Absolutely horrific images and clips from Ukraine, all thoughts are with the many innocent people who will lose their lives because of a backwards, egotistical nutter.

While it won’t result in direct loss of lives in the same way, don’t underestimate the importance of the cyber warfare that will be going on. Russia are strong in the cyber game and will have numerous APT’s attempting to attack key industries across the West. Ukrainian banking and key government areas, along with critical infrastructure will be being absolutely battered as we speak.

If tensions keep rising they will go for multinational FI’s at some point, and that’s when we might start seeing consequences in the UK.

It will also lead to amateur or less sophisticated hacking groups acting under the guise of Russian hackers attempting to take advantage of the situation and go on the offensive. Expect to see a massive increase in phishing attempts into your workplace/personal accounts.

The latest information from Ukraine's military is that they are now three miles away.

Footage posted online by Ukrainian citizens appear to show Russian tanks driving through Obolon, about 5.5 miles north of Kyiv's city centre.

Now, The Associated Press is reporting gunfire near the capital's government quarters.

Ukraine's presidential adviser has said Russia is planning to capture Kyiv and kill Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Let's hope there are enough liberal people in Russia to demonstrate against Putin and pressurise him. There are plenty of Putins own commanders in Kremlin who are questioning this invasion. Ukraine president is appealing to Russian people and this is a sensible tactic to pursue.
I feel for all those people and soldiers caught up in this assault on democracy. Trump and Boriski/Tory's have been weak over last 5-10 years - motivated purely by financial gain.

Its ok, Ive just transferred my cash to a Nigerian bank that emailed earlier…said they’d keep it extra safe and paying 20% interest 👍

Joking apart I think you’re spot on GE. I reckon this will be Putins main tool responding to the West for sanctions being implemented. That and control over gas but I guess that would hurt them equally

Disgusting.
If that actually happens, then what?

Why is it good? Both army's are innocent just doing crazy people's bidding, can't exactly say no to Putin can you? End up in a execution line.
Try telling that to those Ukrainians who have been living peaceful lives and are now taking to arms against Russian invaders. You think Russian soldiers are just as "innocent" as Ukrainian ? I think you'll find the Ukrainians are reactive rather that anything else.
I understand what you are saying but as far as I'm concerned I'll be content with any
Russian aircraft shot down and Russian soldier lost.
I have no sympathy for German soldiers who were killed in WW2 . They had no choice either.

Russian ‘operatives’ now in Kiev and a call for residents to make Molotov cocktails and engage in, essentially, guerrilla warfare.

Utter madness.
I think guerilla warfare is what this will descend into in the long term. Molotov cocktails and pea shooters won't achieve anything. The Ukrainians need help with arms. I doubt the ordinary citizen can get hold of much flammable materials unless they've got some white spirit in their shed

Wouldn’t mind betting this emboldens China to have a pop at Taiwan. Twin Axis of Evil.
My thoughts exactly although they played the long diplomatic game with Hong Kong and have won. I think the chinese are wise these days to know their place at the top table is secure

Let’s hope they do some good. Most groups won’t be shouting about it the fact they are attempting to hack Russia.

You joke and it’s so unbelievable, yet , you’d be surprised (and saddened) by how many people fall for this stuff!

If China and NK decide to up the cyber games then the world is in trouble tbh. The UK is very good, but when big Nation States start hacking you need to be at your absolute best. Only takes one idiot to click a link or one third/fourth/fifth party in the supply chain to be hacked and it’s game over.

So it seems the plan is apparently to surround Kiev, seize an airport nearby and then send in thousands of paratroopers to take government buildings and to find Zelensky.

Grim.

Install a puppet govt and delay "free" elections. follow the Russian model of arresting prominent politicians that are an electoral threat to Russia's choices for new leadership. Russian troops "monitoring" polling stations. Claim it is a legitimate Govt as elected by the people.

I feared that the actions wouldn't match the rhetoric. Sadly, once again it seems I was right.

This was posted earlier SBD. I honestly think (and hope !) this is because Ukraine is stopping all men between 18-60 leaving the country so would directly go against their wishes

This is pretty standard for UK Govt. Been slow ever since Brexit in processing visas/residency etc for those married to UK citizens. If you're in a long-term relationship but officially married good luck. Also been exacerbated in many countries for past 2 years as consular activities been streamlined / restricted under the guise of COVID restrictions.
There are Brits who remained in Ukraine because they couldn't get visas in time for their Ukranian wives/partners and children. I know several who have stayed because they wouldn't leave their families behind.

This is from a media outlet that was asking Cardi B what her thoughts on the conflict were, and cannot successfully publish newspapers anymore. I'm really not sure why people quote The Independent as it is a disgusting media outlet as bad as the mail on the other side.

It is a click bait headline just trying to wind people up. Of course the government is not going to issue visas in Ukraine, the staff have been pulled out and rightly so. I highly doubt we will close the door to people fleeing the country if they want to come here.

The guy posting it is a anti brexit obsessed crank and he’s just posting off the government visa requirements before the crises

As you say there’s also tbe small matter men aren’t allowed to leave

You keep saying “bit of a nightmare” - I hate to tell you but this is a football forum which has morons regarding politics who disagree with me like UKIP Tony, David “special brew” O day, the ever so earnest and ever so stupid PVA, the utter hopeless child who pretends he’s a teacher Ian and others who literally have the gravitas of losers in the first round of a 6th form debating society

The politics aspect of this forum misjudges the wider view of the country every single time. It’s just a bunch of sad bitter losers who well at election time just lose

Keep carry on losing

If it was a debating society, even a sixth form one, you would at least be obliged to stick to the point.

With apologies, I don't think you're quite as good at this debating lark as you think you are - being endlessly contrarian and needlessly rude isn't going to help you win many arguments.

My whole point is there isn’t any arguments that are going to be won on this forum politically as it’s full of people whose views are not representative of the wider public and most who have a view of said wider public have been shouted down and left the debate a long time ago

As for being rude you were engaging pleasantly with O day an Ira worshiping freak whose the most insulting person on the whole forum

Be much better for him to have an embarrassing death, such as died on the toilet whilst constipated, or from multiple paper cuts.
Any way that works mate. The bloke has gone off his rocker. He's taking them from a country functioning and doing OK to, at best, one of isolation and non prosperity. Surely his inner circle must realise there will be no winners if this keeps up.

Can we sneek your missus in? Seduce him and then poison him? As an ex KGB man he'll probably see the irony of being taken out that way.

She is already there and can't get back. Was booked on an Aeroflot flight this Monday coming, but of course Aeroflot are now banned.

I may see her on the Beeb tonight on the front line, wearing an "I ❤ Vlad" badge though.

At least I will know then that she is safe
