Ukraine signals a shift toward defense as analysts ask whether 'failed counteroffensive' is over
Ukraine signaled it's shifting its military tactics to a more defensive footing after an analysis of Russia's resource capabilities, and as winter arrives.www.cnbc.com
I’m starting to think our guys on the frontline were wrong. It also looks like the infamous counter-offensive is over.
It’s hardly ‘said’ with glee. It’s been the reality of the situation for a while now.Saying that with such obvious glee is a bit weird.
And the headline is clearly very sensationalist and doesn't really reflect what's in the 'article', if you can call it that.
It’s naive to think there wouldn’t be pretty strict conditions attached to any settlement. As will the next 20% until it’s all gone.

It’s naive to think Putin would give a fuckIt’s naive to think there wouldn’t be pretty strict conditions attached to any settlement.
I'm sure Russia will follow those restrictions to the absolute letter.
He would do if the alternative was to ultimately declare war on the USA. There’s next to no chance now of Ukraine getting Russia out of the occupied territories and Crimeia. It’s naive to think Putin would give a fuck
Ukraine was persuaded to give up Crimea in exchange for peace. Lasted 8 yearsHe would do if the alternative was to ultimately declare war on the USA. There’s next to no chance now of Ukraine getting Russia out of the occupied territories and Crimeia.
In the grand scheme of things the much hyped counteroffensive made little progress. It’s a war that neither side is going to win.
No it wasn’t. The fighting didn’t stop.Ukraine was persuaded to give up Crimea in exchange for peace. Lasted 8 years
Weakens the argument for surrendering territory even furtherNo it wasn’t. The fighting didn’t stop.
There’s plenty of evidence that Ukraine is close to cutting off Crimea. Most notably the recent attacks on the Naval base. If Russia can’t resupply its troops there it’s only a matter of time before they capitulate.
Russias military is in disarray. They’re struggling for ammunition, they’re struggling for heavy equipment, they’ve got no modern weapons that are functional for anything past a parade, they’re now trying to recruit from occupied Ukraine. All Russia had was bluff, I think if Putin bought the bluff. He thought he had a modern military, he thought he had the Ukrainian public on side, bought by the influence of a few pro Russian Ukrainian oligarchs and he surrounded himself by yes men who took the money to build a modern army and buy influence in Ukraine who told him what he wanted to hear and not the truth. There is no win for Putin unless the West capitulates and hands him one, which is essentially what you’re suggesting.
When’s the capitulation happening again tony?
It's nearly two years since you said Kyiv was about to capitulate
Not sure what that has to do with my point
Has crimea fallen - is it close?

Neither of them are likely to happen.Well it's just that you were mocking someone over a point/prediction made a couple of months ago for not happening yet.
So presumably your prediction from almost two years ago must have happened by now?
I know which one is closer to happening.
It’s closer than Kyiv. The war is at least on its doorstep. Not sure what that has to do with my point

Sounds very close

Kyiv? Never. Crimea? Before Kyiv. When’s it happening?
See, all you’ve done there is confirm that the front line is on the doorstep of Crimea. Which is exactly what I said. For clarity Kyiv is over 800 kilometres north of that point.Sounds very close

Theres a constant social media war raging lurching one way and the other.this could be a grave error: The US is running away from/ towards a catastrophic error.
Putin is close to victory. Europe should be terrified
With the Ukraine conflict languishing in stalemate, the possibility that Russian president Vladimir Putin might yet emerge victorious from his ill-judged invasion cannot be ignored, with all the implications such an outcome would have for Europe’s security.uk.yahoo.com
The much hyped up counteroffensive achieved very little and it’s likely leaders have realised it’s a war that isn’t going to be won and are shifting towards a settled agreement.
