For starters - What does Putin want from the UAE and Saudi Arabia? | The StrategistWhich Gulf states do you expect to bail Russia out with investment?
Depends who the replacement is as well - things could be worse!Best thing is for him to pass away as a replacement would have some wriggle room to do a deal that might be acceptable/justifiable to both ukraine and Russian people
Visiting 2 countries that aren’t in the ICC to try and get them to fix the barrel price of crude oil is hardly evidence that they’re going to invest heavily in Russia. If anything it’s confirmation that Putin is desperate. You have to remember that as much as these 2 countries have a long standing relationship with Russia they have a much larger one with the west. The UAE and the US are strategic security partners in the Middle East and Gulf States, it even has a permanent military base in the UAE as part of that, it relies heavily on the US for security. Both countries also rely heavily on western armaments. I would be shocked if either would risk that to keep Putin in power. They will after all still have the option of doing trade with Russian whether Putin is there or not.
Plus the obvious massive ramp in military spending at the expense of other areas of govt spendingInterest rate in Russia is up to 16%, inflation up to 8%. Ruble is depreciating. Hopefully (probably wishful thinking) opinion will start to turn on Putin and the war.
It's a bit risky turning against Putin or the war in Russia (see Prigozhin and everyone jailed for criticising the war). I think he'll win the election too. If we're holding out for the overthrow of Putin and the rest of the current regime I think we might be waiting quite a while.Interest rate in Russia is up to 16%, inflation up to 8%. Definitely wins the election and opposition severely handcuffed in terms of party financing, media coverage, key personnel in jail or left the countryIt's a bit risky turning against Putin or the war in Russia (see Prigozhin and everyone jailed for criticising the war). Still not convinced whoever follows him will be a liberal friend of the West, anyway! It's a bit risky turning against Putin or the war in Russia (see Prigozhin and everyone jailed for criticising the war). There's zero chance of him not winning.I think he'll win the election too.
This - if anything they'll be even more hostile. Will keep saying it but I think we're at the start of the balance of global power slowly moving away from the west.Still not convinced whoever follows him will be a liberal friend of the West, anyway!

Oh really? There's zero chance of him not winning.
You never know! There was a post on here a few weeks ago seriously claiming he could end up losing.Oh really?
Must admit I thought it was obvious I was being ironic there.

You do realise that is paradise compared to Gorbachev and when he dallied with Western democracy?

Nobody could possibly be more hostile than Lenin...They can't be any more hostile than Putin
Nobody could possibly be more hostile than Lenin...
And Brezhnev was pretty bad, but Andropov certainly not an improvement! Also didn't result in the withdrawal from their military operations elsewhere.
The leadership successions to Gaddafi, Saddam etc then. Turned out well there.Very different times though!
Sending 300,000 Russians and counting to an early grave for an ego trip sure sounds like paradise

The only possible escalations from what Putin has done are to invade a NATO country and/or launch a nuke.
So they can be more hostile than Putin....but they'll destroy Russia in the process.

Point missed as always
You have no understanding of Russia’s history and it’s culture at all
300,000 dead is quite a big point actually. Maybe not to you.
27 million Russians died in WW2 - Uncle Joe wasnt removed
Like I said, very different times.
Is it a different culture? I have asked what you know about the Russian culture and stoicism - the reality is you know nothing but you carry on and let’s see what happens in the end shall we - perhaps you will repeat the amazing insight that Russia has become Chinas bitch - without realising the irony of such a statement.
My history is a little hazy but wasn’t the point WW2 to remove uncle Adolf not uncle Joe?27 million Russians died in WW2 - Uncle Joe wasnt removed
