I'd like to see Eccles as the 6 with Rudoni and Torp as the two 8s pushing on in front of him

Although having said that Allen is the best player in the team atm as has been said on his thread

Interestingly a lot of the stats based websites had him as our worst player v Blackburn. (e.g. Blackburn Rovers vs Coventry City live score, H2H and lineups | Sofascore). I'm not really sure what to make of that information but there it is.

That’s probably why he signed a new contract to get something for him.
FL probably indicated his thoughts before he was formally announced.

Allen has been a stable member in the midfield that does a lot of hard yards and doing the basic stuff such as simple passes having a 90% completion average per90 and 1.71 tackles per 90 also averages 5 recoveries per 90 which Im assuming is interceptions and duels

I think it's because a lot of the good work Allen does for us is off the ball, and these stats don't recognise that.

Like they don't recognise if someone's positioning is poor, etc.

They're useful, but only up to a point.

I do mostly agree (especially with the first bit ) but haven't been entirely convinced by the balance in MF since Hamer left. Also I don't think the midfield is entirely blameless in either penalty area. They are all under their xG bar Eccles.

Yeah, I did wonder if that's a part of it. Stats also struggle to show how the midfield works as a unit rather than as individuals. Also worth pointing out that although he has been our poorest rated player in the last 2 games they are not terrible scores. It is a result of everyone else on our side scoring much higher than they normally do... which tells its own story.

I think Robins said about him that he understands and follows tactical instructions very well

Really surprising as you'd think his style would yield good stats regardless of subjective perceived performance!

No xRunningAboutALot stat

He doesn’t tend to dribble tackle head or play progressive balls. He’s very good at making himself available and making quick short passes but that doesn’t get you much.

Petty point scoring....

That's a joke before all hell breaks loose!

And yeah I've always liked torp and I'm very impressed with how he is now getting involved with the battling aspect of championship football on top of his technical game

That's fair - just would've though high pass completion and number and stats similar to that

Also thought he won the ball back quite a few times last time out!

Apart from making your midfield unit more cohesive.

Which is quite a lot, and so why I only think these kind of stats are only useful up to a point.

Looking like he's really stepping up.

You always knew he could hit a ball, but he's looking all round and much more complete player. Confidence prime as well.

Course it’s just the confidence and most of all the tackles he’s putting in.

Fitness looks brilliant as well for all the comments people made about it

He's definitely good enough. That finish on his weak foot. I couldn't see what we needed to change today, we were the better team but somehow ended up 2-0 down. Torp comes on scores a wonderful goal and we win 3-2. Coincidence?

Just wanted to highlight what I said in October, the lads brilliant and just needed a run of games to get used to the league.

Poor mistakes at the back and awful misses at the other end.

Hands up the nobheads who wanted Jamie Allen moved on. He had two major injuries last season and struggled with fitness. Everything on here is so short term.
Written off a few years ago then came back brilliantly.
So many posters saying we need experience and leadership in midfield. Hello, Jamie Allen.

Best striker of the ball at the club.

Seen that free kick in many warm ups.

Short term fix. Not knocking him as he's been excellent recently in a 3-5-2.

But that's not the formation Frank wants us to play when everyone's fit.

When we go back to using wingers, Allen will drop down to the bench. In favour of Sheaf and Torp/Eccles.

We keep Allen in the squad specifically for times like this, when we need a plan B.
