He'd be better off establishing himself as a league 1 first teamer. Too many jump to "big" clubs at a young age never to be heard of again because they don't play regular competitive football. Look at Bigirimana.

Depends on what they do with him. If they sent him out on loan for a season or two then it'd be a good move.

Bound to get all sorts of rumours re. Madison, who lets be honest hasn't "made" it yet. But if that was true 5mill + 20% sell on, a loan back for 12 months and 75% of the fee to the manager for team building I'd snap their fuckin' hands off.

Look Maddison either stays with us and develops or he goes and gets forgotten within 12 months.
He needs to check the careers of Davenport and Barton to mention two of thousands!!

While I agree with you I don't think it's as simple as that, it's a mistake to assume that those who jump to big clubs and don't succeed made the wrong choice, some of them did I'm sure but if they wouldn't have succeeded even with another year or two under their belts (which is quite probably the majority of youngsters signed by premiership clubs) then in many cases even those who appear to have failed made the right choice simply for financial reasons. If they had stayed for another year or two and gone off the boil or their potential doesn't materialise then they never will get the shot at the premiership club nore the money that they would have received. It's also the case that the presumably the quality of training, coaching, equipment, medical and physio care, nutritionist's (and probably even psychologists) and the quality of those you are training with is far higher at the premiership club which should all help significantly with development.

In pure footballing teams I think he should stay with us another year but if he is on something like 1.5k a week here but could get 15k on a 5 year deal then that is your financial future secured for the rest of your life if you are sensible (not that I expect young footballers are) and honestly you'd have to be exceptionally confident in your ability and that you are as good as people think you might be in order to turn it down.

I doubt Bigiamara is too worried about being forgotten - he has his bank balance to console him.

The fact is if a premier club really wants him he's gone for whatever we can get for him. Even that ultimately we have little control over unless several clubs start bidding.

A bit harsh mate. Maybe first and foremost he's serious about making a living out of what is a perilous career. Like all footballers, he's one bad injury away from having to earn a living elsewhere.

Staying with us for another season doesn't guarantee him success any more than does moving away - but if he moves for a lot more money then at least he won't have that to worry about.

I'd like him to stay, but the truth is that if there's a decent offer from a championship or premiership club then I wouldn't begrudge him taking it. A couple of years at those sort of salaries and he's set for life - if he doesn't make it there's still the option to make a career at a lower level, given his age.

I don't know where this 5 million figure has come from? We'll be lucky to get 1m for him atm. He's not had a full season yet in league 1, only a handful of appearances mostly from the bench. Callum Wilson who had a full season and was the top scorer in league went for 2m so this 5m figure is just fantasy and will never ever happen based on just 'potential'.

Keep the lad, he's still got 3 more years left in his contract and let him develop here and then maybe in a year or 2 if big clubs come knocking we may be able to get 2m+ if he has done well in that time and starting to show his potential.

I don't think that figure has come from anywhere, I think it's just the OP giving his opinion on what he should be sold for if he were to go, I think others have assumed that the 5m was then the rumour. I agree with you though no way he goes for 5mill at this point in time, not even close.

no it is not harsh, not anymore harsh than the "perilous career". I think the best way to develop his career is to get real time playing time, his best chance of that is with Coventry City. If he wants to take the money as soon as he can, good luck to him. But I won't morn his departure. Davenport really could have had a career if he had stayed at Coventry another season or two...but he didn't listen to more than one persons advice and that is unfortunate.

it depends if Maddison wants to be potentially, and he does only have potential, be a big player here. Or go for the money at a wealthier club as one of many squad players who have far more game time experience.

i accept it is his career not mine.

But can you honestly point to a single player who has benefitted from staying with us for a season or two when they had the chance to move?

the only reason i put 5m - as imho , any less we should hold on to him now - as he could be worth a lot more than that to us - by helping us to the championship, and then selling him on for a higher fee potentially

then again - he could have peaked altogether - who knows - but i wouldnt give him away as we did with callum wilson

Wallace, Babb, Gillespie, Paddon, Mortimer, Holmes, Thomas, Thompson, Blockley, Sealey just off the top of my head and then we can start looking at players careers at other clubs.....

Raheem Sterling's new contract, wherever he goes, will probably see him earning more in a month than these guys did in their careers

We would get a max 1.5m at a absolute push, so no point in selling to ANYONE who makes a call/bid

Didn't Wilson get injured on New Years Day and was out for 3 months though? He might have gone had he not got injured, no club would sign a player who was out until march. They would much rather wait until the summer and also look at how he recovered from the injury.
