Waghorn to Derby (3 Viewers)

Waghorn, Kane and Walker are on very decent contracts and will have no problem sitting on them. I don't blame them or think they are running screaming to the exit door due to it. If clubs do ask about them on loan the deal to get them out will be very hard to make it worth while for us. If perm the wage they are on will be hard for them to get it matched.

Very frustrating as we stand still, but nothing we can do just hope something happens that sees money released to strengthen.

Indeed. I'd imagine the 'hitting the right number' line is regarding what the club deems to be fair in terms of loan split.

And we are well known in the game for expecting other clubs to cover the significant bulk of the cost, not saying that is wrong but it has definitely scuppered some deals in the past.

Not sure how our recruitment can be criticised since we were relegated to what in reality is division 4 we have improved year on year, to be let’s say fingers crossed dark horses to be in the top end of the championship, there are always signings that don’t come off Kasteneer and Hillsner being the most talked about and in fairness to Hillsner he had that lung condition which basically buggered him up before he started. There have been some spectacular successes, Mark McNulty 28 goals, a win at Wembley, a promotion & one and a half million quid all in a year or two, Hamer, O’Hare & Gyorkeres all picked up for a total around £2mill now worth around 3/4 times that each ffs! Another gem Sam McCallum signed from non league Herne Bay and within 18 months sold to at the time Premiership club Norwich for a couple of million or so and we operate in a strange market due to our owner too let’s not forget that.

It's not really that dumb though is it...

It's just my take...

To clarify there is a difference between recruitment (budget, financing, selling players on, etc) and scouting (finding and identifying talent), so fair enough when you allude to the former but in terms of scouting:

Clarke-Salter - Chelsea link (Adi)
Dabo (Adi)
Maatsen (was already in league 1 season before and Chelsea link again)
Godden (top goalscorer in league 1 season before)
Matty James (PL winner)
McFadz (season pro)
Moore (was first choice at Sheff Utd before their promotion)

I agree others like Rose were great find, my point is so much seems to be network through Adi and proven players and less from scouting team, most of which have been misses.

Agree though, they're done well to manage budget and work within constraints.

I get it. So you're saying the good ones were because they were known and the 'bad ones' were because they weren't known? Hmmm. That doesn't really hold true does it. Since Premier League clubs are mainly buying 'known' players for millions some still turn out to be stinkers. A scouting team will know contract status, bonus status, will profile whether someone can fit into a style of play, do background checks, understand their family dynamic etc etc. The main barometer for measuring success is: are we in a better situation squad wise than 5 years ago. Yes. Is that solely because Adi has brought his mates in. No. Is that because recruitment, scouting and management are working in unison together. Yes. Will there be mistakes. Yes.

Why do you think that it's all down to Viveash? It's a very lazy link indeed

We’ve never really cracked loans I don’t think, certainly from an outgoing perspective. Can’t remember many of our youth team products having successful loan spells.

To be fair that's probably because the decent ones in recent years have always been accelerated to the first team.

MW could well turn out to be a useful player for us, we don't just give him away for a kid who can't hack it. Our squad is dangerously thin already, as we saw on Wednesday night and he looked useful from set pieces immediately...

Where do people find out how much individual players are paid ? Is this common knowledge somewhere or a lot of speculation?

Walker we would want a fee, which is understandable and doable.

Wagjorn we just want someone to take a percentage of his wage, now, that will be a tough one.

Kane we just want out .

I am generally very positive of the club's recruitment but I did not like that transfer from the start.

I guess we were desperate, but still.

I’m unsure we want a fee for Walker and that has stopped him going

Big point is the wages they are on and getting clubs to take these on

Tbh I thought it was a reasonable deal based on what we knew then
I don't know did we really need to pay Kane big bucks if he had basically ruined his chances at QPR and realistically barring injuries it would be hard to see robins dropping Dabo unless he puts him at centre back. Least he only has a year left on his contract

He's unlikely to be on a big contract after being persona non-grata at QPR

Which makes it even more baffling that our only real senior permanent signing this summer is someone on high wages that has been on an overall level, disappointing for the last 6 seasons. Who we then offer a three year deal to.

It's obvious that from a financial point of view (further validation from the Robins interview today) that we need to be extremely astute. Then we go and do some really silly things like that. It also means we can't move players on (despite how amazing Waghorn allegedly played against Bristol City) that really have a suspect future at the club.

I think he's right, it might be a difficult season, but there's some pretty obvious things we could have played better.
