Wasps downward spiral... (6 Viewers)

Agree there are clubs on rocky ground financially but really don’t think the game will disappear. It’s not the first time Wasps have been in the 2nd tier of Europe, it wil probably do some good for a season. It’s not the disaster that you guys talk it as.

Everything is built on sand - the much heralded on here JLR sponsorship deal was cheaper to JLR than any of the football club deals. It was hilarious.

Said it before but rugby fans would be well served looking at CVCs role in other sports and the state they've been left in. They've come in, taken what they can, and then walked away.

The thing I find strange is professional rugby is a relatively new thing. They had the chance to start with a blank slate and create a sustainable successful league but instead seem determined to run it into the ground.

It's not got the appeal and money that football has though which I think they thought was going to happen when they moved to Coventry, it seems to be getting less popular

It never has had the following of football and never will and I don’t think anyone thought Wasps moving to Cov would change that.

Don’t disagree about CVC but rugby is more than just the English premiership

Explain ? Instead of simply posting insults. Why am I misguided ? Your have no idea what interaction I have with Coventry Rugby.
Implying that Cov Rugby and their fans were in favour of Wasps relocation to Coventry. You couldn’t be further off the mark. But you’re clearly just here on the troll, don’t you have friends and family you can go and annoy instead?

weren’t welcome by who ? ….. A few vocal CCFC supporters on a forum pissed off because Wasps moved into the Ricoh…. Hardly representative of the Coventry population.

As for Wasps being despised in the Rugby community like MK Dons. ….. I’d love to see where anyone sees that.

No, i mean you get 4k a week at a push, you've been welcomed with open arms clearly

Daniel Gidney quoted that Wasps playing in Coventry with big crowds was what the Ricoh was made for, Coventry Council wanted the city to be a rugby city and do away with the football, truth is we're not a city of rugby but a city of Coventry City football fans going by the play off win attendance and homecoming on the Monday night, something no rugby club could achieve

The local area? Well they’ve displaced the local football team, took advantage of a situation they had no business being involved with. Flooded the local schools with free tickets - taking away from the local rugby team.

reneged on a promise to regenerate the north east.

no they don’t have to support Coventry rugby, but I’m sure there’s Birmingham rugby teams they can support, or other local midlands teams like Leicester or Northampton.

wasps are worse than MK Dons, at least they went to a town with no football team
Displaced local sporting teams from Henley in Arden aswell including disabled sports clubs..
I wonder how many of the world's top players are queuing up to join Wasps now the training ground is up and running as Lawrence Dallaglio claimed.

The training ground has been a shambles from day one. the promise was a new state of the art facility to benefit the people of Coventry. Then they tried to get us booted out of Higgs so they could have that. Then promised Old Leamingtonians they were going to move there which led to them evicting existing tenants to make way for Wasps. Finally they go to Henley, takeover a community facility, and remove it from public use leaving the town with zero facilities all with massive opposition for the locals.

Still they promised the locals some free tickets.

As I said …. That’s not my general experience….. clearly you disagree and you find it annoying that I don’t agree with you …… doesn’t make a troll !

Ah ok …. blimey …. You dragged that one out of the archives.
And this is why the past is important. Knowledge of how we got here will help you understand the feeling of Coventry football and rugby fans.

Also, I'm pretty sure those parties who are apparently going to be financing the bond repayment will be very interested in the last few years history of massive losses.

I've no problems you being on this board to discuss things.

im glad I’m in your good books then… I’ve followed Wasps since they were amateur ! …… why shouldn’t someone from the Midlands who enjoys rugby be able to go and watch Wasps .. what’s the big deal ?
Only 2 Wasps 'fans' I know both live in Kent and only go io a match when they get free tickets as they both work for the NHS ! Both hate the fact Wasps have moved to Cov.

I get the history aspect and the past, but that works both ways, many on this forum are completely dismissive of what led up to Wasps leaving Adams Park or anything relating to Wasps unless it fits a certain agenda.

I know plenty of Wasps supporters who no longer attend due to the move, that isn’t in doubt. It also has nothing to do with the post you quoted.

How about the fact that wasps kicked out people in Henley to build a new training ground, that's not digging anything up from the archives, just more shitty behaviour

Interesting read thanks. …… so where does the fault lie ….. with the buyer or seller ? This also goes to perhaps show that local press isn’t always pro wasps !

have the previous users been relocated ? …. Can’t find much complaining since 2019 ….. perhaps they are now happy with other facilities nearby …. That’s a genuine question… I don’t know.

Not much else they can do now since it went through and the facilities have been built. Wasps also tried to buy and kick the football club and it's academy out of the higgs centre but then couldn't afford it 😂

Adds to the nomadic nature I guess that the training ground is miles away from Coventry

nothing Unusual about training grounds not being near where a team plays …… happens in football a lot.

Well of course what they had always said they would do is build one in Coventry as part of the regeneration and Job creation plans as well as kicking the football club out of course

Talking of free tickets ….. wasn’t really hard to find this online ….. I didn’t really look much further .

Just about every sporting club will give free tickets away in the community it’s not unique to Wasps.

I will bite. We have a long standing relationship with local schools. Skyblues in the community do a lot of things like summer camps, school visits and so on.

Giving tickets back to the community is different than wasps strategy of giving anyone and everyone a ticket.

The comments under that post is parents who are realy excited and grateful for the tickets.

On the flip side its not a good look when you could go in to a Bank in Northampton and get free tickets to a Rugby match in coventry.

Ouch "My amateur club is affiliated with Wasps and we get 30 free tickets. Even then, only about 3 or 4 get used." comments on this reddit post
