Wasps downward spiral... (6 Viewers)

I do. Yeah it's shit for the actual proper fans but it is what it is.

A lot of fans of rival clubs wouldn’t be too gutted to see them fail, lot of ill feeling about their move and the way they’ve operated.
Their now moving towards the Saracens level of trying to cheat the system

So, ignoring the 7.5m as we don’t know what that is how does that add up to £15m. I get that a very small minority of CCFC fans want Wasps to fail. But made up figures, blasé assumptions and rumour won’t do it.

Small 😂 , he's very optimistic

I’ve long said this would eventually be the outcome, from things I’ve heard and from a knowledge of the game.
It was always going to go one way, and I’m glad it is.

One thing that I’m interested to see regarding this is the views of other top flight rugby clubs. Surely they won’t want to see a rival propped up with millions of state aid whilst they live within their means. I would hope a formal objection/complaint would be raised and that action would be taken against Wasps by the other clubs.
Agree, but, I doubt that other clubs fully know all that has gone on, and don't know what the 13m is for... and if for "Arena costs" (which we know it won't be used for!) won't/may not seem an issue to them.
If, for example, Leicester asked for a public grant to build a new roof on a stand- I doubt (possibly) anyone from other clubs would care....
It's the fact we have an idea how it is likely to be used, and know about all the other 10s of millions they have been gifted for free. Bet other clubs don't fully know this???????? Could be wrong???
What do you think?.. your Rugby knowledge looks far better than mine!

I know a director of rugby from a club in CRFC league - well knew him - pre Covid he said they are a bunch of crooks and no one knows where their money comes from

Would they kick up a stink about it though G? Seemingly not? So they keep ploughing on!
We do know where their money comes from!!

Like Grendel said, I’ve heard all is not done transparently.

Now if Wasps need to pay money themselves to upgrade/renovate a ground they chose to move to to become the biggest Rugby team in England, and could cut their playing budget and other areas to pay for this, but don’t and receive state aid instead, I can see other clubs not being particularly pleased if Wasps turn out an expensive playing squad next year.

Saracens we’re caught cheating, Wasps can be too.
I can imagine other clubs will be watching this with interest…..perhaps Ealing who missed out on promotion as their ground wasn’t up to standard, maybe millions in state aid would have helped.

Going to be interesting to see how the CT investigate (or spin) this story.
They’ll probably throw in CCFC leaving, Covid and Previous court battles have weakened an otherwise strong business plan.

Then go on to blame SISU even more, by referring to the club receiving public funds a few years back rehashing that 14m loan article ( but not correcting that the club has nothing to do with it)

then a 5 ways wasps should benefit over public services

I want Wasps to fail and I don't remember speaking to a CCFC fan that has anything but animosity towards them.

They had to stop putting posters advertising their games up in the arena because our fans tore them down during our games. Doesn't sound like a nonplussed set of folk.

I also don't get the line that we should be sorry for their long serving fans. They have either supported a franchising move, which is completely against sporting tradition in this country or they have moved on. I know a lot of former wasps fans that go to Bath, Bristol or Irish now as they won't travel to Coventry.

The argument that some of their Midlands based fans say about supporting them for years and having them move here so "what would you do" is bollocks too. If CCFC moved permanently to Ashton Gate they'd be dead in my eyes.

They're a morally bankrupt cesspit and the sooner the stain of their actions is removed from our sporting landscape the better.

Andy Turner is pushing about CCFC owning half the stadium....

Next it will be demanding CCFC give Wasps some money and take on the debt or something.

Wondering if the sources of new finance for Wasps bond have figured it's going to cost around 13 million to repair/renovate the Arena to bring it up to a realistic value that actually is enough to serve as a guarantee for the value of the bond.

In my personal opinion , wasps will get the money somehow. And all our wet dreams will die for a couple more years

I think they'll get the funds too but it will be kicking the can down the road or giving up the golden goose.

Look back on the previous 136 pages here though and you'll see everybody saying that when the bond was due was when the problems would start.

It seems to be only Wasps' ownership, management and fans along with the local media that didn't notice anything was up.

I laugh but it's true
I honestly can't see how going to the combined authority will get them the money. It's not just Coventry it affects after all, and Andy Street isn't in by much of a majority. Plus it opens it up to Birmingham wanting a load of cash, and who knows who else is out there who'd be keen for some stadium renovations.

Wasps moving to Coventry may have been controversial for us, but brought apathy among the electorate. I couldn't see it being the same wider than just Coventry at a time when budgets are screwed, although I appreciate it probably comes out of a different pot. The only saving grace they have is there's not another top flight club in the combined authority, but not sure Birmingham would want to play second fiddle to Coventry in that respect all their life.

(Watch them be given £26million now, just to be sure they have enough!)

Yeah I speculated the same yesterday

Given it’s a money pit - do we actually want half of it?
Have to say it seems to be all or nothing really, doesn't it. And less debt to service to pay it down.

That being said, new football grounds are a nightmare every time. Even new stands (Wolves!) did for clubs, but Leicester, Southampton etc have all been shafted temporarily by moving. Arsenal rose it out thanks to Wenger being cautious, but have gone from league winners to also rans. It's only clubs like Middlesbrough with a chairman who's prepared to underwrite it who seem to do OK really, if you try and finance it on cold hearted commercial terms, you're shafted!

Along as it enables us to keep all of what we make on matchdays .. and make half of everything else apart from wasps matchdays where ofcourse naturally they lose money 😄

I'd be interested to see how it would all work

In that respect, it's interesting that the reporting has decided to include that the bond was to pay Richardson his £10million loan back. Almost like waving in front of them all that effectively, any grant would be doing this for him too.

This is full blown insanity

Professional sports clubs don not exist in the real fiscal world - yes the do, of course they do

You are not Man Utd, they have a load of debt, they also generate more money than any other team outside of the US (I think), they are not losing money

Strange that you seem to be the only club applying for those funds, it's almost as if it should be a concern. It isn't your owners being full on geniuses applying for a grant that nobody else had thought of.

Honestly get the nurse.

Man United are worth more than their debt , are wasps worth more than their debt of 54 million? Not sure they are anywhere close to that
