We should start planning a Phoenix club... (1 Viewer)

Some thoughts about 'Coventry Phoenix FC':

- ACL should lock SISU's CCFC out of the Ricoh and call their bluff.

- Agree to sell the Higgs 50% to Haskell's consortium.

- Haskell injects considerable finance to set up Coventry Phoenix, who will start their journey in one of the bottom leagues.

- Pheonix will use the Ricoh, with rents structured to rise as the club progresses up the league structure.

- Seems like a few people on here are already thinking laterally about supporting a phoenix club - I for one will give absolutely no support or money to CCFC while SISU are in control - however a phoenix club could be a rollercoaster of a ride!

- It looks like CCFC under SISU would be absolutely unsustainable. There would be minimal revenue from ticket sales, merchandise sales, sponsorship etc, and liquidation within 12 months.

Pie in the sky? Perhaps.

But desperate days (and owners) call for brave decisions.

I'm in as long as we play in sky blue and are nicknamed the sky blues.

Stop being a baby. Nothing to do with being a "super fan".

I already said in their survey that if they move then I probably wouldn't travel. If they stay at the Ricoh then I will support CCFC as I always done. Respect my decision and I shall respect yours.

You carry on been super fan then. SISU will thrive on you financing there plan of wrecking this club. Because that's what you'll be doing by giving them your money. If the past 2 days hasn't made you realise what awful owners we have then nothing ever will.

People are suggesting that a new club be started regardless of what SISU's plans are on that front.

Put is this way, if PH4 et al announced tomorrow that they were starting a new club and applying to play in the BS next season and that a deal had been done for the new club to play at the Ricoh - then I think a lot (most) of the fans would follow. What could SISU possibly do in those circumstances? Nothing, and the 'club' that they own would essentially become homeless, supporterless and worthless. In time the new club would come to be known as CCFC and would assume the history of the old club and would probably buy back the name further down the line (I think Newport did that).

I doubt this would happen because not enough time to get ready for next season, but it could work in theory.

Desperate times...

Well said, Ferret. Pretty much agree with all that.

That's the thing. You didn't respect my views. Saying and I quote 'luckily we have all different' basically saying my views are silly. Your good at this Internet lark with your wording but stop preaching the holier than thou stance. Doesn't make you any better of a fan.

I read somewhere we would drop 2 leagues if we got liquidated and start a fresh. Like Nuneaton and Chester. Change name. I'd happy take that at the min because way things are going will end up in the blue square in 2 years

That would mean Conference Premier, but their finance rules are a little different and we would have to show financial stability through audited accounts. Also we would have to be out of Admin / CVA or they would drop us to Blue Square North.

Not sure why you're obsessed with "better fan" and "super fan". Why? I'm not saying your views are silly, I'm saying they are different to mine. Get over it.

Strangely I find myself so fecked off with SISU that I'd probably go and watch a PH4 team (how does Coventry Eagles or Elephants* sound?) at the Ricoh whatever league they were in. I suspect the lease may be a sticking point, but if SISU sadly do get control of Ltd back then ACL could always say the lease has been broken by lack of rental payments. They could offer the same rent deal to Phoenix FC as they did to SISU in the final negotiations.

*I picked them because they're on our crest, didn't choose the Phoenix because there is already a womens Ice Hockey team. I admit Eagles does have a Crystal Palace ring to it though.

For argument's sake, I will say that I would be one of those people who would go and see us play Barwell or whoever on a windy tuesday. As much as I hate this situation, the thought of the club being released from SISU's hands actually makes me excited, and optimistic. I doubt that it will ever come to a breakaway club, but it's nice to have a plan B!

Oh, and by the way, I think that really we all are "super fans" as we have actually stuck with this for so long!!

If sisu are still in control next season then I won't be going anyway.

A new club would give me somewhere to go on a Saturday afternoon at least.

I bet if this happened, as soon as the real CCFC started winning a few games, and maybe got into the playoffs, everyone would flock back. (assuming it was in the position to carry on functioning)

I'd probably go to both though I reckon.

If they couldn't finish in the top 6 in any season for the last 40 years, what makes you think it could happen now?

I seeded this idea in a couple of other threads, over the last two days, so it is pleasing to see that it now has a thread of its own.

There have been some positive responses to the thought.

The way that it looks to me, now, is that Sisu will do whatever they can to hold onto the 'club' , for the following reasons:-

They have not lost any money until they walk away from their investment.
Without massive investment, the footballing side is not going to become successful, nor turn a profit for the owners
The ownership of the club is the 'Trojan horse' that facilitates gaining ownership of the Ricoh, by means that are foul or fair.

Hence, they don't give a stuff about which league we are in, where we play, or the fans.

And that is their Achilles heel......underestimating the feelings of the fans.

When they take the club out of Coventry, the question becomes....'what IS the football 'club'? What represents it?

Is it the fans, the players, the location of the changing rooms, the name, or what? It is quite difficult to define , precisely, what IS the entity, that we refer to as 'our' club. The more you think about it, it is something quite 'virtual' or spiritual.

So, a new club, founded in Coventry, with Coventry in its name, playing at the Ricoh, to represent our City , that becomes 'the club'.

With ph4 funding the team, we could start in the lower leagues, with modest investment, and enjoy the excitement of seeing our club rise and grow, successfully. I think we would get good crowds, very rapidly, and many would take out season tickets from day 1.

Sisu would be left with a dead duck, fan less and spiritless, with only a name to sell....and eventually we could buy this back on our terms

Play up blue skies?

Can't really see PH4 doing that. Our already meagre crowds would be split. the PC would be playing at - I presume - a fairly low level and crowds would hardly flock to an almost empty Ricoh. His investment would go down the tubes, surely? He needs Coventry City in the Ricoh not some half-baked made up team.

Good idea...but who's going to pay for it?

How much money do you think is required to start at the bottom of the non league pyramid? Not as much as you think I would guess. The club would have to be run on a financially prudent basis from day one. As I have said in previous posts at least 50% of the club should stay in the fans hands (ie a supporters trust) at all times allowing room for some investment but protecting us from a future SISU situation. Kind of like the German club setup.

Absolutely nothing.

Also, "They"?

Wow, the love really has gone.

The `they` was completely subliminal. Your right, without realising it I'm starting to not think of Ccfc as my club anymore.

What about a bottom of the non-league pyramid club in a 32K all seater stadium? A bit more pricey, I would have thought.

It's fantasy.

The biggest problem with something like this is the organisation of it.

Its getting the message out there that the new club is the successor, and then setting up the whole club.

Get it featured in the CET to begin with, and then maybe get someone on the CWR brekkie show to talk about it, for starters.

Oh and the support of the Trust would be good too - emails to all the members.

I have no idea but to even get to a level most of us have heard of will require people with a fair amount of dosh. Suppose we have 20 players each on £250/week. Playing staff alone would cost £250k per year, excluding backroom staff and non footballing staff. There then comes into it finding somewhere to play, train, and a youth setup.

It's not affordable without someone with deep pockets.

Haskell to buy Nuneaton Borough who are in financial difficulties. Rebrand as club name eg Coventry Borough (like Rushden and Diamonds). Buy 1/2 Ricoh and start much higher up the league.

We'd need a sponsor to help cover costs - maybe a business who SISU have fecked off. Get a documentary made about it and tell them (the sponsor) they'll get lots of screen time.

Who's going to lend much sponsorship to what will initially resemble a pub team?

i guess the question is,how many of us would turn up on a cold december night to watch coventry v barwell town
Also, how much would we be prepared to pay for the privilige

Nuneaton town as a guide got around 700 at that level at around £10 a game
on that reckoning, we may get 2000

Either way , even if we could get in any sponsorship etc, your total revenue would be around £1m per year
I think you may get to the conference, but to get into the league is a big step from there

Decent side, Barwell. Although their kits does look a bit like KP crisps cheese & onion flavour used to in the 80's..

But it's not Coventry City and it's not Nuneaton, so why would fans of either side want to watch? How many times have we seen on here that people won't watch City if they moved away? You're moving a totally unrelated team into the City. What's the difference between that and what SISU want to do?
