Don’t live near Cov so I go to more away games than home. When it’s not a sell out, can genuinely say I’ve never had a problem in a group of 4 or 5. Tbf, often cut it fine to get in (not a fan of pre-match) but always found space somewhere. If anyone asked me to move, I’d move but the question has never come. Obvs very different when it’s a sell out.

Only time I’ve had a problem was with my lad at the CBS and some pissed up joker with his teenage daughter told me that he ‘always sat there’. Got him moved. She didn’t say anything but you could see the girl was mortified by how much of a prick her old man was being about it.

Better stewarding, pushing back coach times etc. There's quite a few things that could be tried if it is that much of an issue.
I'd imagine the people going on the official club coaches aren't the ones getting leathered and you can't tell unofficial coaches when they can and can't leave and it would be nigh on impossible to control how much people drink before, during and after the game

Agreed that drug taking is an issue tho, it's been rrife since lockdown was lifted

There are plenty of people who can handle their drink, know their limits and can both enjoy a few pints before an away game and behave decently once they're there. The issue is with the noisy minority who set out to get completely leathered, snort a couple of lines and look for trouble from the jump.

I am not convinced more policing of fans will solve more problems than it causes, but it also feels inevitable if this keeps getting worse.

Standing is a separate issue. What solution are you proposing? At any away game 80-90%+ of us will be standing, do you think everyone should sit? It's a hard one. But again, a separate issue from swapping seats.
In the sense that the attitude seems to be a really selfish one with regard to both sitting in an allocated seat and standing ( even if it means others can’t see), I think it’s the same issue. You say ‘if you don’t like it don’t go’. How about having a bit of sympathy and empathy for those who both think differently to you but are also not as physically robust as presumably you are.
It’s not too difficult to see a situation where someone who can’t stand has selected front row seats (if you buy in person from the ticket office, I think you can do this) only to find someone else standing in their place.
The other isssue that this causes is people standing in the gsngways. Where I was at Stoke, the gangway was as packed as the seating area. How will that pan out in the case of an emergency? Imagine the panic if there was a fire at the back of that stand. It just requires people to have a bit more respect and consideration and sit in the seat they were given.
What’s your solution to the standing issue? How can we have a situation where frail and elderly City fans can still watch their club away ( something they will probably have been doing for decades in the case of older people). It’s not having seating and safe standing areas as people still stand in the seated area. It’s not even terracing and seated areas as shown by the game at Burton a few years ago (not our ‘home’ cup game there but s league fixture) when despite having the away terrace behind the goal to buy tickets in, some people bought tickets in the seats at the side and still decided to stand despite s lot of protests from those around them.

I ve been to away games by offical coach ,
Unofficial coach and trains and in my experience it’s the ones that go by train that are pissed and coked up

I've been going away with my dad and then mates since the early 90s and rarely have stood in the seat required - just thought that was the way it was from teenage year. If someone asked me to move I would. What I don't like is the aggression of some of our fans - I've called them out too. Cov fans being c*nts to other Cov fans at a game is not on in my view (shouldn't be in life between people but you have to be realistic, it happens)

Bit of a tangent but I have often wondered if the ban on alcohol in view of the pitch may actually make things worse. It certainly feels like for many there is a need to fill up on booze before KO and smash a pint in 15 mins at HT in anticipation of not being able to drink while in the stands.

I think if you could drink beer in view of the pitch the morons would throw it when we score resulting in people getting soaked causing more rows.

Forever getting up and then again when they need to let it go?
Although you won't see that at Coventry rugby!

Maybe it should be unreserved seating at away games. That way the coked up morons who are more interested in goading and swearing at the opposition supporters than the game could be together and the real fans who get behind the team could avoid them therefore making away days a more comfortable experience
Trouble with that is you will find pricks trying to muscle into full rows behind the goal because that where they want to stand and because there's no allocated seat they'll try it on.

Used to get that all the time in the WT. Group who had two ST in our row would come in about 5 minutes into the game with about 6 people and force their way in.

I agree. My nephew did it last night so his friends could sit with them. They don't see it as rude they see it as seeing if they get lucky.

Tried to explain to him some might find it intimidating to say your in my seat etc. but he's 18 and don't care quite frankly.

Found it funny last season when a couple told me I was in wrong seat even though it was my season ticket. Eventually they realised they had wrong block
Are you sure it wasn’t your cousin?

So our next away game is Leeds which I have a ticket for. Suppose I get their to find someone in my allocated seat and refusing to move when I ask like a few do believing they have a right to sit/stand where they want away.
I then try to sit some where else rather than stand arguing with some coked up pissed chav and his mates to then be asked to move by the rightful seat owner. Being a courteous type I then try to move to another seat by which time the stand is almost full and the only place avaialable to me is the seats at Leeds with a restricted view where the first cnt and his mates were supposed to be as they had paid the cheaper ticket price for restricted view.

this scenario will happen at Leeds and those that think they have a right to sit anywhere do you really think this is fair on your fellow supporters.
by the way if it does happen to me Ill be sitting where my ticket says and happy to argue the toss all game if need be whilst standing on your toes.

If Leeds is anything like last year you might do well to get in the correct block, let alone the correct seat.

So what's the answer to the going to away games, Cardiff, Blackburn, Ipswich, Preston, to name a few where we've been advised by home stewards to sit where you can?
I get both sides of the debate but I've always failed to see the point of getting aggravated about sitting/ standing in a randomly allocated seat
If you've gone to the trouble of selecting a specific spot fair enough but you have no idea what seat you're getting when purchasing online
We go to most away games and have never had a problem, if asked we move but are rarely asked as everyone is in the same boat

I think the argument is it affects people who are too timid socially inclined to not speak up for a variety of reasons?

I get that and fully appreciate it must be hard, awkward and intimidating for some people and normally sit in your allocated seat should apply
But, more and more stewards are saying sit where you can despite showing them our tickets , not excusing the obnoxious coked/pissed element we have but if the people in charge of stewarding are saying sit where you can it's going to hapoen

The answer is for stewards to have some bollocks and do their job and people to sit in the seat that they have a ticket for. Either that or print tickets with no seat number and say first come first serve

That's strange. We go to 90% of away games and the only time the stewards have said "sit where you want" has been for pre-season friendlies and once at Sheffield United two seasons ago. Not once since.

Peoples attitude sometimes is just strange

Against Norwich some bloke was sitting in my seat. Wouldn’t move - it was an end of row seat - he said he needed one as he hurt his foot. I told him to find another one then. He actually told a steward to move me and he would rather I did to “save trouble” I just told him to do his job - oddly he wasn’t limping.

Against Spurs with 10 minutes to go two people stood by me - blocked the view of an old guy behind me - told everyone to F Off and wouldn’t move.

I know what you mean, but if someone can't go an hour and a half without a beer, you've got a serious problem

That's your experience, it's not mine.
In the same way I haven't seen anywhere near the level of cuntish behaviour you see but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Have sat wherever I want at every away game in the last 15 years and I go to pretty much all of them.

You’re in the minority I’m afraid losers. Should be unreserved anyway
Your in the minority of dickheads mate and hopefully you will be sat in my seat next week and we can carry on this conversation
