If Lampard is announced at the forum I’d love someone to ask him “You’re taking over after the most popular and successful manager in a generation, under an owner who has shown himself to be impulsive and meddling, with fans who don’t want you and expect success as a bare minimum. Why?”
“Hahahaha — I’m super Franky Lampard ain’t I… no but seriously Doug’s assured me I can blame George Boateng and Claire Roberts if it goes tits up”

Doug would go red and start squeezing his pen

You see the pressure is suddenly different isn't it ?

We've become a different club overnight wether we like it or not
We have, and are no longer underdogs. We’ve got rid of a manager who we have deemed “stale” therefore a new manager must be a significant improvement
That happened the moment we got a kick a way from the premier league and we got rid of owners who literally could not give a fuck.

with Doug I get the feeling he doesn’t want to be here in 5 years time. So to maximise his investment he needs to get us as high as possible.

we’re a stable club at this point, and we’ve been a sleeping giant for sometime. Everything about this city and football heritage screams premier league.

we’ve been to Wembley 4 times in 8 years, we’re competing with the bigger teams. You stop being an underdog at that point

If MR had stayed I was expecting us to recover to be Top 10 come the end of the season, although play offs had become a bit of a stretch, if not impossible. Any new manager will therefore have those same expectations from me.
Doug sacking Robins has allowed people to create a romanticized version of future events if Robins had stayed. I wasn't seeing anything to suggest we were a top 10 team. Our home form given the opposition was very very worrying actually.
I think some of our fans could become quite ridiculous now but expect us to improve in some form.

Was the belief in Coventry City as an entity or the particular incarnation of CCFC from the last six years though?

Taking a long view, this feels an awful lot like the early 2000s. Owner hungry for success, doesn’t quite understand the game. Most fans also hungry for success but generally happy with how we’re progressing towards it. It’s giving “instant success”.

The feeling was very much that Robins should have time to turn it around precisely because we were wary of what lies on the other side of a Robins sacking and how precarious our position is.

To be fair historically we are not a Premier league team and there are currently 20 clubs bigger than us .

Did you think we would go down?
If not surely suggesting a new manager would need to get mid table to be worth justifying replacing Robins is valid?

The brummie interviewer is definitely not gonna use this and instead opt for "frank I'm sure your happy to be here?"

Sacking our greatest manager of the last 40+ years with a long history of turning seasons around to bring in a failed big name like Lampard has set a pretty ridiculous precedent imo, the fans are just following Doug's lead.

We've nor had a bad season under Robins ever .. why would it change this year? We'd just picked up 7 points from 4 games and beyond the next 2 or 3 have a good set of fixtures for a while

Probably not but assuming you are too good to go down is a fools game. I've said I'd want top half and significantly improved home form now but unless the new man absolutely stinks the joint out I'll judge more on next season and hopefully a much better start than this.

I feel like the sacking of Robins means that the requirements are very high for whoever comes in. Even if we have left ourselves with a lot to do this year. It feels like next year we would have start with a bang.

This is exactly how the management merry go round works though. New guy comes in, can’t be judged this year, starts poorly next having spent for two windows, new guy comes in, can’t be judged this year…

Even if the club took 1 step back to move 3 steps forward again doesn't always mean that change was needed .. so what we finish mid table why does it mean we have to totally rip up the foundations and start again ..

Shite it is but whatever we are that club now

Brentford stuck with thomas frank despite having a woeful season last year compared to the season before .

They are currently benefiting from that and sit healthy 2 points off 5th

Given the excuse for many was
A. The coaches are shit
B. The players are shit and a waste of money
Do you actually expect the new man to do any better at all?

Agree to that, but I feel historically we’ve under achieved. Fanbase/city size isn’t indicative of a big club. But it sort of prepares you.

when you look at the potential to a place like Coventry with a somewhat historical significance. (I consider us similar to Southampton) there is potential there.

Yes because everyone was saying Robins tactically had lost it and lost the respect of the changing room

with the start we've had would hope for top half still - cant "expect" playoffs with over a third of the season gone already

I agree the potential is there to see us become a huge club , under Robins we've just gone from 9000 average to 27000

No everyone wasn't. More people were saying what I've just put above. Around 90% I'm told.

That's ridiculous. MR had a proven recored in the previous 2 seasons of turning us round. The Derby game was poor granted, but that was on the back of 2 good performances that indicated an upward channge in momentum. The players we have are also good enough to be top 10 in this league, even if they haven't performed well so far.

I felt under MR we would have had every chance of winning at Sunderland. I suspect DK felt the same as he pulled the plug on him before the chance of that happening, and him then looking more ridiculous for then getting rid, when all logic would otherwise indicate you wait for the international break to get rid of MR and then bringing a new manager in.

And a key thing that's missing is these day like never before the fanbase it very passionate , as we are seeing now

I think we'd have finished mid table with Robins still in charge so to justify the sacking, we should be improving on that.

Realistically it will probably be mid table this year but we have to then be going for play offs next year.
My expectations would have been the same with Robins in charge as well
