What do we still need? (1 Viewer)

I’m not writing him off, he may come good but I think he was probably one of our weakest signings from last season based on what we’ve seen so far. I don’t think we’ll get another LB, so it’s a moot point tbh, but I think LB/RB cover is our weakest area on the pitch (after CM and ST).
He started the season well for me but went off the boil and Bidwell came in and excelled . Still think certain players have been damned by our finish to the season by some of our fan base .
Kitching was excellent for a huge chunk of the season but is damned by the tail end of it
Collins also was more than adequate when we were playing well , way better keeper than Wilson but I'm glad weve signed Dovin
The squad looks happy from recent videos and it looks competitive which is healthy.
I do ,like you , wish to see a new Cm a 8 not a 6 and a young hungry striker
I don't get the obsession for an older centre back , just seems pointless to me and against everything the club is looking to attain

There is balancing act there. If he stays another season, without a new contract, his value will plummet.

I suspect the moment a bid arrives, Sheaf will tell the club he wants to leave
Of course it will but we have to be pragmatic about a player who cost peanuts , it can't be a fire sale just for the sake of it

I'm not akin to players thoughts but we've seen how Gus got on at Sheffield United maybe Sheaf sees us as credible challengers for a Premier League push ?

Hm….Gus did well at Sheffield. He got a good deal out of it and now a potential new move elsewhere.

Marc McNulty mocked a Cov fan who said he had failed…..

Similarly, COH got the right deal for him as an individual when he moved to SUFC

Of course players will put pressure on a club I don't doubt that but I feel within that you have players like Sheaf who have been a part of the journey and might buy into it
I hope so. I hope the current recruitment might persuade Sheaf that the club means business

Or maybe he isn't getting any offers and our fans are overrating him? In reality those same people were saying he was going straight to the Premier League for £20+ million are now shifting their tune and preparing for when it doesn't happen so that they can instead say 'he's so loyal' and 'buying into the CCFC cause'. It's all a bit odd.

My point with Gus is sometimes it's better the devil you know

If we’re in a position where we’re relying on Tavares, Obikwu or Dausch… we’re in trouble.

We'd only be using them if both Simms and Wright are out for more than a couple of games at the same time. It's a stretch to say that's relying on them.

Not as odd as your weird hatred towards him

Yeah I agree with all of that tbf, I just think the more signings the better, obviously there’s a point where too many players leads to a bloated squad but I don’t think we’re near that point yet. I’m certainly not going to be moaning about cost if Doug keeps bringing players in (not saying you are btw), this is our golden opportunity this season, we need to the best team possible so we can gain promotion.

We fielded two teams the other night, and that was without Torp, Dovin, Rodriguez and Howley. We can’t sign too many more. Another CM, a striker and perhaps a centre half would be more than enough

I’m not saying we need a shit ton of players, just a few more would see us have a complete, quality squad. I know we fielded two teams the other day but a lot of those were academy/youth players that I assume will have little impact in any our games this season (maybe except for Dausch, Burroughs and Andrews) and even the youth players that do play this season aren’t the quality we need right now in order to achieve promotion.

If we have an injury/suspension to MVE or Simms etc then I really think our performances we take a serious hit if the likes of Burroughs or Andrews had to come in, for example. These players can do a job but if for some reason we’re relying on them for a long period of time and we’re playing Leeds, Burnley, Luton etc every other week then I can’t see how that ends well. It’s only a minor point but I still think the more the merrier (up to a point) when it comes to signings.

'Hatred'. Crikey. He's probably not going to shag you, although you're welcome to try.

You do seem to have some weird obsession with him as every time he is mentioned in any form you feel the need tell everyone how shit he is. Not sure what he’s done to you or your family.

I can only imagine that you walk around growling at anyone with the same name.

Every chance you get to have a pop at Sheaf you’re all over it. You must surely see that’s a bit weird

Not really. I don't see how anything I've said there isn't true. The go-to defensiveness rather than reasoned counter-arguments usually tells me all I need to know. It was the same when I questioned the attacking output of COH, and got pages of abuse from people that have since changed their tune.

I recognise I'm in the minority with my view here, but unless something changes I'll say it how I see it.

Here’s a question Earlsdon. Would you start him on the opening day? If not what would be your midfield

He's going to end up with more valentines cards than Jay from The Inbetweeners at this rate. This cult is so weird. Stop getting so upset.

Whilst I don’t agree with all your views on Sheaf, it’s good to see an opposing viewpoint for once.

One question is how to play Saka, EMC, Simms, Wright in our first choice. Most of us would like to see those 4 as starters. Signs are pointing to a 4-3-3. Could Saka work as one on the midfield 3: Saka, Sheaf, Rudoni. Top 3: EMC, Simms, Wright. Not saying it’s likely but can’t see another way to get them all on the pitch any other way in a 4-3-3.

Simple answer is they wont all play at the same time. Finally we have a squad with options on the bench

A big difference between clubs not giving us our asking price and him being overrated like you seem to obsessively claim. You ask for reasoned counter arguments but, if you genuinely dont rate Sheaf, then that does indeed tell me all i need to know about your own judgement

Right, so your counter argument is that 'I'm wrong'. Classic.

Not quite. We’re looking to bring in players with a different profile so we can adapt to various in-game challenges.

It’s not a stretch at all. Wright went off as a ‘precaution’ on Friday and in a league campaign, the LW would be well stocked. However, you need Simms to play 90m of every game unless we’re playing a non-striker upfront or vice versa if Simms went down injured. That isn’t a sustainable.

Realistically, your depth chart needs 2 players of quality in each position as a minimum requirement and Wright would be more of a LW than ST. After Simms, there isn’t anyone reliable to slot in.

Dausch, Obikwu nor Tavares will be in the first team come August. All will probably be loaned out so they can develop.
