What the fuck has happened to England (2 Viewers)

And when we've had them (Eriksson, Capello) they didn't win tournaments!
Ignoring the fact we were rarely a top 5 team in the world under either manager.. there were some genuinely great teams around when sven was manager .. cappelo we weren't in the best place were we ?

Southgate had everything in his favour except the ability to pick a great centre half

Some great national teams in transition too , and he still fluffed it

One of their midfielders plays for a team that has just been relegated to the third tier in our leagues, there is probably 2 or 3 players that are actually on paper good enough to play for England if they were English

We’ve only got one more international break, and two games, before the World Cup. Too late to sack him and get someone else in, but not enough time to bring back the positivity. Think Qatar is going to be grim.

You look at the team tonight, disjointed, players playing out of position too.

Stones or Maguire can’t be trusted to play together IMO. Each need a steady head bedside them to manage them through the game… just too erratic and not good enough as a centre back pairing.
But the front section is out of kilter too. Foden/Mount just seem to be exactly the same type of player, yet for all their creativity seem to struggle to break down a stubborn resolute back line that will sit in. Gallagher couldn’t get in the game and do what he does at Palace… thought Bellingham was too restricted too.

Can’t believe what I sat through tonight. Yes, no one cares about the Nations League but the performance was really embarrassing.

Ultimately, there’s not too much to look into these fixtures. All that matter is that the team is primed for the World Cup, and Southgate has delivered at major tournaments so far.

What has he actually delivered though? Any other major team would have sacked him probably after the Croatia game or if not certainly after the Italy game... We as a country celebrate failure for some reason and if we want to go the next step he needs to go

You’re talking absolute nonsense. Our team in 2018 was probably worse than Croatia and Italy were the form team in that tournament.

So it wasn't Southgate's tactical failures that cost us both games then? Must have been watching different matches than me... Nice guy but so far out of his depth it's actually funny now

"It's up to the manager to inspire them and get them up for this. What about Germany, look at the season their players have had.

If you want to create for Harry Kane, it has to come from somewhere. Phil Foden is a genius, an absolute genius, he could be one of the most decorated footballers of the English game because he is that good and started so young at Manchester City.

He's one of the first names in their team but we struggle to get him in the England team. Build a system around him, he is one of the most creative players in the Premier League, he could dominate the game.

Give Jack Grealish the freedom, tell him to go and beat the full-back and take him on."

Have to say I agree with this. The first bit certainly, anyway. Only trouble is, I think Southgate will always select Mason Mount ahead of Phil Foden and that's one of the problems I have with Southgate.

I do think he has done a good job in many ways, but I have always said we are capable of better. The Italy final game was a case in point, where we sat too deep and tried to defend a 1-0 lead.

I have no problem with 2 defensive midfielders. It has worked for us at times. We just need to make sure our forward thinking players are able to attack, so it does need someone in the middle of the park who can unlock defences.

I think Foden should be one of the very first names on the teamsheet. Without any doubt.

We have looked pretty powder puff now for the last 4 games, with next to no attacking threat.

As people have said, it's too late now to change Southgate, so we just need to hope he knows he has to change things around on the pitch. Let the flair players flourish, while giving help to the back four. Tall order, but Foden is a box to box player and to my mind, a superior player to Mount.

I seriously don't think he is picking Mount ahead of Foden, who is clearly an outstanding player. Foden looked knackered at the end of the season and I think he is quite reasonably resting him as much as possible for these fairly meaningless matches.

There’s no reasoning with you. I’m sure there’s a host of better managers who could take us further in major tournaments. Only took 22 years for someone to take us to a major tournament semi-finals… 55 to get To a finals.

Too many fans have silly meltdowns every bad result we have. All that matters, is the major tournaments. Germany, Italy, France and so on don’t fixate on the nothing games.

Foden was also an injury doubt going into the game too. As much as I’m annoyed at tonight’s performance, this tournament just isn’t worth ruining our top performers fitness.

This season, we have a shortened preseason, the start of the Prem season and then the World Cup. The players need their rest.

Cooper is Welsh, but great job with the England kids and since with Swansea and Forest. Howe, many more knowledgeable in the game than me say how good he is and of course Potter, looks like he's going places. All of those are clean cut and fit the Southgate mould if you want options, but are all tactically superior to him.

If as we're all saying these are meaningless friendlies, then give some guys a rest. What could he possibly learn about a knackered Kane or Sterling from these? A perfect opportunity to try things out. If he had and then we'd failed, at least you could have said it was experimental and he'd have received more slack. Try with the false striker like Man City have deployed, play wing backs, play one holding midfielder, give Maddison a chance etc etc but all he did was replace some personnel into the same rigid restraints.

Personally I think he's living off the easy passage to the WC semis and a post covid run of home euro games. Great times, but he's not progressed and we can't afford to wait for another failure with this crop of players before replacing him.

I get why he didn't pick him tonight, but I am sure he has done so before, in picking Mount and Foden being on the bench.

What the 8 pages is going on here then

It’s a fucking exhibition tournament I genuinely can’t believe anyones watching it never mind going to it 😂

couldn’t tell you what any of the scores have been.

Last real tournament we were in we got to the final, that’s all that matters.

You are happy with England's last four games, not scoring from open play for about 5 hours, losing 4-0 to a team 40th in the world and the worst home defeat in almost 100 years?
