What's up with Ben Sheaf? (4 Viewers)

Obviously wanted his move in the summer which he didn't get.

Not that he isn't trying now but he's seemingly lost that edge/drive in his performances.

I just don’t think he’s quite over his injury from preseason because he was taking injections at various points to get through the game.

That will impact your performance and it’s not helped that the team as a whole are just not playing well. That last point applies to everyone btw.

His form is a worry but form can come and go.

Whats concerning for me is his body language, today he was shrugging his shoulders / arms out blaming others for not moving, sulking back to his position.

He has every right to moan at teammates if they are not reading his passes but today the passing from Sheaf was terrible.

Not alone may I add.

But this also sums everything up, the next in line for the captaincy is Lati and he is nothing to write home about.

The lack of leaders is ridiculous, how did nobody address this last summer is non excusable

I think without a Hamer & COH/Palmer replacement he is trying to take on the creative responsibility which he’s not good enough to do. He plays his best football as a destroyer, I would try Rudy next to him at this point

What pissed me off was his constant soft chips out of play that in no way tested their defenders or keeper.

He then decided that instead of trying to link anything up, he would just pass the responsibility on to Thomas to try and kick the ball into the box.

That actually baffled me

We spend ages pissing around with the ball like we're waiting for the perfect chance to present itself then Sheaf just boots it out for a goal kick, not getting anywhere near anyone.

Yes and also made even worse by the rest of the fuckers hiding…missing someone like O Hare finding space and able to have the ball thumped at him at a million miles sn hour

Another season where our best patch of form is looking to come when he's out of the team.

Of course, whilst there are many variables that can be discussed, the bottom line is - who drops out of the team for him now? We look the most progressive and dangerous I've seen us from midfield in a long time.
We will need him ready to contribute to prevent the burnout we saw last season.

Can I be honest. I’d use him sparingly. Get him fully fit, and try and get as much as possible as we can for him in the summer.

Get him on the bench. If he was having injections, fair enough get 100% match fit.

If not still go on the bench. Time for him to have a fire up his arse and get rid of this compliancy he seems to have this year or to get fit enough to play a game of football and not just exist in one

We're going to need all our squad. It's like saying there's no room for Wright or EMC as we have won 3 in a row without it. I trust Frank to use him as required, and a lot will depend on whether he moves back to me 4231.
You trust Frank?

Last week at nil nil you made a sarcastic comment about elite tactician?

And before anyone says anything this isn't me trolling I just don't understand how people can flip flop like this without admitting it at least.

Yes I did make a flippant comment, I'm not convinced he's the elite tactician Doug thinks he is. I think he's been really fortunate, that injuries have forced his hand. It happened with Robins moving to the box, then moving to 421.

I still trust he will make use of the players as he sees fit, as I would with any manager.

Some would say injuries are unfortunate you know. Good managers adapt like robins did and lampard is doing currently.

I still expect 433 back eventually. And sheaf will have his part to play

My understanding is he had the injury and has only been playing with injections thereafter. It explains why his performances haven't been at the level we wanted. Fully agree now is the time to try and get him fully fit. He will be needed this season but we need the Ben Sheaf that really makes a difference on the pitch so getting him fully fit makes a lot of sense to me.

No one should drop out for him in my opinion but he will be needed, there will be injuries and suspensions and we're thin on the ground as it is.

1. I think Sheaf will be sold this summer, A) He’ll want to go, B) we’ll need him to to fund our own signings
2. When fit and in form, he is one of the best defensive midfielders in this league. That is WHY people will want to sign him in the first place and why he’ll have options available to him.
3. He should not be doing the role he has been put into this year, thats not his game and we’re having to ask him to do that due to our own failings in recruitment. In addition to that, he’s been playing through injury all season.
4. When he is fully fit. He replaces Allen.
Its a no brainer and it will allow Rudoni and Torp to truly get creative like they were today.

Sheaf operates in front of the defence, purely focused on breaking up opposition attacks and then moving the ball on to either the wing or to the “number 10”
Now Rudoni and Torp have hit form and playing their roles so well, i think we’ll get back to also seeing the best out of Sheaf, we have to stop asking him to fill the role of every type of midfielder and then criticising when it doesnt look right.

Also “yet again our best form when he’s out of the team” - Correlation doesnt equal causation.
There’s a reason teams in this league and higher are going to be trying to sign Sheaf not Allen this summer.

(for clarity, Allen has done well last few games, buzzing for him, but Sheaf is still the man for me)

He got away with it before because he had ohare and hamer with him, now he’s the player we expect to step up he’s shown he can’t do it in this team, Tbf to him he’s got Eccles and torp next to him, he’s bound to struggle, he’d be better with Allen in there for Eccles,
Certainly right about Allen weren't you,but not with himself out through injury!

Sheaf has bulked up hasn't he ? Stronger certainly.
Has that "bulking up" led to him being "permanently" injured.
Has he followed the science ??

P.S Can't get that Watford song out of my head
