Wood to Wolves? (1 Viewer)

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but yesterday I read of Saunders wanting to take him as a LEFT BACK...

I can't find the link, but I was shown by a wolves fan yesterday.

And the wages would pay for our share of what Earnshaw would get :)

It would show what a plank Saunders is. Wood is too slow to be a full back and is too slow and makes too many simple mistakes that would be punished at a higher level as a centre back. Wood is just about at his level now but hasn't got it for the Championship. I'm in two minds about it as while we are in league 1 he is doing okay for us and getting away with it so to speak but if we were going up then I would want him off the books for someone with more mobility and better decision making.

Whenever Wood has played left back he's been poor. Also he couldn't make our first team last year, so...

On the fence, Wood has been solid enough this season, however his wages are ridiculous, if he goes it give us extra room in the wage budget to bring someone else in, if he stays, good, he's playing well and will hopefully help in our promotion push

What wage is he on?

I think hes been doing a good job, looked solid enough the last few games ive seen him. Him and Edge seem to have a decent partnership so if he leaves id be slightly concerned about the disruption it would cause. But then as rupert says...in MR we trust! Im sure he will have something sorted if this does happen.

i agree with CTID, yes the wage bill would benefit but hes got a good partnership at the mo with edje and we dont want to disrupt that

also in terms of heart and giving his all for the team hes right up there at the top in our current squad

i kno id want him in a playoff final etc

and those who follow my posts will know how crazy that sounds considering i HATE his passing ability!!!!!!!! but this season hes a bit better imo

Pinch of salt rumour. However it would be good business if anyone were to take him, his contract is certainly one of the biggest on the books and a good division 3 centre back can't be hard to bring in at half his wages. I think his contract ends in July so I'm sure he will be looking to his future. Just hope losing him does not cause a form blip.

To even consider that removing Wood from this squad would be ok shows some people have no understanding of football...look where the supposedly stellar players of Keogh and Cranie are now and then consider where we might have been had we had the big ugly lump that is Wood there instead.

Ok so he is not the best passer in the world but god can he win a tackle and a header and anyway we have Edge to knock it around from the back.

Keep the squad together, keep heading towards Wembley (maybe twice) start breaking it up and see the team crumble again. Learn the mistakes of the past City.

I'd rather we keep Wood (at least until the end of the season), him and Edge have looked a very good partnership in this division and letting him go would leave us quite low on numbers for CB.

So, we finally have a centre back pairing that play well alongside each other and now we are championing one of those possibly going? Madness...

Plus, all this hurrah about his wages. How do you know he is still on the £8k that was banded about when we were in the Championship? Didn't all of the City players have new wages & contracts signed off very early on at the start of the season? I'd hazard a guess he is on nowhere near that money now.

If he goes we'd be a weaker side IMO.

Don't say that! People will start questioning your sanity! Apparently it's absolutely fine to break the spine of our team and one of the many reasons we've done so well this season!

Can't believe people would celebrate losing our best centre back. Not technically great, but solid, gives 100% and ultimately very good at this level.

This football club has to get on a proper financial footing, sorting out the rent was a start but trimming the playing staff wage bill is even more important. We have four players on very lucrative contract - Bell, Baker, Sheff and Wood. These contracts are totally out of keeping with our income or status as a third tier club. It is unlikely that we would be able to move any of the first three on but if there is a chance to get Wood off the wage bill it has to be taken, not for footballing reasons but for financial reasons. He is a decent enough player and has done well in recent weeks but I am sure we could secure a replacement for a third of what Wood is currently on. This club will continue to trim its costs and as the playing budget is the biggest component of the clubs costs expect more of these in the coming months.

I want a player in my side that plays with a broken face, technically not the best, but attitude and commitment wise is bang on.
Woody has the heart of a lion.

Where do people get these things about wood's wages? as far as i'm concerned nobody has a definite figure for his wages. he could be on as much as sheffers or bell we don't know.

Wood is usually great in both boxes and wins most of his headers. He also puts his body on the line and has stopped countless goals this season.

ignorance is bliss

Ignorance or not. Jan speaks for the trust when on here unless a caveat is added I'd suggest. So it should be added.
Regardless of what is being said.

The caveat being that he is speaking for himself.
