Apparently, you can’t compare eras m8..
… but you can then spend a couple of hours arguing that Hill was better.
Of course Robins is up there with the best.. and stating it doesn’t diminish anyone else’s achievements at club.

He'd be up there for sure, mainly because of the handicap of owners. As said, impossible to compare across eras, Hill was backed by a chairman but did change the entire culture, Sillett changed us from permanent relegation battlers to major trophy winners and regular competitors, Harry Storer transformed the club and was just stopped from taking us on by the war.
At the moment it's easy to say Sillett and Hill are out there just because of achievement. Robins going up would indeed be astonishing really - if he won the FA Cup he'd be the greatest by far
Couple of things in Robins favour for me: the chasm to the Championship and certainly to the Prem is much bigger than in Hills day. Also I’d argue he’s changed the culture massively. The funk around the club before he came was incomparable in my lifetime as was the distance between club and fans. He’s turned that on the head to the point where the atmosphere and fan connection is one of the best in the country. That really can’t be underrated.

No is is disparaging the FA Cup win. Just that it was easier for Sillett to take an established top flight team and win the cup than it was for Robins to take a club on the verge of extinction back to the PL.
The top ten thing is a bit silly. Bobby Gould & Phil Neal were only 1 point off getting us a top ten finish in 1994, but I doubt they will be appearing on any greatest ever managers list. And if we did go on that, it would have to be Noel Cantwell

Not just that, the season we finished 7th we were genuinely right up there with 2/3 of the season gone. If Europe had been on the cards they'd have kept their motivation in the run-in too. That's arguably the best league season we've ever had, we've never been so good for so long.

Winning the FA Cup and how we won it was a fantastic feat and Silletts spell as manger was fantastic after the cup he kept us comfortably top ten or more in the first division which was tremendous when you look at the opposition at the time and he had that knack at getting that bit more from his players than others would certainly top three with Robins and Hill who was the best ? none really they were of their time and I’m glad we had the three and in MRs case still have.

He’s half right - Championship constraints have been there. But he arguably had a top 3 budget in league two and consistently had a top 10 budget in the league one seasons.Have you bumped your head recently...
getting out of league two at first time if asking was a minimum requirement and to this day I don’t know why people were concerned about that.

Managers roles are different for all 3 we would consider potentially the best, universally, all have taken the club from a low to a high, with different circumstances and different situations, having started work at 16 in a factory in the 1986/87 season, the city itself was in a low and that team and achievements transformed something very special as Hill had done before, when maybe there were not lots of competing factors. Robins has done so to a certain extent in an era with so many more competing leisure activities so harder to drag a complete city forward but for those of us who have been on this journey, it’s been spectacular.

League 2 I will give you but League 1 we didn't have a huge wage budget and since the championship we have certainly had a low budget compared to position. Also thos ignores moving grounds, no investment in the training facilities. Having to sell Hyam to stay in business and fix a pitch that delayed a load of games. If that isn't constraints or a bunch of issues I don't know what is! Also to add on the fans and club basically at war with each other too...

Here's how I would rate them
Sillett - Gave us our highest honour. Coventry City peaked (to date) under Sillett.
Hill - Made Coventry City the club it is today. Without him we would still be playing in a ramshackle Highfield Road, eaking out an existence as a 2nd or 3rd tier club. A Peterborough type club.
Robins - Saved the club from extinction. I do genuinely believe we would be non league now if it wasn't for him

The league winning team was impressive. But let’s not pretend it was completely out of the realms of possibility - Wycombe for instance had a tiny budget and went up with us. Arguably a bigger achievement that year

But why pick Wycombe? Why not pick the (at least seven) teams who didn't win the title despite having a bigger budget? Why ignore the fact we won a title playing in Birmingham?

Luton won't have done it with the same manager if they do either, although it would probably be fair to say without Jones's work they wouldn't be up there now.

35 clubs have played in all 4 divisions, how many of those with 1 manager from bottom to top , will be very very few
