Most journalists in the old days had copy editors and sub editors, and time. None of those exist now.

People won't pay for quality journalism, it's as simple as that. The Internet killed the classifieds sections that kept local news afloat and are undercutting the nationals on pure getting news out quickly, as well as better advertising.

Yes, but it's a vicious circle. Online media means less money for print media, which means lower quality journalism, and this in turn leads to fewer people spending money on print media. The print media industry is basically fucked.

Sadly this isn’t even close to true. Far more people pay for the complete drivel in the tabloids than for stuff like the FT or the Economist. Shitty journalism does very very well and that’s why other media outlets are following suit.

Jesus Buzzfeed started out as nothing but the shit we make fun of the CT for and now is seen as a serious organisation worthy of teaming up with the BBC.
