It's all unthinkable really. Like some kind of parallel universe for most of us.
It is all too easy to point fingers of blame at social workers, police, parents, teachers or whoever...but at the end of the day - it is OUR society, WE are society. Over the years we have taken away (often for good reason) the powers to nip things in the bud. We can't pick & choose where we can have a liberal attitude & society. Some would argue this scenario is a result of such an attitude. Professionals such as those above have their hands tied by red-tape, lack of funding, poor follow-up infrastructure & lack of support. They often feel passionate about their work & what they ought & want to do - but they have been disenfranchised. They have to provide virtually unquestionable evidence of their need to step in. That is not easy to come by & staffing levels means they go for the easier pickings. Personally, I am very much live & let live as long as nobody else is harmed against their will. These people are guilty of overstepping that line.
We are all appalled by this programme because of the scale of it. Had this not been televised - suffering for the poor kids in isolated cases would still go on!
Hopefully, the authorities will work to address the imbalance & protect kids from having their lives ruined in this, or any other extreme behavioural way.

It isn't just Bradford or Rochdale either. This sort of thing was rife in Coventry many years ago. There are at least two children's homes, ran by the City Council, that I know of this sort of activity. I can't name the two in question - libel law etc - but when I worked for Social Services (looking after vulnerable adults), it came to light about these two establishments and what was going on right under the noses of the staff. I have to say in the staff's defence, they really knew nothing at the time, but my point is, this isn't something confined to Asians in the North. This was going back to the mid 1980's.

I believe there were people sent down from both of the ones I'm thinking of, Nick. Also a third has come to mind. It's unbelievable just what went on in these places. Hopefully, no more.

If you have evidence of abuse and don't go to the police you're as bad as the abusers. If you know for a fact about historical abuse it's your duty to report it.

Edit: Ive just woken up and on second reading may have got the wrong end of the stick.

Unfortunately, it is similar to the experience I had with girls I looked after. They were getting abused but the police weren't interested when I reported it as they said that it was consensual and they could do nothing about it. It was frustrating

What I don't get is how things like this are different to say Adam Johnson?

That was consensual, she was under age.

Don't envy your job!

Definitely the wrong end of the stick, shmmeee! The guys in question all received sentencing via the courts.

I've just watched this on iplayer. I hadn't heard of the program until I saw it on here. As someone who was brought up in care and witnessed sexual abuse by nuns and priests, I thought I wouldn't be too affected. How wrong I was. Inside, I was torn apart imagining the hell these poor kids had gone through. I don't believe in any god whatsoever but I hope these kids have someone or something to turn to, so they get help to cope with their future, because believe me, when you've been there yourself, you never forget.

Grooming gangs exist amongst all cultures and is not confined to Islam. The likes of Tommy Robinson using it to attack Muslims as a whole should be widely condemned.

Did you see the credits at the end of the programme? Cities and towns all over England have Muslim grooming gangs doing the same as what happens in Rochdale. This is not an isolated incident and fact the police didn't originally press charges was due to the perpetrators being Muslim. The system stinks and more is needed in these communities to speak out but they won't

i need to watch the documentry,is it on iplayer?

how police can ignore such a thing is ridiculous and in inquest is required and heads must role

what sort of peer pressure?

Is it not a 3 episode docu-drama. I plan to watch ep1 (which I missed) on iPlayer, I've got the other 2 on record.

These local gangs are largely Muslim.

Personally, I wouldn't feel as though I should apologise for grooming done by an atheist, would why should Muslims?

Are you taking the piss?

If you knew grooming was occurring in your community/area surely you would make sure it was stopped and make the authorities aware. Would you not? I know I would.

"Localised Grooming" Gangs (convictions from 1997)

This list is compiled based on definitions provided by Andrew Norfolk, The Times, 5 January 2011:

"The 17 cases identified by The Times which showed a pattern of exploitation"

The 17 cases identified by The Times which showed a pattern of exploitation

Andrew Norfolk won the Orwell Prize for Journalism for his reporting on grooming gangs. He was the only journalist who provided expert testimony to the House of Commons select committee, in their (2012-2013) investigation into the grooming gangs. This parliamentary investigation (published June 2013) concluded that it "would certainly seem to be the case" that most of grooming gangs are muslim. http://bit.ly/13sh94D See p.52.

99 convictions, 6 non-muslims

94% of those convicted in the grooming gangs are muslims

The Times article from Jan 5 2011, on this grooming phenomenon shows a realisation (at least in one newspaper) of the scale of the problem. You can see his original list (to the end of 2010). There have been as many convictions since 2010, as there were in the previous 13 years investigated by Norfolk.

The vast majority of the victims of the gangs listed above were white/non-muslim girls. However, some were asian (there's no evidence of any of the asian girls being of any religion other than sikhism).

Bullshit. When over 100 girls get groomed raped and abused, plenty of people knew but nothing was said. The Muslim community should be coming out and marching for these girls saying how much they condone the actions. Like when they march on the streets against British soldiers and against Tesco selling bacon crisps near Ramadan aisle. I wonder what's more important to protest about. A bunch of rapists or Tesco selling bacon crisps

Should white men have come out and marched against the cover up over Jimmy Saville? All of the Muslims I know are horrified about any sort of chid grooming. They also didn't march against soldiers or crisps. Yet again, you're tarring the majority due to the actions of a minority.

There is absolutely no comparison in scale and scope. Saville was a sick sociopath, these gangs are part of deep rooted cultural & religious beliefs that treat persons from different cultures as inferiors to be abused, used and even enslaved. It has to be scourged from this country. I don't understand why you defend them by constantly seeking to derail the topic.

As the show said majority of peados are white. Ridiculous to make out gangs are worse than loners. Its all sick

Also interesting that in episode 3 they had same debate i did about upbringings and morals. Bbc nailed it from all sides.

As for muslim community its not like these scumbags come home and tell their wife and kids i banged a 14yo white girl today. They will keep talk to those involved.

As for parents defending them thats in every community. How many times have we seen white or black people kill people on streets and their parents day my boys a good un he would never hurt no one etc

Bottom line is grooming gangs need to be stopped. If that means focussin on pakistani ones first as they sre more prevelent then that is fine. Lets not be stupid enough to tar everyone as culprits or acomplices.

P.s lets.hope.victims can go on to lead happy lives in the years to come.

I am defending those who are being tarred with the same brush, why is that such as issue to you?

Do you feel the need to apologise for racist attacks by white people in this country?

white Europeans have been travelling to south east Asia and fucking children for years, doesn't mean we all do it and I find it disgusting but I've never felt compelled to march down the street about it either.
