Not sure Scunthorpe fans would agree.

Anything is possible. This is CCFC after all. Wouldn't necessarily make him hero to zero just as it shouldn't have with Mowbray. Sometimes you ride your luck and sometimes you have no luck. You can only judge a season on balance as it is a marathon not a sprint and on balance we had our best season in a decade. We started strong and finished strong. If the results had have been more evenly distributed nobody would have suggested otherwise. You're judging on one period of the season in isolation and ignoring two others.
Yep, indeed you can. I just remain confident that here in League Two, with this squad and Robins at the helm, we will not have the same sort of calamitous slump.

Middlesborough fans did warn us that though Mowbray was great while things were going well, once things strated to go wrong he just didn't seem to put things right again.

I am indeed just talking about that one period in isolation. From 1st to bottom.

I liked Mowbray's philosophy and I liked his style of play and I really liked him as man, but when it all started to unravel it all went very, very badly wrong.

I actually agree with you AND Tony. Your comments on TM reflect mine exactly, but the point I think Tony is making is also true. MR`s track record hasn`t always been that flash and it`s far too early to be making some of the wild predictions I`m seeing on here based on two (admittedly good) performances. It is indeed a marathon of a season and a lot can happen in all that time.

It can, but we are one of the favourites to go up, we all pretty much think Robins has recruited really, really well and assembled a very good squad, this time we recruited earlier and we went for spirit and leadership qualities as much as anything else and because we recruited early players have therefore players had more time to gel, we have started off brilliantly and 3 go up automatically, not 2 and there are 7 places to play for, not 6.

In League One we were usually not at all favourites and you could always pinpoint clubs who you expected to do better than us. As someone said on the phone in last night though, are there truly 7 better teams than us in this division?

Early days, yep, for sure, but you can sense a sea change this season can't you?

Yep indeed.

You felt with Mowbray once that slump started he really struggled to know how it turn it round and we kept just doing the same things hoping it would change.

With Robins I am sure he will mix it up, change tactics and formations and plan for each game differently.

Poor, late, summer recruitment last season vs good, early summer recruitment this.

Last season no wins in first ten, this, 2 wins out of 2.

Early days but it already feels very different.

My biggest concern is that we don't have adequate cover, particularly defensively, if we get a couple of injuries.

I think we will be okay.

DKE and Grimmer for right back.

Stokes, Haynes and Camwell for left back.

Pearson, Willis, Hyam and McDonald for CB, with Stokes who can cover too.

From what I've seen defence against most teams in this division should be ok, even with a couple of the kids covering.
let's just keep banging in the goals that should be enough....

We have the biggest squad in the whole division. If we don't have adequate cover what do they have?

At least we can bring in the younger players when needed for cover. They can slowly get experience. And we have players that will look after them. Very different from previous seasons when they were put straight into the team and had nobody to look after them.

I feel pretty optimistic too for the reasons you`ve outlined, but lots of things can happen over 9 months or so such as injuries, loss of form.

Just trying to keep things in perspective. Before the season started many on here said they would be happy with a play off place,

It`s a bit early to suddenly raise aspirations only two games into the season. It`s also still to early to see how the Lutons, Mansfields, Lincolns and who knows who else are going to perform.

If we are still in this position after 10 games or so then we have a good marker for how things will go.

Have I missed something?

I haven't seen anyone say that we should make the top 3 or we have failed. Yes we have a good chance of doing it. But that is a different matter. We all know it can and will be a long hard season. About 50 games to go. Could be more with cup runs. But we are well equipped if you compare us with other clubs.

Robins is absolute key, I liked the progress we made under him last time and again he shows he has some flair for what is required. I think he maybe sees Jones as his new McGoldrick in terms of causing some havoc to the opposition at this level. Have to be honest I watched the live stream on here yesterday and the old passion began to rise again watching the City fans, I'm getting tempted again............

In a pinch Willis and Pearson can play RB as well. And then you’ve got the kids.

Can’t undestand the cover worries, this has to be the most balanced squad I remember for some time.

Only tempted? Man up and sort yourself out. You don't want to risk missing out on something special.

Back to the topic then-I think 8500 will be a good turnout as there won't be 1700 or so from Newport. Anything over that will be a bonus.

The Ricoh will be a big draw to league 2 fans.

As you say I doubt Newport will bring many,a few hundred.

Sure they have few fans but Newport is an easy journey, mostly /A40/M50M5/M40. The reverse fixture might be challenging for the Newport Police.

I think there will be more that 8.5K with the team riding high, for some reason games like that with the team on the up and the crowds building up are usually a let down & we lose or draw 0-0 in a boring game. Can Robins turn that around, it will really help the season if he can.

I think there will be more Newport fans than you think, the old Wales v England scenario and this is the "big" English fixture for them taking the Ricoh Arena factor into account. Having said that there was about 9000 home fans for the Notts County game in the holiday season too so given the start we have had it will be disappointing if it's a lot less than 10000.

Coming from Newport on Saturday for the game and very much looking forward to it having previously been to Highfield Road in the days of Huckerby et al,
the Ricoh Arena will be another one dusted.

There's a lot of interest in this game and it's a relatively simple journey, there's been a number of coaches filled as well as other modes of transport - expect a decent following, 800 - possibly more.
