No one is saying all crime can be stopped. But i would rather stop harmful acts and have ppl go oit of thetr way to get it than legalise it and let people harm Themselves whilst i pride myself on them not breaking laws to get hold it

seeking an altered state of conscientious is human nature, (and some animals too).
It should be controlled and legislated correctly.
The argument for the criminalisation of drugs would hold a lot more water if we hadn't legalised one of the most dangerous drugs ever synthesised.
I'm not scared of a system where "druggies" are punished but I'm am scared by a society with such a lack of progression as ours is turning into.

I'd much rather spend an evening with someone who is stoned than someone who is pissed.

Haven't smoked weed for 10 years. Just think the amount of tax raised from cannabis sales could go towards funding treatment for alcohol related illnesses on the NHS.

Would have to.do research into that one and wether it helps or not.

If proven it does then in a perfect world you put rigiuous checks into.make sure only those that need it get it.

If that person gives it to others then if caught.both punished.

You could use the exact same argument for alcohol though. Also, it is very much a minority of people who end up with mental health problems.

You probably underestimate exactly how many people now smoke it, it's a lot more common than you seem to think.

The only person I've ever seen suffering from psychosis was alcohol induced.

He's right, think you are interpreting it as the bottom of the scale of 'drunk' having only just stopped working at a pub, we know when somebody is too far gone, and it's only illegal for us to continue service when we think they are a risk to themselves or others.

All of the people i know are normal functioning members of society. Even my retired 65 year old mother who smoked it until her early 30s and took LSD back in the day.

As the more enlightened on this thread have already stated....people will ALWAYS want to get off their head.......there are tribes in the rain forests who still don't recognise borders & laws that have been taking psychoacitve drugs since the year dot.....

Current system: Addicts are already GIVEN free drugs from the state: Methadone. Its addictive in itself, has very limited success rate in treatment & makes a fortune (taken direct from the tax payer) for the multinational pharma companies & dispensing chemists etc.
These methadone addicts more often than not still commit crime.....often the very scummy crimes of petty theft, mugging & burglary etc. in order to purchase H. The police, NHS, prison service & social services are left to pick up the pieces.....at further considerable cost.

Surely a better solution is for the state to give the addicts safe heroin: This would surely result in less crime, less drug related deaths & better treatment & help for those addicted & requiring help. Saves the country a fortune & makes society considerably safer & happier.
Other "recreational" drugs such as weed could also be sold through government licensed premises to raise state funds & also ensure some kind of quality control. Again, this would dramatically reduce the funds available to organised crime gangs & free up more resources for the emergency services.

Or we could all bury our heads in the sand & pretend that prohibition & tougher prison sentences will resolve the issue......just like they NEVER have in the last 50 years of trying.
