I think people need to realise that there are natural strikers who have the instinct to be in the right place at the right time, praised when they are scoring and tagged as luxury players when they are not. Then there are forward players who don't score many but work hard and occupy / challenge defenders so creating chances for others. We need both. Would you have Jutkievitch back - he doesn't t score many either but he makes the defence fight for every ball?

Exactly and you need a nice balance of one of each.
For many games this season we only had the hard worker with no natural finisher up front.

Two in two for the first team now isn’t it?

Lineker never scored from more than about five yards his whole career, still a bloody good striker
Who did he get first goal against?

I think we have to trust MR to bring him on at the right pace so that his development is strong and sustained. Last thing he needs is too much pressure

looks a good prospect and well done him!

Agreed
We all know that if he starts and goes two games without scoring there will be plenty of experts on here claiming he's 'clueless, doesn't care, etc. etc...'

From me starting this thread my opinion has actually changed a little, whilst I was calling for us to throw him in at the deep end when we weren't netting goals, now the team seemed to have gelled somewhat I'm just happy he's started to be used in and around the match day squad. Just being a part of a team that's winning will breed confidence and I have no doubt that when the lad finally does get his chance, he'll take it.

What I don't like however is how some of our fans seem to want to find the negative in absolutely anything, there was a post last night, I forget wether it was here or Facebook that said "Oh god, Ponti has scored, the Ponticelli first team Brigade will be insufferable now".......So fucking what ? There's a lot of fans that know we've got a talented lad that there's a good chance we won't have around for long so they want him to do well ? What's wrong with that ? We've all seen what happened with Maddison, Id love to actually see the stat of how many first team league games he started before we sold him, and now he's tearing up the Championship, so too right if our fans want to see one of our hot prospects playing.

Instinctive finisher.......don't we prefer headless chickens ala Morrell, McNutly, ROD etc?

Yes, playing for us though.

McNulty a headless chicken? I don't think so m8.

He was unselfish for Ponticelli's goal last night and from what I've seen of him he's a fairly intelligent player too, goals will come.

Ponticelli put himself about a few times too last night, I don't think he's just a poacher either, works his socks off too.

Also, like the rendition of that Wifred Bony song, but for Ponticelli was ace.
Edit: Just found this quote from the lad in his interview from the Offal
He added: "It was a great feeling that the supporters were signing my name. It is quite impressive they managed to fit my surname in a song!"
Quality!

Pre season friendly. I said I think because I had a vague memory of his friends/family talking on social media about him scoring on his first team debut. Also I have no idea if he played since then.

In fact in hindsight I’m not sure it’s even close to right.

Awards coming his way already, good luck to him.

Exactly!
Ponticelli may be young and raw, but he's got to be better than Beavon, Biamou, Mcnulty and Vincenti.
Let's be honest, if Nazons goes back to wba in January, and jones gets sold or injured, we can kiss goodbye to promotion.
I'd certainly give ponty a good run between now and the transfer window opening in the new year, when we can address things.

Yup, he's the next Messi alright...
Were not asking for a Messi, just someone who can convert a chance in division 2, which let's be honest, is the lowest possible standard of football in the entire football league! Is that too much to ask?

So if we're making arbitrary comparisons of strikers, let's compare to Ian Wright, who didn't make his league debut until he was 22.

Or Callum Wilson, who was 21 when he made his breakthrough.

Or Garry mcsheffrey who was 16. And playing in the top flight.
Or Adam Armstrong who was 18 and playing div 1
I might point out that the 2 players you quoted were not playing in division 2.
What part of Division 2 do you not understand?

Omfg, what are you on??? Enough is enough.

Better than Beavon,Biamou, McNulty and Vincenti?? Wtf? all you Ponticelli lovers I just don't get this....have I missed something? He maybe a natural goal scorer at under 18 football and under 23, but for me he shouldn't even be on the bench. He may well become a decent striker at league level in a couple of years but ffs he's not right now.

IMO he maybe a bully at development level, but I don't see it right now against League two defences.
He has no pace, still looks overweight and doesn't offer the team anything sounds harsh but sorry I see nothing in him.At best he will become the next Cody McDonald.

Biamou has been outstanding has defended from the front wins a lot headers just desperately needs a goal that his selfless running and commitment has deserved. McNulty will come good and I for one agree with Robbins sentiments on McNulty.

But honestly get a grip. We are doing very well indeed btw....especially when defending from the front.

Laughable desperate levels of cult heroship levels on a kid who imo has no outstanding attribute at this moment.

What part of it being utterly ridiculous to pluck random players out the air and compare them to someone else in terms of development don't you understand?

Hell, what age did Pele make his debut, perhaps we can compare Ponticelli to him?

Or maybe Puskas?

Or Eusebio?

@Londonccfcfan, I won't comment on the rest of your post because that's your opinion but to say he has 'no pace' is quite frankly laughable. Have you ever seen him play? What are you basing it on?

He's played about 70 minutes of senior football and scored a goal so I don't understand how you can have the view he offers the team nothing based on such a small sample where he's done well when called upon?

Would you prefer them to someone like mickey Quinn who had no pace?
It's got fuck all to do with pace, it's about the ability to convert chances ffs.

I'm a season ticket holder and been to every away game apart from Grimsby.

He has average pace. Not in Wilson or Armstrong category.

Saw him vs Blackburn I think ordinary. Just my opinion. He has differentiating attribute.

Strikers also have to defend and perhaps that and other elements of his overall game require working on

You've got to be the thickest fuck on the internet!
Let me spell it out to you for the third time........
......, WE ARE IN DIVISION 2

What the fuck are you banging on about international class players for?
We are in the lowest standard of football in the football league ... don't you get it?
You don't have to protect good 19 year olds in division 2. It's hardly premier league.
