That's a bit misleading as under any government indirect tax will be worse for the lower end - you can't means test booze, fags fuel and VAT duties

Yes, but what it's really telling you is that we don't have a particularly progressive tax system in the UK. Too much tax is taken through consumption rather than taxing of company / individual income or unearned wealth which falls disproportionately on the poorest.

Considering it was May and her team who spoke about it to the newspapers, seems to me like an attempt to see who was leading it for sure, and low and behold they have confirmed it is Shapps, with the support of a few people who are ex-ministers who have it out for May after she replaced them.
Maybe that will change of course in the coming days and you might be right, but at this moment in time don't think she will be too worried at the moment, only because he doesn't really have the backing in the party.

However, this really isn't helping press on with Brexit which is what everyone wants. 6 Months have already been wasted by the Government, would be stupid to waste another month for a change of leadership, and then a possible change of approach, so everything that has been said so far, will then change, giving us even less time to make a deal.

Exactly, even all of this Labour stuff pushing for another general election. Everyone is sick and tired of voting for the same stuff. Let the government get on with it, and argue it out in parliament not in the press.

Shapps is the stalking horse to force the race, if he gets it started others will throw their hat in the ring but he needs to get a vote of no confidence in May for that to happen.
He has 30 odd votes declared and no doubt a number who have not shown their hand but he needs 159 votes, that's a long way to go.

You are right about the time wasting and lack of direction with Brexit. The Sun claims it is the drunkard Juncker and the Dandy Barnier who are holding up Brexit. It is quite clearly the collapsing Tory party who are at fault. May is being made to look ineffective by people like BoJo as a tactic for their own ambitions. A sorry state at this crucial time.

Have only really taken up an interest in politics in the last year, but from this thread and a couple others I have seen largely Labour support.
Just look at this thread, I have only seen 3/4 people support conservative, the rest were labour or labour leaning.

Next sort out EU citizens rights and put forward a workable solution to the Irish border problem.

It's not great is it. Gun to my head I would go for Rees-mogg mainly due to the fact he is very clever and believes in the process. Also the social media and press campaign around him is quite phenomenal and is gathering moggmentum as they say.

They do have a clue Mart but they can't please everyone. 18 out of he 25 member of the cabinet are or were remainers. Trouble is the country voted to leave. There is a massive disconnect and these cabinet members don't want to leave the EU. That's the problem. It makes Mays position impossible and have therefore made here look inept and weak. I think she is anyway personally as her stint as home sec wasn't good by any means.

It's quite obvious the EU are stalling. Major unreasonable demands are deliberate because they are trying to please 27 countries. Impossible. And they know full well the longer this goes on for and the deadline gets nearer to march 2019 we will be forced to accept a deal. Good tactics by the EU to be fair but if it backfires then they lose.

Well that's his view and he is entitled to it. Many will disagree with it but I respect his faith and his opinion. I highly highly respect he has been honest and didn't lie about it either. Very rare these days.
