I'm not sure what you expect to achieve, you were the only one to bring in race to the debate. I mentioned those in power who knew, MP's, Police, Social Workers, highly likely they were mostly all white males I would have thought.

It doesn't matter, if you are rich, poor, black, white, muslim, christian or anything inbetween, If you abuse a child or knowingly allow it continue, then you should feel the full force of the law. As I mentioned earlier, I would seriously consider bringing back the death penalty.

if that's the case then I have to give May credit for not giving in to the 2 or 3 dozen multi millionaire hardliners in her party who quite clearly couldn't give a fuck about the rest of us and would quite happily pursue policies which would cause real hardship for whole swathes of the country.

It was always going to happen. Imagine what is going to happen once we are outside and trying to forge trade deals with countries like the USA and China.

Some of the comments online are brilliant.

One guy suggested that this will result in united Ireland which will then domino into Scottish and Welsh independence. London will then build a wall around the M25 and declare itself independent and all will re join the EU. This will result in them becoming ghettos and weirdly "suburbs of Brussels" while England will become rich from all its new trade deals (presumably selling scones). The newly independent countries and London will then ask to re join England but will be told no as it won't be in our best interest to have these lefty types ruining our paradise.

Yup. My dislike of Conservatism is tempered by the fact that May is at least (relatively!) moderate, and (reasonably!) keen to do her best by the country, rather than her paymasters.

I suspect that in her head, the notion of having an equivalent regulatory regime to that of Dublin (as in the EU) is abhorrent as it almost gives some sense of a united Ireland. So even if it is against the best interests of the people of N.I. she would vote against it.

Foster is an English name. Oh that’s not her maiden name you might say. You’re right, her maiden name is Kelly. Wholly Irish and predominantly Catholic which can only really lead you to one conclusion. Her family converted to the Protestant faith and most likely during the potato famine to receive the kings shilling as it was known. She’s as Irish as they come, Scotland has nothing to do with her unless her family left Ireland to return at some point later. In which case she’s still as Irish as they come, Northern Irish but still from the Ireland. What you’ve done is the equivalent of telling someone of Indian heritage and their ilk to move back to Pakistan. It’s ignorance of the highest level.

You then bring hard brexit into it as if you somehow understand where she is coming from. You don’t. She needs a hard brexit. The face of Northern Ireland is changing, the Catholic faith has caught up the Protestant faith in terms of numbers and set to pass and now you have the scenario where a large portion of the Protestant faith especially in the border counties like Fermanagh where she is from rely on the south for trade and work would rather see a united Ireland than lose their livelihood which is what a hard brexit with a border in Ireland could do. She won’t accept a border with the rest of the U.K. because she knows ultimately where that is going, so she’s fighting to remain British. Regardless of the costs. She knows the feeling on the ground, she’s not stupid. Especially the feeling in her own constituency and she’s fighting to save her identity.

That’s Northern Ireland I’m afraid. Identity is at the centre of everything to a very large portion of the population regardless of what they call themselves. As we’re about to find out. I say we’re but personally I always knew and it was one of the major reasons I voted remain, I could see the trouble it’s going to cause in Northern Ireland and it’s with no pleasure (given it’s my family who are going to be effected by this) my fears are looking to not be misplaced.

Reading this UK and EU fail to strike Brexit talks deal really shows what a mess we’re in over brexit. The only sensible way forward to me would be a second referendum on the type of brexit we have with a simple in out of the single market, customs union and everything else that goes with it. This has been the problem since day one. The government never received a mandate from anyone on what brexit means. It’s starting to get beyond stupid now and I can’t believe anyone voted for this.

Didn't Tony vote Labour at the last election after reading the manifestos? I'm sure you were recently complaining about people attacking each other as well, yet are now attempting to insult someone with the lowest insult of them all.

I reckon the whole thing today has been for show and is May's way of looking like she has won some hard fought battles, but ultimately NI will remain within the customs union. It's both sides way of working together and selling it without looking like the UK has rolled over and preventing the government and a deal collapsing.
