Not so much gone at you from the off but We shouldn’t have stood off so much first half. Gave you far too much space and time especially on the wings. You always had an easy out ball.
Second half we much better. Pushed a little higher and in final 20 went after you with greater confidence and commitment.

I thought we looked very nervous in the first half, too many players wanted rid of the ball but Brighton closed us down very quickly which didn’t allow us to play. The goal gave us confidence to push forward but I don’t think anything would have changed the result to be honest

I thought we played with some pride this afternoon, but were beaten by a much better team who scored two very well taken headers. I'm not sure about Brighton's expensive new striker, but their no.11 Knockaert, who completely gave us (Barrett) the run around, will be going into my fantasy football team.

The 2nd half was much better...their new striker will end up a flop and with their run in...good luck ;)

Just got back.enjoyable day but totally outclassed from start to finish. That isn’t a gripe against the boys but Brighton were much much better than we were. McNulty and JCH worked well but had scraps to feed on all day. Both grimmer and Haynes had tough days and had little cover from their forward counterparts which Brighton exposed a lot. Losing two headed goals was disappointing but couldn’t believe that our fans were getting on the back of Burge for them, he had no chance but our defense were second best most of the day.

No shame in the expected defeat, they worked hard all game but the gulf in class was very showing. Good luck to Brighton in the next round (they will need it) but they were great hosts.

was in corporate area in the west stand (great view) and Burge had no chance with either!

Initial thoughts;

1) The difference between Man City (88% passing accuracy) and Brighton seems to be about the same as Brighton (85% passing) and Coventry. Brighton were never in our game v Man City in much the same way.
2) It is probably wise not to press Brighton as you would have ended up chasing shadows (completely different from playing Stoke).
3) You would need a couple of big centre halves to stop the headed goals.
4) Bayliss and Clarke-Harris looked the most ablest.
5) Brighton still miss good chances and can't defend corners.

Stopped at the garage on the M27 to get fuel and a 7 series red BMW pulls in and Jack Grimmer and Vicente get out so had a chance to speak to Grimmer whilst Vicente went for a slash etc.

I asked jack if he was ok and he said yep not problems the boss just wanted to protect me for Saturday's game, he said Robbins was doing his head in as he kept asking if he was ok to carry on playing all the time I asked how Doyle was getting on and he said he wanted to play but Robbins said that he is not risking him likewise he said he will defiantly play on Saturday as well

I thought Clarke-Harris had a very good game. Put himself about well, won fouls, took his chance when it came. If we can get the ball to him then he should get goals in league 2. Better in the air than I thought he was too.

Barett however is an embarrassment, man should be set to fat camp.
I think that Barrett has a problem with his hip as he does not seem to move as freely as would have expected. He bottled one tackle today and also had a cast iron chance to shoot at goal but pulled his leg out as the tackle was coming in. The lad seems to not have confidence that he is over the injury he suffered before he came to us

We will need a lot of luck. Thanks for your nice comments as well.
Do I want to go to a stadium where I will be pushed up in the gods and watch a load of ants running around who play for my team. To sit in a ground that has many "home" tourist supporters, not keen.
After a lovely day I am deflated at the thought of Manure away, if that sounds ungrateful after the trials this club has been through overy the last 20 years, then I am guilty, now Swansea or Southampton would have got me more excited.

That’s why they premiership footballers. They do usually tend to be bigger stronger fitter and much much quicker man for man.

This is the same team that was spending 30 million a year in the championship on their squad, year after year to get promoted.
Err no, many teams were but Brighton were very low spenders in the Championship. In our last couple of seasons we brought Duffy 4m, Knocky 1.5m, Murray 3m and a couple of others for small fees, Murray and Duffy were rested today
When we reached the promised land l as st summer, THEN we spent 13m on Isqueirdo (who was not in the squad today) and 15 on Locadia who made his debut today. In short the money has been spent this season.

4,335 Coventry fans, the second highest number of away supporters at the Amex after Arsenal, 4,449. Crowd 26,966.

Brighton spent about £5 million a year (net) in the Championship on players. FFP prevented spending any more. It did not stop a few clubs spending more though. In the last two years the spending limit increased to £39 million over 3 years but only of the owner converted the extra dosh to equity/shares. I don't think any of the clubs outside the Premier League can afford to buy players when the parachute payments run out. That is why Derby, Forest and Leeds are still stuck in the second tier. Wages are crippling enough without buying success on a gamble to go up. Wages in the Championship often equals the total income of the clubs.

After Brighton failed to get promotion in 2013-14, they had to sell players to balance the books with predictable results of a bad season in 2014-15.

I remember Coventry going up with new infrastructure in 1967. Brighton made it 50 years later which is a long time to wait. Late seventies promotion to Division 1 was a false dawn.

Chief Commentator!
Chin up.
LFC were at the Amex a month or so back, totally outplayed us, then Chelski who had Hazard worth more than our team that day. They outclassed us.
This result may be a blessing in disguise for you, league 1 with promotion is the best option, the cup is a distraction.

Thank you, more so for just putting ‘chin’ rather than ‘chins’ :)

I agree; I want us to, and we also need to lose the distraction of the cup and concentrate on our league games. The last three games tell me that the players have been distracted and yesterday proved it. Even though we struggled we were still better than we have been in the past three league games. Just hope we can take some of that effort into our game one saturday

Good luck with your fight in the premiership

Weren't you racking up silly high losses?

Some of you guys who've posted in this thread might be interested to know Andy Whing has just returned to the Club as part of the Academy coaching set up. I gather he was popular down there for a season or two.

I actually over-estimated the amount spent on transfer fees (net) as up to 2015-16 the Brighton & Hove Albion Accounts said "the desire to retain players meant that profit from player sales fell £7.5 million from £8.7 million to just £1.2 million." losses accrued mostly because of the high wages in the Championship, as well as depreciation in the value of players "player amortisation (the annual cost of transfer fees) also rose £1.4 million (60%) from £2.4 million to £3.8 million," and depreciation in the value of the new stadium, building of the training ground, improvements to the Amex and costs of running the stadium.

Or chelsea. And plastics.
Was walking around the supermarket this morning and saw a chelsea ‘fan’ in his polo shirt, strolling about happy as larry
For some reason it really wound me up this mornin, really got to me.
In my minds eye i tipped his trolley over, kicked his groceries about, and asked him if he was lost and needed directions to cov station and the times of the euston trains.
What actually happened was i walked passed him without incident

That was probably one of the best modern grounds I’ve been to! Great day out, not as good as MK though.

Thought Clarke-Harris had a great game and was physical and linked play.

It's a quality ground, isn't it? Having seen us play against them at the Withdean and now as a PL club definitely gives me hope for the future and that we'll get turned around, eventually.

I enjoyed my day out at the AMEX Stadium yesterday. Just a few thoughts.
I thought the stadium was great. You could see that the stadium certainly belonged to B and HA with all of the pictures and Brighton paraphernalia all the way around. This is something we have never really had at the Ricoh and possibly never will now. We have a few Neanderthals who attach themselves to the club and travel to the bigger games. However the atmosphere was really relaxed around the ground. I wouldn’t always feel comfortable wearing my Sky Blue scarf at some away venues but never felt unwelcome at all yesterday. Brighton fans, the police and the stewards were all friendly and helpful. My son pointed out how many children, families and females there were among your support, and that the place has a real community feel to it. I thought it was great that some of your fans went to the trouble they did of making and bringing into the stadium the huge Sisu Out banner displayed at the end of the game. Well done to them. We had intended using the park and ride from Brighton Racecourse but due to traffic problems on the way down we would have missed the last bus to the ground. We therefore headed to the stadium to see if we could find somewhere to park. The traffic from 4 miles out was horrendous and we arrived at a crawl. Eventually found our way to the Bridge Carpark ( £15 to park!). This would be the one criticism of the stadium, the road system and places to park.
I enjoyed the game which was always going to be a long shot with regard to a City win. I disagree with a lot of comments on here as I think Brighton played with a very high intensity and were not therefore in second gear. I think Bruno’s reaction, the Brighton captain, to our goal shows how hard they were trying. I left this game today feeling more optimistic for our chances for the rest of the season than walking away from Colchester on Tuesday. I felt we did give it a go in the second half and that Clark-Harris looks like he could be the missing link.
I hope Brighton stay up. I think your story is the closest to ours and gives hope that once Sisu are gone we might start to claw our way back.

I don't think I said that Brighton played in second gear, they didn't. Reserves were trying to prove they are worthy of a first team place. They are as bad as the first team at getting complacent and slapdash when leading though. Quite a few Albion players were noticeably out of real match practice after returning from the long term injuries; Ulloa, Baldock, Goldson, Kayal, Locadia did not look up to scratch at times. Bruno is a first team player returning from injury.

Traffic problems mean it is usually best to add an hour on your expected journey whether by train or car. It is not just traffic for the football, it is congested roads full stop. Sometimes it grinds to a halt entirely. I tried to warn Coventry supporters that it is necessary to arrive at Brighton station a minimum an hour before scheduled KO. Queues were not nearly as bad as usual but fans still arrived at Brighton station only 40 minutes before KO and would have missed the start if it was not delayed. You were were lucky to find the Bridge car park not full up.

PS: Come on Rochdale! 1-0. Spotland is one of the grounds I've been to.

I had a look on the Mancs board around about the time of the draw last night.
They were delighted with the draw and are already talking about who they want in the semi final. I wonder whether Hughton will put out a full strength team......TBH I would love to beat them with the players that have played in the cup games....beat em, I am a dreamer.

Dreamer or not I’m sure most neutrals will be hoping you do a job on them. What houghton is good at is organising his teams so you have a chance.

The traffic was bad but was multiplied because of the engineering works which meant no trains westbound from Brighton.
I never travel by car and I suspect that many of the thousands that travel in from the west do not either.
Our chairman "Uncle Tony" was also in the slow traffic on the A27 travelling in from the west.

Traffic was bad but not helped by the University open day. That must cause chaos on it's own. Thanks for the tip on leaving plenty of time, but still only arrived an hour before. Found a lovely free place to park for 4 hours in Falmer village (what a beautiful place that must've been before the A27, and still is.)

Great ground, polite stewards, friendly folk, apart from the score, whats not to like.

Stop serving chicken food in the concourse at 1pm though, whats that about?

Falmer village is where the Swan pub is very near the Uni entrance. It is a home pub, was not in the first part of the first season. First game many Donny supporters were with us and Blackpool a few games later, unfortunately the less respectable supporters from a few clubs which you could probably guess, spoiled it and so pretty soon it was home only fans.
Interestingly before the ground was built the landlord said the ground would be built over his dead body.....it was and his sons are doing a roaring trade, opening up a barn outside in the process. Up to 500 supporters on matchdays. Nice old pub with beams etc in a quaint village, and a stones throw from the ground.

Just watched the highlights on Match of the day. Haynes should have cut the cross out for the first-got his legs in a muddle and the ball went under him. Ham maybe should have done better aswell.
Haynes also got out of jail just after when Locardia ran past him and put it wide but thought he'd put his hand up instead and appeal for offside.
And to think people want this joker in the side!

Enjoyed the game.
Firstly I hope Coventry get promoted and your eyes are now just on one aim.
From a BHA point of view it was pleasing to see a totally different defence and first starting appearances this season from Ulloa and Locadia.
I had BHA to win 3-1 with LoCadiz and Ulloa scoring, so I am happy.
Very decent and fair comments on the whole of this thread, good suppo r t from your fans, though miffed at your going down chants at the end.....hope you are wrong.
Good luck to you Skyblues.
Never in doubt. Well done.
Best of luck for next season.

Going down my arse lol :)
