Bought this the other day as well. Sitting top of League 2 at the moment with only 2 defeats all season. Not exactly scoring for fun, sounds like it would be worth going 4-3-3?

3 consecutive promotions with a straight forward 4-4-2. Now in the PL with a £35 million budget which doesn't cover the sides of what is necessary to make the team competitive, but so far so good. Takeover in L2 allowed me some good freebies to add year on year. Couldn't get 4-3-3 to work although it's meant to be a goal trigger.

A former footballer tried to get a takeover together but it fell through, so looks like I'm stuck with Fisher for the time being.

Conor Townsend and Matt Kennedy were wingers on free transfers in my L1 season to keep an eye out for, about 40 assists between them. Quite funny that 4-4-2 was so effective after all the time fucking around with more elaborate formations.

I've managed to get us consecutive promotions and we are now back in the Championship and treading water, just! There was a hard Brexit and it's a nightmare with work permits, I've even managged to sign a couple of v decent players on frees but they were both denied work permits and are unable to play at the moment.

I got the worst version of Brexit on it but once in the Premier League it doesn't seem to hurt you as much as conditional work permits seem to be a bit more freely given out. I had to disable it completely in 17 as it completely ruined my Cov save, I might do it again in this when I start my next game.

I suspect that I have the worst version of it as well, it really is a nightmare!! Even if a player has been signed and you're paying wages, is a work permit likely to be denied the 2nd time around (180 days after the first attempt)?

Hard luck with that. I seemed to get a nasty Brexit as well which didn't help so just had to stick to British freebies and loans.

Not sure, if they fail the first appeal I tend to just cancel the transfer as I don't trust they'll ever get signed up properly.

I can't sign any European players but somehow managed to get a 17 year old Argentinian kid who scored a load of goals which lead to me finishing 2nd in the championship. Getting offered £25m for him now but no way I'm selling. Straight promotions from league 2 to the championship and then a year of consolidation before going up to the prem, really worried now though that I'm going to get tanked cos I've still got squad players from league 2.

I'm in January 2020 and midtable in the Championship during our first season back at that level. The squad has a lot of our league 2 squad players but doing okay but massively inconsistent. Beating the top teams and then losing to a bottom 3 team the next week. Saying that though, we've done the double over Sunderland, beating them 5.0 at home and 4.0 away :D

Im too cheap to buy the latest versions of FM. usually pick up the year previous version on CDKeys for peanuts and download updated databases to make it up to date from Sortitoutsi.

Currently playing as Salford City. scraped them into the football league and signed James Maddison on a free

Loving it, was able to get a load of that good england U17s squad on a free. Brewster is a goal machine

have Scott McTominay from Man U who is class

Been playing FM14 atm after buying it along with FM15, 17 and 18 from Dover Athletic for peanuts!

Probably why I haven't posted on here for a while. Happy New year!

Still playing FM17 on my Salford City save file.
I was doing so well, consecutive promotions from Vanarama North to the Championship.
But now I’m in preseason and the hardest possible Brexit scenario has fucked me. I can only sign UK nationals and internationals who have played X amount of games for a top national team.
Was just about tenable for League 2 & 1 as I hoovered up Prem/Champ youth team cast offs.
I just can’t attract the caliber of player I need to compete in the Championship.
On paper my team isn’t too shabby but a bunch of these are ageing or not as good as their real life counterparts:

GK. Freddie Woodman

CB. Mancienne

CB. Needed

RB. Jonjoe Kenny

LB. Needed

DM. Fabien Delph

CM. Nick Powell

AM. James Maddison (no way as good as he should be)

RW. Sullay Kaikai

LW. Jodi Jones (forgot about him! probably my best player)

ST. Needed

Subs:
Scott McTominay
Rhian Brewster
Joel Latibeaudiere
Jack Redshaw (had him since day one, scored 30+ every year but is ageing and surely can’t do it again)

wish there was a way to remove Brexit after you have started a game

Yeah massively, you are randomly given a Brexit scenario from soft to Very hard.

The english league rules on bard brexit mean you can only sign british citizens or current international players who have played over half of that years games for a nation team high in the FIFA rankings.

I have never got an appeal to work. Might be ok in the Premier league but it rules out finding 18yr olds from footballing backwaters and developing them into a top star which for me is half the fun.

Also if you have foreign players signed before Brexit kicks in you have to sell or release them when their contracts come up if they dont fit the new rules.

Its fairly crippling especially in the Championship as young brits arent good enough and international stars are impossible to sign

That sucks. What database size did you choose, small, medium etc.?

Completed an Invincible season with Coventry, winning the Premier third year on the trot!
So I resigned and joined Chorley in the Skrill North League for a bit of fun.
I see I'm still regarded as a Favourite personnel on the Coventry Home screen, I'm pleased to say!

Large with players added from various nations.

I'm half in the mind to download the in-game editor and add eligibility to non British players that want to sign for me. I mean I didn't vote leave personally and it isn't gonna be as strict as the scenario I've been lumbered with

I am bit worried it'll ruin it for me long term tho, also having access to the in-game editor is a massive temptation to cheat!

I know so frustrating that you cant choose to reverse it. building up unknowns is the best bit of the games for me.

On mine Man City had to release Zinchenko as he was not eligible when his contract came up.

im trying to justify downloading the ingame editor as you can add trained in nation to sort of get around the issue but i dont think i can trust myself not to go crazy and add 100m to my funds :)

Actually this reminds me of some weird stuff that Hard Brexit seems to have glitched in my game.

players like Zinchenko just seem to be stuck in limbo not being able to get a club. not sure if its a conflict in their bios saying they prefer UK teams but obviously they cant come back and on top european teams want to touch them

another example was Thomas Lamar who went without a club for two seasons, just sat on the free list. not enough French Caps to sign for a UK club and no team in the EU wanting him. not realistic at all

It's nice that football manager has thought more about Brexit than the government.

Thing is in reality big bussiness will force through exemptions and use loopholes to keep the machine grinding on.

It would be ace if they do get unstuck, meaning top teams do have to use some of the British talent they have stockpiled in their academies... but that wont happen

I'm glad they put it in the game but personally im really depressed by Brexit, I wish they would let you to escape the grim realities of what is actually happening by switching it off or at least choose a softer option

Dunno what I was worried about. First game of the Championship went OK ☺

Picked up both Murphy twins on frees but most of my wages. Got Phil Foden on loan.

Trying to get the band back together but Armstrong ain't interested and Joe Cole is an old man

Hi,I'm an italian user...I'm driving Sky Blues into the Premeir League by winning all 3 League Two,League One and Championshpi (have won also Checkatrade Trophy in first season and lost 2-0 in FA Cup against Bournemouth last season, after beating Tottenham 3-1 in the 6th round and Manchester United 1-0 in semifinal),with many players still in the team from the first season (Grimmer,Willis,Haynes,Stevenson,Jones and Thomas, plus Jordan Turnbull returned from loan after the first season)
Now I'm preparing for the big challenge in Premier, and have signed some good players for free or low prices (Fekir and Charlie Austin for free the most important)
I'm using very simple formations (4-3-1-2 Offensive,4-4-2 Standard and 4-1-4-1 Counter Attack),no big scorers (McNulty 24 first season and 22 the second,Thomas 11-24-26 in the three years,Burkart 18 last season),but wingers that f***** up every opponent (Jodi Jones 15-15-14 goals, much more than assists on the left,Samuelsen and Kaikai above 20+ assists from the right)

This is my current squad, ready for the first PL match against Middlesbrough

I found tihis 18 edition very easy to play, isnt'it?

If Jordan Turnbull is valued at €12.75m the value of the Euro must have taken an absolute battering.
