I’d drop Broad give the rest a kick up the backside too many in a comfort zone!

That would send shockwaves through the clique, he is a real problem as he believes he is far better than he really is. I don’t care about his 400 wickets time allows you to get a lot of them and his longevity is not down to his ability just his membership of club England

Agree, he turns up once a summer or tour he always has and lives off it til the next time!

so wood out for Woakes. Hope it's a bowling decision and not lengthening the tail.
Good luck Sam Curran

Jeez he's frustrating. Bowling beautifully.
When's he's on it he is some bowler.
Don't know whether it's rhythm or he just needs to get in the mood - a real chalk and cheese player.

So we get one terrible performance and one decent performance and then no test cricket until August. So you can guarantee it will be the same old faces in the side and the cycle continues.

no Test cricket until August?? Hadn't realized - just ridiculous.
So Div 1 sides have about 3 4 day games between now and India series and rest is one day cricket. Just a nonsense.

Yep and about 5 rounds in September with the season finishing a few days shy of October!

so let's be honest a decent chance the likes of Bairstow, Buttler, Broad, Malan and a few others will probably see a maximum of 1 4-day game before the India series.
That's just outstanding planning & management!!!

My day of lying of lying on the sofa watching the test looks like its buggered. Forecast shows today is likely to be a washout.

You’ll get half a day at least. Bess once again showing the top order how to hold a bat.

Do you stick with Malan? Or is it time to blood someone like Joe Clarke from Worcester?

The obvious commentary:
"Malan is batting wonderfully .... oh he's out".

Making hard work of today, can see this ending in a draw
With all the time lost today England should have been batting for most of tomorrow.

There’s every chance they’ll be out before lunch with the lead only about 150. If Pakistan get their act together in the second innings things could get very interesting.

Decent cricket mainly.
Woakes & Malan did get good balls.
Love Broad bitching. Far too inconsistent - awful lot of 3-4 wicket matches in last 20 odd Tests. Hard to believe he was ranked no. 1 in 2016. Still someone with surprisingly few 5w hauls for an opening bowler.
Pleased for Bess but it still should be 80+% about how he bowls rather the Batting.
Hopefully Buttler can survive 1st few overs this time and then could push onto a healthy advantage. Curran can bat a bit as well.

You can generally guarantee we'll lose 2-3 quick wickets at the start of play.
Let's hope tomorrow is different.

Buttler batted exactly how a no.7 should and for once had something of a platform to build from.
Scored 80 of the 150ish last 5 wickets put on.
Built sensibly with the better batsmen and took control with the tail.
Now that's Test match batting.

Graham Thorpe: Producing Test batsmen is becoming tougher

at least they are looking at the roots of the problem.
But anyone care to take a bet that there's an overpaid sports psychologist involved with the Test side who obviously isn't earning their money

Amazing Thorpe has appeared and the batsman pick up maybe part of the problem is ramprakash (just waiting for cc4fl to say a racist call), Thorpe excellent resilient batsman ramprakash the opposite

Had forgotten he was batting coach.
There was a player with natural ability but often questionable temperament. Often got a start but poor conversion rate

Him and Hick, both averaged under 32 madness for their ability and scores in county cricket!

What's been interesting last 2 days is how Sky have examined (and proven) where fielding & bowling problems have been. Slip corden gaps, Anderson & Broad seem to have forgotten what bowling brought them success.
The piece on Anderson's bowling lengths seemed obvious & simple but the actual data on how effective he was on good & full compared to short is staggering.
Showing how they've been going into containment mode rather than attacking explains a lot including their Ashes.
Obvious question is why has it taken so long to id and why haven't the coaching staff picked up on it with all their specialist coaches & analysts
