Summer Recruitment (4 Viewers)

I think Grimmer is worth persevering with as he is quite young. Yesterday Exeter focused on the Shipley / Stokes side rather surprisingly, because nobody says Bayliss is good at defensive cover.

Assuming Bayliss stays, our midfield contenders would be Jones, Andreu, Kelly Doyle, Shipley and Bayliss for 4 places made up of a holding mid-fielder, an attacking midfielder, a defensive minded flank midfielder and a genuine winger. So I suggest we start with Jones, Kelly, Andreu and Shipley and flog Bayliss for as much as poss with Doyle joining the coaching staff and / or back up

However, for all his ability to break down defences I just wonder whether Jones's individuality hampers the team ethic

Fingers crossed that Robins is backed in the Summer and we can have a real go at building on this momentum. For SISU, is there much difference, financially, between owning a L1 club or a L2 club? I have no idea about the answer to that last question, but I would imagine that for SISU to recoup some of their outlay we need to get back to the Championship.

Needs to go:

Vincenti
Haynes
JCH (has not lived up to expectations despite having it all to prove)
LOB

By and large most of those who started yesterday deserve a crack next season and I wouldn't want to make wholesale changes. The big question mark though is whether Doyle can keep it up for another season at a higher level. We need someone else in the middle a la Vincelot should things go south for him.

Need to get:

Understudy LB/RB
Gritty CM
A better JCH

Andreu when fit should have nice competition with Kelly for the CM slot and Jones can relieve Bayliss of his suffering on the right. It also goes without saying but McNulty and Bayliss must be retained at all costs.

Am i the only one who thinks keeping hold of McNulty is unlikely? Don't get me wrong i'd love him to stay but with the season he's had and our propensity for selling anything thats not nailed down........................

Unless he signs a new contract, by my reckoning, he’ll only have a year left. I think him being sold is a distinct possibility.

You would have to think Sunderland would be strong and maybe Barnsley too. After that, possibly Bradford, Portsmouth, Charlton. Be interesting to see how the other promoted clubs do too.
would like to play Sunderland 3rd or 4th game of the season and give them a rogering on their on muck heap! that should keep the fans zone website buzzing all season

It could be very interesting this Summer.
We could get a nice windfall from Maddison & maybe Wilson being sold if Sisu allow us to have any funds.

Maybe Doyle can persaude/threaten him in to staying................................ #Doasyourefackingtold

Here’s hoping! Coincidentally I’ve just been reading the write up of the game in the guardian. It suggests that Doyle was instrumental in getting mcnulty to sign...bombarding him with texts, phone calls etc. I’d not heard that before.
I think Doyle would be the last person I’d want ‘on my case’.

McNulty said so on camera in his post-match interview. The squad does seem to be a pretty happy little unit and that counts for a lot. Might just work in our favour, especially if Robins is backed with a little bit of cash.

Ah, I haven’t caught up with the interviews yet.
There does seem to a real bond amongst them. I think getting them mostly signed up on longer contracts help players feel more settled.

just my humble opinion but i fear the best we can do with Bayliss is for him to be back on a one year loan deal - just can't see a biggish team not snapping him up for their future ala Maddision and Norwich. I think he is a real talent, McNulty, will surely get an offer from a lower league championship outfit such as a Bolton/ Rotherham, etc, that will be an acid test for me cos replacing his goals won't be remotely easy. beyond that and again my humble opinion, a new keeper, possibly 2 new full backs but certainly a left back would be the basics, Andreu and Jones will be like 2 new signings as such. not sure on JCH but I thought a deal was in place anyway?

I cannot see us being able to get a better No 2 keeper than LOB, so I would stick with him.

Vincente came highly rated, something hasnt been right, and now he is on crutches. He either has been carrying an injury that has now has surgery, or Doyler has explained that he needs to up his game.

I think (hope) that he will be a lot better next season.

Grimmer will continue to improve, but we need competition for his place, like Stokes and Haynes. Young from Crawley looked good.

Kyel Reid needs a "play with the right attitude or don't get paid" contract.

I was so excited when we signed Vincenti. He was immense at Rochdale but have only seen tiny glimpses of that form since he's been here. Pretty sure he has had surgery though so would be interesting to see what happens now. He costs little so id be inclined to keep him until January and reassess at that point.

Wouldn't be a bad deal really if he went to a high champ/middling prem team and then got loaned back to us for a full season. As long as its all done and dusted early in the summer window so that he can just focus on a full pre-season as part of the squad then it shouldn't affect him or us too much and we can put the cash to good use. I think realistically we know we won't keep him long term so that might be about the best scenario. What i really don't want to see is Bayliss sign for someone else and they then send us their dregs on loan, as per the Wilson to Bournemouth deal. It destabilises the squad and just reminds the fans constantly that we traded a good player for someone elses cast offs.

Jayden Stockley would be top of my shopping list this summer. A strike force of Stockley and McNulty would be a force in L1.

In fact I’d raid a few from Exeter Pym, Boateng and Stockley.

Is Pym really any better than what we have? Exeter conceded 54 goals to our 47 over the season.

He’s a highly rated young keeper that can potentially grow with us, I’m not saying he’s a replacement for Burge but could add competition should MR opt to move on O’Brien.

Needed additions:
Starting LB - Stokes isn't quick enough.
Backup RB
CDM - One with more passing ability than Kelly. That Boateng from Exeter looked alright, wouldn't mind him. Would give us 3 guys that we can rotate in the 2 positions.
Starting RM
LM to compete with Shipley

Be Interesting to see if MR reverts back to his favoured 4231 or stick with the 442 system now.

To me 4231 don’t suit McNulty, I think he’s better in a 442 off a target man.

Hopefully quality wingers are on the shopping list

Don't we say that every year? :D We've never been overly blessed with wingers of any sort of quality.

I think something like the first game of Mowbrays tenure would be fitting, a la Millwall away!! B-)

McNulty always needs to play alongside someone IMO. Without that extra support from someone doing the dirty work his talents are wasted.
