Compare luton and Sunderland and the only thing Luton has going for it is standard of football. Add CCFC into the equation and, lets be honest here, out of the 3, (lets also throw Bristol City in too-rumored to have spoken to him) Sunderland- better ground, training facilities, fans in attendance, wages available to offer and also potential to play Championship football season after this.
This is a better move than to Luton for him by a country mile if we are looking at his life in general.

Bang on. Championship teams dont always deliver Championship experience. Sunderland is a good punt at furthering your career as well as delivering short term returns.

I think I agree that Willis is excellent at this level and hyam is good with the potential to be very good

The thing with Willis is that he's consistently good. Very unusual for him to have a stinker. That's a rarity at this level.

Slightly pissed off he left to progress his career, to me it seems like his agent promised him a championship club and failed to deliver ohwell hyam is far more reliable as a centre half and this Morgan Williams can be something special in the near future just hope willis is injured for the cov games otherwise he will be in for a lot of stick because well you know our fans.

I think we have just as much chance if not a better chance if going up than Sunderland tbh, Sunderland have lost a lot of players and have failed to replace them, there lad leaving in January last season cost them promotion and they are yet to replace him.

Oh well, seems he’s gone for the money then. Some good memories but also was part of that garbage team team which got relegated to L2 which some people seem to forget-his stock was at his lowest but people commend him for being loyal for some reason.

The first couple of yards is in the head, you don't always need pace to deal with pace. As long as you don't drop back 5 yards deeper than everyone else like that useless Scottish centre half we had a few years ago. Name escapes me...

Exactly this. Pace is obviously a massive asset but it isn’t vital and can be mitigated by good positioning and footballing intelligence. By all accounts McFadzean has a lot of experience and while slow, I don’t expect him to be caught for pace.

We all know his main attribute is his pace and this got us out of trouble at times however with Robins wanting to play the ball out from the back, I feel that in Hyam and Mcfadzen we have better ball playing defenders albeit slower
Teddy Sherringham didn’t have pace but his footballing brain got him the better of much quicker defenders.
The same with Hyam and Mcfadzen.

You also have to take into account personal life etc. Not sure how diverse Sunderland is. Not as much as Coventry I suspect.

Lee Burge is up there and they have played together many years so that will help him settle, dont underestimate the lure of a friendly face.

Look how many came from Portsmouth to us, for example. I would imagine that was a similar situation for Portsmouth fans.

He had the build of a heavy weight boxer but always felt he was a bit soft could easily get bullied and on a few occasions he made very costly howlers and costly sending offs. I don't think he's much better than championship level don't see him making it in the premier league

It's not like he announced a pre-planned move to Sunderland the morning after our season finished, he's clearly been trying to get a higher move. If in the end, despite a couple of trials, he couldn't get a championship team, what should he have done? Force his family to move abroad? Gone to Wimbledon or Accrington? Or join the biggest, highest paying other club in our division.

You forgot the very obvious other option. Sign the deal he had on the table with us? As somone said earlier money talks tho.

I didn't forget that, the deal was gone as soon as the season ended. Robins said as much in one of his interviews - that they shook hands at the end of the season and that was that. He wanted a Championship club and didn't get it for reasons we don't know. He's taken the next best option.

Sunderland are a much better bet for promotion than us, just as Sheff Utd were when Fleck left.

Whilst he's obviously getting more money he has also joined a currently bigger club than us, don't see how that's lacking ambition.

They finished 20 points above us. They they have strengthend their defence, they have players like Will Grigg (who they spent £3m on in Jan) who will get a full season and they are still after more players.
