Imagine living in a foreign country working a shitty job on minimum wage. Worried about you family back home in Italy or Spain when someone gives you this.
They're live in staff as well so lose their accommodation and, according to the news reports earlier, some can't even travel back to their home countries because of restrictions.


That’s the one- one of the employees was interviewed, he is Spanish & literally had to spend the night in a tent as he’s skint and stranded here. And the hotel itself was only about 20% occupied.

When I took the mat cover they gave me the option of going back to my old role. I had done it for 4 years and was of the opinion that someone else might do a different job...fresh pair of eyes and all that. And I had done it for 4 years so was ready for a new challenge.

The colleague that I'm covering for is coming back end of May and theres a freeze on recruitment. Pre-Corona, I was confident that I'd be fine. Now I'm not certain and have been told by one boss to consider looking externally. A bit worrying to be honest.

I have thanks Astute and have discussed it with my wife. Going to see what happens and go down that route if needs be.

I don't want to take away from others more in need so will see how the next few weeks play out.

I haven’t said a single word about that because I don’t know enough about it, the details etc. I also haven’t bashed that one single bit because the more help the better. My issue was/is the communication and disjointedness of our approach, and the fact we are woefully underprepared while he blusters away. I’m not labour by the way, I dislike all of them.

Surprise surprise he's a non taxpayer who since 1999 has been registered as living in Austria for tax-purposes. And to top it all off he made a decent chunk of his fortune off taxpayers money by housing asylum seekers in the hotels.

He isn't the expert here. Yet it us all supposed to be about what he decides unless it is good. Then suddenly where is the money supposed to come from ti help people.

I think you’ll find I’ve done plenty of expert bashing and said more than once that Corbyn would be awful and is coming across very badly during all this. Apparently the chancellor is coming across well but I can’t comment on that either. But you have to call a spade a spade, Johnson has hardly come across well.

I had submitted a proposal (pre coronavirus) about extending our department by one as I think theres more we can do in terms of new business etc. I think that can will be kicked down the road (which I understand) so I've said I'm happy to firefight with other positions that need filling.

Waiting to see what happens.

Like I said though...the main thing is that me, my wife and my boy are healthy. That's keeping me going!! More people in a lot worse situation. Chin up and all that.

I think your attitude is spot on in terms of firefighting and who wouldn’t want someone like that working with them. And you’re right- my kids don’t really understand it fully and are going stir crazy (we’ve been on lockdown for a while now), but when it gets really stressful at work they give me a bell and it’s all in perspective. This will pass and it might all be crap for a while, but life will go on & in 5 years we’ll all be worried about something else- long as our loved ones are ok then fine, we’ll deal with the rest somehow and grind through it.

Mate if you take a mortgage holiday you aren’t taking one off someone else. They’re infinite. The banks will be OK, we know they can’t fail. You’re a good un for the thought but Make sure you are OK. Hope it all works out for you dude and if you need a new mother taking out around mid April just say the word ;)

Same as there’s always a weird bloke at the football who calls players by their first name like he knows them.

I think one thing that the govt has done is well is psychologically sold the idea of an impending lockdown. If they've had gone balls first into lockdown on Monday, they'd have been massive push back and resentment (see Boris's dad's comment on going to the pub for example). But 5 days later, shutting pubs/clubs/etc is met with an 'about time' view.

They had to get buy-in to make it work. Lockdown is inevitable, it's just a matter of when. Yes, they'll still be the bravado brigade (copyright the name of my new band) but peer pressure will succeed.

You can argue about whether herd immunity was a tactic, whether they should have substituted social movements earlier, but I think we have the right set-up now (sorry, blatantly slipped into football cliches there...).

What Martin did takes the biscuit, I’m no lawyer but encouraging people to do something which could kill people feels dangerously close to criminal- he wants locking up.

I still haven’t seen what Morgan was saying, apart from when he said buying 3 weeks worth of shopping was entirely reasonable- but I can imagine what he’s been up to. He’s a parasite, built a career off the back of what others have done.

This argument has been made a few times and could be credible

Trouble is this thing has at least doubled in the vacuum between the two.

Problem with this theory (aside from it not fitting all the available explanations from multiple sources) is you’re talking about two different groups of people. Generally those saying “about time” are also those that have been saying we aren’t taking it seriously enough from day one.

This is the strategy SBD. I think it’s in the imperial report. There are two ends to this, vaccine or eventual herd immunity, via the suppression and then loosening of measures, followed by measures again (I don’t want to consider the third)

The key in the meantime appears to be the test that would confirm if you’ve had corona (not just if you’ve got it). If they can get this into circulation (and it’s found that you can’t subsequently infect post recovery or unlikely catch it again) then gradually more and more of the population can operate normally.

A lot of ifs and buts in there but from what the chief medical/scientific officers are saying that’s as good as it gets at the moment (in conjunction with finding drugs that better combat the virus - which will also be discovered no doubt)

You’re right. The ultimate goal is herd immunity but delivered through a combination of a controlled spread of the infection through periodically releasing social distancing controls at a rate that the NHS can manage the treatment of those infected, and the eventual use of vaccinations.

I don’t think there is any clear evidence to suggest that it can’t mutant regularly (two strains already), if so there is no guarantee that someone who’s had it can’t be infected with a different strain and succumb to its effects.

The arrogance and blinkered views I’ve seen on tv from students and millennials who think that it’s ok because they will get ‘the flu’ and recover within a couple of days disgusts me.

If (non-vulnerable) people get COVID-19 and are being sensible about social contact then they are helping solve the problem as they are very unlikely to be contagious and can then go about a more normal life to help support the economy.

Appreciate I’ve repeated a lot of what CCFCSteve has said but it’s literally fact and we all need to be conscious of the impact of our actions.

I’ve had to tell a lady I work with that I don’t want her in the office because she’s 72 and her husband is 84. She’s desperate to carry on with a normal life and insists she’s looking after herself. It’s was so hard to explain to an intelligent person that it’s not their actions that I worried about, it’s about people unknowingly passing it on when they are unaware they are contagious.

I’ve got a feeling that so many people will visit their Mums on Mother’s Day thinking that one day won’t be a problem. Please think twice, that one day could kill your Mums. If you love her please don’t visit.

Was just on Facebook- the sheer number of people out drinking, ramming pubs, laughing about “the super flu” and basically telling people to fuck off if they say anything is just unreal. This is a huge part of why we’re on course to be worse than Italy.
