This is the strategy SBD. I think it’s in the imperial report. There are two ends to this, vaccine or eventual herd immunity, via the suppression and then loosening of measures, followed by measures again (I don’t want to consider the third)
The key in the meantime appears to be the test that would confirm if you’ve had corona (not just if you’ve got it). If they can get this into circulation (and it’s found that you can’t subsequently infect post recovery or unlikely catch it again) then gradually more and more of the population can operate normally.
A lot of ifs and buts in there but from what the chief medical/scientific officers are saying that’s as good as it gets at the moment (in conjunction with finding drugs that better combat the virus - which will also be discovered no doubt)
You’re right. The ultimate goal is herd immunity but delivered through a combination of a controlled spread of the infection through periodically releasing social distancing controls at a rate that the NHS can manage the treatment of those infected, and the eventual use of vaccinations.
I don’t think there is any clear evidence to suggest that it can’t mutant regularly (two strains already), if so there is no guarantee that someone who’s had it can’t be infected with a different strain and succumb to its effects.
The arrogance and blinkered views I’ve seen on tv from students and millennials who think that it’s ok because they will get ‘the flu’ and recover within a couple of days disgusts me.
If (non-vulnerable) people get COVID-19 and are being sensible about social contact then they are helping solve the problem as they are very unlikely to be contagious and can then go about a more normal life to help support the economy.
Appreciate I’ve repeated a lot of what CCFCSteve has said but it’s literally fact and we all need to be conscious of the impact of our actions.
I’ve had to tell a lady I work with that I don’t want her in the office because she’s 72 and her husband is 84. She’s desperate to carry on with a normal life and insists she’s looking after herself. It’s was so hard to explain to an intelligent person that it’s not their actions that I worried about, it’s about people unknowingly passing it on when they are unaware they are contagious.
I’ve got a feeling that so many people will visit their Mums on Mother’s Day thinking that one day won’t be a problem. Please think twice, that one day could kill your Mums. If you love her please don’t visit.
