Imagine living in a foreign country working a shitty job on minimum wage. Worried about you family back home in Italy or Spain when someone gives you this.
They're live in staff as well so lose their accommodation and, according to the news reports earlier, some can't even travel back to their home countries because of restrictions.

That’s the one- one of the employees was interviewed, he is Spanish & literally had to spend the night in a tent as he’s skint and stranded here. And the hotel itself was only about 20% occupied.

How come you’d be at risk now, just out of sight out of mind or something?
When I took the mat cover they gave me the option of going back to my old role. I had done it for 4 years and was of the opinion that someone else might do a different job...fresh pair of eyes and all that. And I had done it for 4 years so was ready for a new challenge.

The colleague that I'm covering for is coming back end of May and theres a freeze on recruitment. Pre-Corona, I was confident that I'd be fine. Now I'm not certain and have been told by one boss to consider looking externally. A bit worrying to be honest.

I understand. I wish you all the best- it sounds like you’re highly valued so all may well be ok, it’s the uncertainty isn’t it.

who is lying? Points- it’s a football messageboard pal, you may be overthinking it. And as for Boris bashing, if someone is doing a shit job would you rather we all pretend he’s doing ok?
But you look for something to bash even when there is an offer of covering 80% of wages.

This shouldn't be about propaganda. Boris is a twat. Agreed. But it shouldn't be a party political broadcast for the Labour party.

Have you seen about the mortgage holiday?
I have thanks Astute and have discussed it with my wife. Going to see what happens and go down that route if needs be.

I don't want to take away from others more in need so will see how the next few weeks play out.

I haven’t said a single word about that because I don’t know enough about it, the details etc. I also haven’t bashed that one single bit because the more help the better. My issue was/is the communication and disjointedness of our approach, and the fact we are woefully underprepared while he blusters away. I’m not labour by the way, I dislike all of them.

You won't be taking away from others. The offer is there for all. Use it to put a few extra quid in the bank. Nobody knows what will happen next.

Britannia is owned by Alex Langsam, one of the richest men in the country said to be worth about £250m by the Times Rich List. Surprise surprise he's a non taxpayer who since 1999 has been registered as living in Austria for tax-purposes. And to top it all off he made a decent chunk of his fortune off taxpayers money by housing asylum seekers in the hotels.

Dislike all but only bash Boris.

He isn't the expert here. Yet it us all supposed to be about what he decides unless it is good. Then suddenly where is the money supposed to come from ti help people.

I think you’ll find I’ve done plenty of expert bashing and said more than once that Corbyn would be awful and is coming across very badly during all this. Apparently the chancellor is coming across well but I can’t comment on that either. But you have to call a spade a spade, Johnson has hardly come across well.

Thanks RoS. You've nailed it...it's just the uncertainty. I had a chat with my boss on Monday and said that I wasnt concerned previously but now I am. I had submitted a proposal (pre coronavirus) about extending our department by one as I think theres more we can do in terms of new business etc. I think that can will be kicked down the road (which I understand) so I've said I'm happy to firefight with other positions that need filling.

Waiting to see what happens.

Like I said though...the main thing is that me, my wife and my boy are healthy. That's keeping me going!! More people in a lot worse situation. Chin up and all that.

I think your attitude is spot on in terms of firefighting and who wouldn’t want someone like that working with them. And you’re right- my kids don’t really understand it fully and are going stir crazy (we’ve been on lockdown for a while now), but when it gets really stressful at work they give me a bell and it’s all in perspective. This will pass and it might all be crap for a while, but life will go on & in 5 years we’ll all be worried about something else- long as our loved ones are ok then fine, we’ll deal with the rest somehow and grind through it.

Mate if you take a mortgage holiday you aren’t taking one off someone else. They’re infinite. The banks will be OK, we know they can’t fail. You’re a good un for the thought but Make sure you are OK. Hope it all works out for you dude and if you need a new mother taking out around mid April just say the word ;)

Some people get very touchy if you aren’t praising Boris 24/7, it’s as weird as those mental old ladies that write Corbyn poetry.

There needs to be a list of every company who has been dicks to employees and ones trying to rip customers off and then when this is over they still have to stay closed
Absolutely, there's more than just a couple as well. Fuckers.
There are a lot of good people out there who are doing above and beyond. However there are some absolute shitbags who are either trying to profit, or they're treating their fellow human beings like shite.

Do they sing his name to the white Stripes too?

Probably. Calling politicians by their first name is always the first sign “Jeremy” “Boris” (OK his middle name but still). They aren’t your mate.

Same as there’s always a weird bloke at the football who calls players by their first name like he knows them.

I think one thing that the govt has done is well is psychologically sold the idea of an impending lockdown. If they've had gone balls first into lockdown on Monday, they'd have been massive push back and resentment (see Boris's dad's comment on going to the pub for example). But 5 days later, shutting pubs/clubs/etc is met with an 'about time' view.

They had to get buy-in to make it work. Lockdown is inevitable, it's just a matter of when. Yes, they'll still be the bravado brigade (copyright the name of my new band) but peer pressure will succeed.

You can argue about whether herd immunity was a tactic, whether they should have substituted social movements earlier, but I think we have the right set-up now (sorry, blatantly slipped into football cliches there...).

What Martin did takes the biscuit, I’m no lawyer but encouraging people to do something which could kill people feels dangerously close to criminal- he wants locking up.

Same with piers Morgan encouraging people to bulk buy. Causing panic.

I still haven’t seen what Morgan was saying, apart from when he said buying 3 weeks worth of shopping was entirely reasonable- but I can imagine what he’s been up to. He’s a parasite, built a career off the back of what others have done.

This argument has been made a few times and could be credible

Trouble is this thing has at least doubled in the vacuum between the two.

Problem with this theory (aside from it not fitting all the available explanations from multiple sources) is you’re talking about two different groups of people. Generally those saying “about time” are also those that have been saying we aren’t taking it seriously enough from day one.

This is the strategy SBD. I think it’s in the imperial report. There are two ends to this, vaccine or eventual herd immunity, via the suppression and then loosening of measures, followed by measures again (I don’t want to consider the third)

The key in the meantime appears to be the test that would confirm if you’ve had corona (not just if you’ve got it). If they can get this into circulation (and it’s found that you can’t subsequently infect post recovery or unlikely catch it again) then gradually more and more of the population can operate normally.

A lot of ifs and buts in there but from what the chief medical/scientific officers are saying that’s as good as it gets at the moment (in conjunction with finding drugs that better combat the virus - which will also be discovered no doubt)

You’re right. The ultimate goal is herd immunity but delivered through a combination of a controlled spread of the infection through periodically releasing social distancing controls at a rate that the NHS can manage the treatment of those infected, and the eventual use of vaccinations.

I don’t think there is any clear evidence to suggest that it can’t mutant regularly (two strains already), if so there is no guarantee that someone who’s had it can’t be infected with a different strain and succumb to its effects.

The arrogance and blinkered views I’ve seen on tv from students and millennials who think that it’s ok because they will get ‘the flu’ and recover within a couple of days disgusts me.

If (non-vulnerable) people get COVID-19 and are being sensible about social contact then they are helping solve the problem as they are very unlikely to be contagious and can then go about a more normal life to help support the economy.

Appreciate I’ve repeated a lot of what CCFCSteve has said but it’s literally fact and we all need to be conscious of the impact of our actions.

I’ve had to tell a lady I work with that I don’t want her in the office because she’s 72 and her husband is 84. She’s desperate to carry on with a normal life and insists she’s looking after herself. It’s was so hard to explain to an intelligent person that it’s not their actions that I worried about, it’s about people unknowingly passing it on when they are unaware they are contagious.

I’ve got a feeling that so many people will visit their Mums on Mother’s Day thinking that one day won’t be a problem. Please think twice, that one day could kill your Mums. If you love her please don’t visit.

Was just on Facebook- the sheer number of people out drinking, ramming pubs, laughing about “the super flu” and basically telling people to fuck off if they say anything is just unreal. This is a huge part of why we’re on course to be worse than Italy.
