Yes, people think Boris is doing a good job because they can't think beyond the superficial. Oh Boris looks tired so he's working very hard.
There has been a prolonged conditioning of the public that somehow spending on public services is money they'd otherwise have in their pockets, despite real terms income being no better than it was 10 years ago.

“conditioning” is an excellent word to use to describe what has been happening in the world in recent years.

Deaths in us are going to dwarf of all other places I reckon

It’s not looking good when the president doesn’t see what all the fuss is about. There’s a video going around somewhere showing a timeline of Trump’s statements on coronavirus as the days progressed- he makes Johnson look like Einstein

Exactly - 'Back Boris' is the mantra for those can't think critically, and suddenly absolutely nothing that he was privy to from years ago such as real terms cuts is of any relevance. It's no wonder why most of the people who fall into this category were not exactly academically adept.

I'm friends with some people who live in Florida. They won't have a bad word said about the twat.
Even when I pointed out that flights had been banned from foreign countries. But flights from New York continue. New York is in a bad place, and it's going to get a while lot worse.

It’s like all ability to challenge has gone, people support a politician and that’s that, they’ll excuse anything. Politics is getting more like religion all the time.

The Democrats had a chance to put FDR Mk. II up against Trump. They have chosen a corrupt dementia patient who has vowed that 'nothing will fundamentally change'.

Over here we gave a party a bumper majority as a reward for 10 years of incompetence.

yes, the party that keeps telling everyone that they have so much work to do to get things back on track- after they’ve been in charge themselves for a decade.

In his press conference tonight all he talked about was getting America back to work. He’s delusional. It’s almost as if he doesn’t pay attention to what is going on in the world.

The right wing over there are all currently misreading the Imperial paper thinking it says the original estimate was wrong and we’re only likely to get 20k deaths. Rather than that’s the estimate of what we’ll do if we follow social distancing.

He's as thick as pig shit and is trying to blag his way through. It will cost enormous numbers of lives and the thing is he might still get away with it in November

It is incredible in the light of the biggest unemployment figures (about 3 million more than the prior record) the stock market had its best 3 days in nearly a century

I think what we’re seeing is confirmation that he genuinely is a psychopath. He wants re-election and sees this pesky virus as a threat to his economic boasts, and so with every speech we get more evidence that he doesn’t care about human life as much as he cares about himself- the very epitome of a psychopath.

I don’t follow it too much so I don’t know the details of what they stand for and so on, but the opposition are hardly very inspirational are they.

America now number one in the world for cases yet Trump starts his press conference by having a go at the press saying they're making it seem worse than it is.

The press are making it seem worse than it is. The key word is 'is'.

The problem is that it is going to get much worse. And he either doesn't understand what is happening or he sees it more important he gets in office again than the lives of countless Americans are worth.

The only good news I can think of other than the cleaner environment is it should be the end of Trump politically.

Because the Fed is dumping trillions into the stock market and large corporations. Meanwhile ordinary Americans get fuck all-well, some will get infected

The Democrats stand for Republican-lite. Chiefly, be on board with lobbyists controlling the government but try to be a bit less bigoted

Joe Biden is on record bragging about trying to cut the state pension and that he has no empathy for the under 45s-he is also more mentally ill than the orange incumbent

Coronavirus testing figures (source- ITV):

Germany per week- 503,000, population 83m
U.K. per week- 42,000, population 67m

Pathetic

Balance of power. Capitalism is an excellent system to distribute wealth when times are good. After all, few could argue that the creation of jobs to sustain livelihoods is a bad thing. While this is going on though, there's a complete imbalance of power. Yes, when times are good, employment is high, people will continue to elect those who created the conditions in which these circumstances prevailed. But little do they know that the rich benefit so much more, so the vulnerable continue to bootlick politicans on the proviso that 'things are going well'.

Then comes the point where the politicans get carried away. They think they can streamline public services to line their own coffers a bit more, to give their friends a tax break. Great - it goes unnoticed when the NHS isn't under pressure. But it leaves an awful amount to be accounted for when things do go wrong.

And now we have it. There's been a reversal in the imbalance of power in relative terms. More people, at least I hope, are waking up to the idea that the governmentalists have played us into thinking that they were on our side all along. And now some backtracking needs to be done.

It probably is.
Printing money?
Who knows?

America has moved to the right over the last few decades but it wasn't always like this.

The New Deal was probably one of the most left wing policies they have ever had for the era.

The jury is still out though if it worked or not. The American economy was on the edge of struggling after the change from the trickle down economics previously used.

The Second World War came just in time for their economy to be the driving force to continue full employment for that time.

View attachment 14589 In amongst the sadness and tragic events, it’s almost as if some higher force was at work enacting seismic change in the world.

Hard capitalist governments are being forced to roll out enormously socialist policies. Environmental damage has slowed due to lockdown. The air is cleaner, and wildlife is benefiting. Previously undervalued working people such as those in healthcare & retail finally have something approaching the respect they richly deserve. People are spending more time at home and with family as opposed to behind a desk all day every day with ‘colleagues’.

And now Mexico are building a wall to keep the Americans out. In fact I’ll rephrase that, it’s not fair. It’s to keep the Trump-ists out

Why did it have to be a lethal worldwide pandemic that brought these things about?

It’s absolutely remarkable isn’t it? Legacy Systems are failing and being replaced. Things there were no money for are having billions thrown at them. Suddenly nearly everyone can work from home rather than commuting to an office and it turns out most jobs aren’t needed and the people on the lowest rungs of society are “key workers”.
