It pisses me off about the lack of ventilators but that I don't think specifically is a Tory fault, it's a systemic procurement failure. NHS Supply Chains work on pretty much a JIT basis, as brought in by the outgoing Labour government in 2010 when they privatised PASA and awarded a contract to DHL (a logistics company is the obvious choice for a JIT model tbf). It just isn't responsive enough to surges in demand and doesn't have any stockholding either. Completely reliant on the market to deliver quickly which is obviously a problem at the minute: https://wwwmedia.supplychain.nhs.uk/media/Ventilator-central-letter-13-March-2020.pdf

Did find it amusing that after all the outrage at Sultana for saying BME backgrounds were disproportionately impacted the BBC has this morning been covering hourly coverage to the same story without any criticism.

I showed tbe same on this thread and was accused of racism

I think her desire to see the Israel PM dead is somewhat more serious however

Excellent and grown up point and a lesson to be learned

You're criticised her. I put up a link to a Mp attending a funeral of 100 people and accused me of having racist undertones in my criticism

Jeez- people need to stop being so butthurt by things people come out with on a football message board, nobody knows whats going on, its a clusterfuck in real life and even more so on here, and if everyone is gonna store up nasty things that people say about them and brood about them then I'll be contacting Rees Mogg's old company myself to get recommended buying tips in the Psychiatry sector- they'll clean up.

So for the record- any insults or taunts by me, hearty apologies. I will buy everyone a beer who I offended once this is over :)

... well apart from The Lurker, who despite having perhaps the best username I have seen, seems to be something of a troubled individual.

Im hardly hurt and I think history will tell you I really don’t care what anyone else thinks about me

I do, however, think lazy accusations of racist intent help to fuel racism by causing resentment and justification

I'm not really concerned either, which I think can be both a strength and a weakness.

While I agree, this seems to have morphed into an excuse for many actual racists to always claim that’s what’s happening when their racism is called out.

Not sure but this could be a nail on the head moment.

All noise no proof. A good explanation of this thread.

This is it exactly. Maybe time to call time on that stuff though, its not as if there is nothing else to talk about.

I don’t know the answer. As I say I agree with Grendel that it’s overuse is counterproductive, but especially the “iSlAm iSn’T a RaCe” crowd seem to think they now have cart Blanche to dispute all accusations of racism.

I think my point is: all sides are arseholes.

When/ if the season starts again and people on here hopefully get to meet, I don't think anyone will come across anything like how they come across on here, and people will perhaps be amazed at how normal we all are and wonder why it all got so fucked up on a messageboard.

It’s obvious Lurker is racist - he really doesn’t make an attempt to hide it - his posting history is a walking BNP advert but the constant accusations just makes life easy for them - I have no thoughts about race at all - it’s illogical as a form of differentiation and it’s the one think I take issue with when being accused of such

I didn't check his history but I had been 'tipped off' by others on here about him.

I get prickly at the nationalism stuff I pick up on, however that is tainted by personal family experience, and I can get over the top about it.

I feel like I should now admit to substance abuse or alcoholism as well at this point.

But general point- there is a lot to talk about, I think we are blessed with some very smart & knowledgeable people on here and I enjoy reading their posts, if the blatant racists show up then fine, but apart from that lets just get on with it and have as much fun yapping away as its possible to have yapping away when the world has gone to absolute shit around us.

So really your beef should be with the experts then who advised him and probably did study for 7 years doing a medical degree that didn’t have this brainwave. No idea why you’ve singled Khan out.

No, It's not with the experts, if hes willing to put into the public domain these ideas then he needs to stand behind them and take responsibility when they fail, if you can't see that having highly contagious people in with healthy people will have adverse effects then you're not fit to run a city the size of London,

I've explained why Khan has been singled out today, someone mentioned about the high death rates with TFL workers, I linked to an article where he pritty much says carry on as normal. Then I got called racist by all the fools on here whom only see colour and not stupid ideas.

And for once we are in full agreement.

Call racism out for what it is and anyone not racist will agree. Call racism out to put your POV across and the majority of people will see it for what it is. But they won't call it out for what it is for the fear of being called a racist.

Just look at this thread. The MP who went to a funeral attended by about 100 people. You were racist if you mentioned it. Then the question comes up why certain minorities have a bad rate of infection. But if you mention why it might be you are a racist.

The only reason I kept myself away from here. And the only reason of my stupidity of posting on this thread. Yeah. My eldest daughter is half Asian. And I am a racist. I understand.

Really can’t tell why you haven’t understood that an article published on the 3rd March wasn’t that relevant. You got called racist because your “proof” was weak as fuck. You also said he’d been saying it for weeks, meaning you’re going back to mid Feb.

Just accept you were wrong and there was nothing wrong with saying it was safe when there were 39 cases in the whole country and we were still in track and trace phase and not suppression.

Working from home is better with this in the background.

Lesson learned: kitchen chairs will fuck your back up good and proper, work from home again? Take an office chair
I already worked from home 50/50 so was all good to go. My productivity has gone way down since getting involved in this shit show.

Shmmeee, would just like to say that someone having weak proof does not classify them as a racist.

While in isolation I agree, the thing is it’s parroting the racist tripe Khan has had from the far right since he got the job. Same as the dodgy “look as all the Muzzies not doing as their told” videos where half of the turn out to be from a different time and the one that isn’t is a bunch of kids being dispersed by the police.

That’s why the accusations of racism, because you’re saying the same stuff as racists so really need decent proof to show you aren’t one of them.

Come on an talk about how Asian families’ living arrangements tend to be multigenerational and that doesn’t help the spread, fair enough. That isn’t a far right talking point.

Fuck off Fletch, it was a link to an article,I think that you're still angry with me. it's time to let it go.

What is this Fletch thing? You mean as in the Chevy Chase movie where he had shitloads of fake IDs?

It's his name, It was when he posted a picture of his home PC and left all his account details on his screen.

It wasn't a problem when he said it wasn't a problem. Move on over a month and it is a problem. A major problem.

So who chooses who can catch a bus or the underground? Does Khan make the law? Does he have the right to overrule the law? Does it come down to those who run the services?

We have been too lax on travelling.

Key workers only? Too hard to have a pass to those who should be travelling?

To me travel in London should be free to those who need it. Unavailable to those who are not key workers. Yes it would cost. But be a godsend to those who need it. And be a hindrance to those who should stay at home.

Dunno what it is, lack of structure I assume- I went on a 30km bike ride last night to try and completely knacker myself to sleep (around a loop, I didn't break the rules), but still woke up at odd hours not knowing what was going on. The daily commute has gone from 1hr to walking from the bedroom to the kitchen, its just a messed up situation.

Always good to get your take on these things FP as you obviously have a more in depth knowledge than most.
However this government has had 10 years to improve methods of procurement, even if the flawed methods were implemented by Labour.

They have also been advised repeatedly to build some redundancy into the NHS (again, advise that was first given to the last Labour government), n order to deal with such a pandemic, they didn't, and it's bitten us on the arse on their watch, they need to own it.
