Everyone squealed racist Tory when they deported Windrushers who had every right to be here and they didn't give a fuck so I don't think they can use a few social media cranks as an excuse for not doing what needs to be done now.

To try and put blame for mishandling the pandemic on Twitter is some stretch even for the Tory fan boys on here.

You’ve just proved my point

I doubt many would though. We’ve seen on here the promotion of a twitter crank who claimed the government made up NHS accounts to support herd immunity when a cursory piece of research would show he’s a nut job

No one will make these decisions now as they are terrified of the masses swallowing the twitter frenzy of utterly insane accusations. The person who made this ridiculous accusation should be put in prison for 10 years and anyone promoting the nonsense a hefty fine and warning of future conduct

Then governments may become brave again

If they didn't partake in it then I'd have more sympathy

I haven't.
You were correct to say the government is weak.
To make out it's because they're worried about public perception is nonsense.
If they were they might actually run the country and manage this pandemic properly.

You're talking about a party that spent 4 years making up anything and everything about a 65 year old geography teacher lookalike to convince everyone the world would end if he got elected

No it isn’t. If they’d locked the borders against FOM regulations gigs he screaming racist bastards. You believed that nut job on twitter. Even if it was correct you’d have still screamed that they were a racist government. You want liberalism and not total government empowerment - if you seriously believe any ruling party would have taken the required action you are deluding yourself

You can't pint hold and joke your way out when tens of thousands will die

But some crackpot can say he’s got hard evidence 128 accounts have been created by the government and morons believe it. Thousands will die anyway

You're missing the point.
People have screamed racism on plenty of occasions before, the government has ignored it. Don't make out it would be a factor in this.
And Raab said last year no one's interested in the cut and thrust of social media when the Tories got caught out being let's say disingenuous. It's no good bleating about it now.
The any government argument is irrelevant. It happened on this government's watch. They're responsible for the consequences of their response.

So why did so many have to retract claims that were effectively libel? There was so much mud thrown at that guy and most was exaggerated or as tenuous as Steven Gerrard on a wet pitch. You can't bitch about 'morons believing anything' when that's how Leave and the Tories build their success. Not taking aside either the obscene stuff printed about Miliband and his dad or the bullshit narrative around Labour crashing the economy which is still widely believed even after George Osborne admitted it was guff

Oh it’s our biggest advantage no question and yes we could have locked our borders immediately and should have done. Whatever you think of this government it’s essentially weak and liberal on its thinking and courts popular thinking. If they’d done it the outrage regarding its racist, xenophobic behaviour would have been confirmed. The Rachel Riley stalkier would have been in full flow and everyone pretty much in here would have been outraged

Churchill would have locked the borders and anyone who’s travelled from China, Italy and Spain would be against their will isolated

and everyone on here would squeal racist Tory
So what you’re saying then is Boris is Neville Chamberlain and needs to go for the good of the country. At last, something we agree on.

Social media is full of crack pots spreading bullshit from all ends of the political spectrum.
I don't like it any more than you but don't make out it's the preserve of Labour supporters.

Do you accept the twitter account regarding the NHS workers was a lack of lies

I haven't looked in to it to be honest. I thought it was dismissed as a false claim quite early so I'm of the opinion the claims were false.
However, activists of all parties use false accounts to push an agenda, that's a given.

of course, which is the whole point of pushing bullshit.
And no matter how much people try to check everything with so much information coming our way it's impossible to not get taken in. Whether it's twitter or a false claim on the side of a bus.
I said, and I stand by it, I'd like to see measure taken. Wouldn't go as far as your 10 years in jail but I would like to see some sort of penalty for pushing bullshit.

Not sure any righty has a leg to stand on about things being believed in here, given the readiness which photoshopped 'posters' supposedly from Diane Abbot were gobbled up...

Let’s say you’re right - and you took this course of action - you’d be sending half of Whitehall to prison, as well as the PR departments for every political party.

The day a Government gets brave is the day it starts to tell the truth.... and we all know how unlikely that is.
