Back on topic. It seems this outbreak in South Korea is down to one fella who was carrying the virus and visited 5 nightclubs in a night.
Just shows what we're up against with this thing and I think stories like this will be definitely taken into account when the government are considering reopening pubs etc.

I've expressed as much both in surveys carried out by the school and to the (new) head of department but there isn't a great deal that can be done simply because my timetable is the heaviest among my colleagues and I am by far the least experienced. I was already burned out coming into the lockdown and now the requirements around making online lesson materials/marking/chasing/running a club are too much. Plus there are the types who want to show off their whizziness with remote learning which creates an added pressure.

With the missus in a very similar situation the Brighton household is a bit of a tense one. We're in front of a screen for the vast majority of the day which doesn't help.

Thought I’d give a more considered reply without it being hijacked...

Your employer has a duty of care to ensure your welfare as well as the students. They have to provide conditions of work that keep you ‘safe’ even if you are remotely working - and that includes a reasonable amount of workload. Do you have a union rep in your school? It would be worth both of you contacting them and sharing your experience. Is your head of department approachable? (They should be if they are a decent one)

The people doing the whizzy, fancy online learning stuff - just let them get on with it. Don’t try and compete with them or feel under pressure to do the same. There will always be people like that - most with the best of intentions for the kids, and a few that simply do it to make themselves look good at the expense of others.

Take care and there’s always some ‘lefties’ on here to chat to if it gets too much.

Thanks for all of that, head of dept said as much this morning. It’s just a perfect storm of things and with everything remote I have no means of perceiving what is and isn’t standard or excessive. I just don’t feel able to do what I think is the minimum.

Thanks for all of that, head of dept said as much this morning. It’s just a perfect storm of things and with everything remote I have no means of perceiving what is and isn’t standard or excessive. I just don’t feel able to do what I think is the minimum.

Of course - it’s a completely unique situation for our profession. I think as well it can be made worse by the school/MAT you are part of. My wife and I work for different trusts and while mine has a lot of issues in it they have recognised that staff welfare and working from home is the most important thing (apart from the welfare of the kids obviously) so they have backed off with all the excessive stuff. My wife’s MAT however are using this time to overtly obsess with their ‘corporate image’ and making teachers complete onerous tasks in the name of uniformity and ‘consistency’
