Saw on Facebook a map of local authorities with the purported new Tiers on. It still has Cov & Warks as Tier 3, in fact practically the entire Midlands aside from the rural Tory voting bits like Shropshire, Hereford and Worcestershire.

Tory heartlands Surrey, Essex etc still Tier 3 despite case numbers higher than many Tier 2 areas.

I always said I would back him if he sticks to his 10 pledges. He's not doing it.
It's pointless voting for some one just because they happen to be Labour if it's not going to effect actual change.

And as for the left taking it's medicine, you think people's money going into a party 5hat had people actively working against the leadership should just be forgotten about - not going to happen. That was Tory enabling writ large right there.

Mate. I want left wing goals. I’m just not in the weird cult. Given a choice between Corbyns manifesto and Blair’s its Corbyns all day long. Just to be clear on my position.

But you (and the vast majority of the left) seem to have forgotten what game we’re playing. Oh boo hoo some party members were mean. And many lefties have been mean. So fucking what? Suck it up.

No one care about this shite outside of very left wing spaces. We’re trying to win elections here. What you gonna do? You gonna fuck off to Corbyns Pyjama Party and have righteous Zoom meetings about how mean centrists are? Push the left further and further into oblivion?

The Labour electorate are the soft left. They want to be left but want to win more. You have two choices: take your ball and go home and feel ace posting on Twitter while the country slides to the right, or out your big boy pants on, accept the lefts messaging and priorities have been a shit show, accept the electorate soundly rejected Corbyn if not Corbynism, and start seriously looking like you want to win elections and enact change instead of constantly whining and throwing a tantrum.

Most Labour members are “centrists” or “on the right”. This is the central delusion of the left. You’re either with them or you’re right wing scum. It’s fucking nonsense and all it does is keep left wing ideas on the fringe because building consensus and winning elections is Blairite or some such shite.

Piss and moan all you like but reality is you either go right wing economically a la Blair or you go conservative socially a la Blue Labour to win in this country. Pick one, or don’t complain when the adults do.

Starmer has done nothing wrong sonspsre me the “oh I tried but he’s just so evil” crap. He’s pulled out polling out the gutter and is doing all the hard work needed to detoxify us after the absolute well of shit Corbyn left us in. If you don’t want to be part of that then fine, but enjoy being politically irrelevant for the rest of your days.

As I say to my ten year old: it may be unfair, other people may be mean, but you can only control yourself. So get that in order first.

Sorry, agreed, the hospitalisations are a decent comparison/comparable.

ps rumours that Christmas rules could change. Not sure if I agree with that or not. I’d prefer to arm people with all the relevant info and allow them to make considered choices (as a lot will do anyway) but I guess some will just hear ‘I can mix with everyone for 5 days’

I just wanted to hear I could see some people for the first time in a year or more particularly given I could quarantine myself for over a week beforehand

I disagree with a fair chunk of that to be honest.
I've no problem with Corbyn getting fucked off. He had his chance.
But Starmer said he was going to unite the party, he hasn't. He hasn't attempted to.

He said he was going to strengthen links with the unions then let the act cop bill go through unopposed.

His last word on the Jenrick.scandal was you haven't heard the last of this, he never said another word.

He said he was going to form an effective opposition but has rarely taken the government to task.
This is just off the top of my head. He's insipid.
He's not Corbyn isn't a reason not to back him but it isn't a reason to support him either.

I don’t disagree with a lot of what you are saying here but a free points to add.

Starmer may be trying to entice that soft-Tory vote which he will definitely need if he was to get a majority, but at what cost? Disaffect the people like BAME voters, the young, those that can’t get on the property ladder by being utterly absent in fighting for what they want?
These people make up a huge party of the party activist machine.

So far Starmer has suggested he wants to row back on half of his pledges and indicated he has little interest in things like UBI for example. Ambivalent about really pressing issues during the Cov-ID pandemic (keeping school safe, protection for renters)

Centrism as you call it was responsible for pushing the PV agenda which ended up with Labour getting a beating - and now we put our trust in this going forward?

The ‘far left’ agenda would have been far more likely to have honoured the vote, and savedus quite the hammering (although I accept the toxicity of Corbyn’s image would have still resulted in defeat, even though it is utterly unfair)

I joined the party because it had an identity.... I’m struggling to see it now.

I saw that, it's basically a map the bbc ran which basically takes the current tiers and changes the london and south east tiers

One more point - the party has been in decline since 2007. The only arrest to that decline was Corbyn in 2017, with that manifesto.
I don’t understand why Starmer isn’t looking at building on that, rather than returning to the pale, uninspiring nonsense that was Labour 2010-15. Miliband had his legs cut from under him too... all in the name of what? Sensible politics?

Starmer might be ‘electable’ to the face of the Centrist dads, and the FBPE brigade.... is that enough to inspire the next generation and the polices they need in terms of Green Deals, Housing for the Future, Equality for all?

Lateral Flowing testing now open to the Coventry public from tomorrow at Priory Hall at Cov Uni (just opposite the Cathedral). No appointment needed and only available to people with NO symptoms.

I went and did mine the other week and got my results back within 45 minutes so if people are concerned about meeting elderly relatives over Christmas then taking this test prior to meeting them would certainly help reduce the risk of passing it on.

Good for the uni providing a public service. Appreciate that the tests do return false -ve but it's a little bit more comfort

Labour needs another Blair, minus the Iraq debacle, although in certain circumstances I can partially get my head around that, mistake or not, real world failure.

Do we think Blair would have won without support from the Murdoch papers? I’m intrigued to know peoples thoughts as I was still in school at that point so maybe not aware to the mood of the country at that time?

He would. He got their support because he was the breath of fresh air the country needed. And he was (is) a great speaker, too.

People got too carried away with the excellent piano playing of Prof' Brian Cox

It is disappointing that we again haven't been able to get a genuine leftwing manifesto delivered through labour.
But I think he was the last leader with any genuine wisdom.
Surestart would have been a resounding success media played it's part but it was also the man himself, and I do think the job was done on Corbyn too,so much against that agenda getting the chance of a hearing in this nation unfortunately.

I’m not saying he only won because of that endorsement (even though they declared it themselves at the time)

Starmer could be the man that could take a manifesto like 2017 and deliver it. But my disappointment stems from him not appearing to want to.

I'm not sure someone who set the world alight and lead to the creation of ISIS can be credited with that much wisdom to be honest.

Written press was a much bigger animal back then. Would have been difficult to win without them.
Blair admitted he was afraid to take them on over their ownership and influence even after he was Prime Minister.
Murdoch was even a major factor in getting Clinton elected.

What's gone wrong in Germany? Over 800 dead today. 333 was their highest during the first wave and they had less than 800 total throughout June, July, August, September and October combined.

Bit of fatigue but it's hard not to think schools remaining open this time has had a big effect in many European countries. Our numbers in Hungary of infections and deaths are way ahead of the first wave when everything basically shut. This time schools for those under 14 have stayed open. Germany have kept the school's open up until this week.

The press are weather vanes not kingmakers.

I Reckon The biggest factor is just the change in weather.

If there's a case in a school this week doesn't that mean you then have to isolate over Christmas?

Seems a ridiculous thing to pick an argument over. Even if you're all for keeping schools open no matter what we're talking about four days, does that really make a huge difference to kids education given what's been happening the last 12 months?

4/5 days where they'll do fuck all anyway.
