so what's this latest missive from our leader?
Bubble extended to three house holds but are tiers still going to be in place so tier 3 pubs will still be shut over Christmas?

Yeah, no changes to Xmas rules previously stated (for England). Just stronger guidance. Basically not illegal to meet but pretty much advising against mass/multiple gatherings.

25,161 cases today. 612 deaths. Only includes about 500 Welsh cases as their new reporting system isn't working properly. There's potentially been an under report of around 2,000 cases due to those issues since the weekend.

lots of these new cases do seem to be in the south east which is really, really in trouble.

Yes, doesn't look good down there and Wales Public Health have announed they will be reporting a backlog of around 11,000 cases tomorrow so I reckon South Wales is in massive trouble too.

That's over a week though but yes they aren't in a good way. Their issues seem to be around the RCT area again

5 days I think, the last set of figures inputted with no issue were last Friday's given on Saturday. It looks like their true case rate is between 2500 and 3000 a day which for a country their size is pretty grim and this off the back of high figures for months on end on areas such as Merthyr. Certainly puts paid to anyone thinking herd immunity might have worked.

It's grim but it's not 2500 to 3000 a day if it is 11,000 cases

How can we open everything up for 5 days with numbers like that? It really is madness

Not really opening everything up though Pete.... 35m people cant even go to their local boozer or restaurant ! They just won’t be able to fine you if you choose to see a family member/mate outside your bubble.

I might be wrong but I get the impression most wont risk mixing with elderly relatives, or if they do will be extremely cautious.

There is no doubt numbers will increase though (theyre already are on the rise as mentioned above)

Had to send home an entire year group (240) today as we’ve had another cluster of cases that are all connected to a string of single cases over the last 3 or so weeks. Impossible to know how it spreads when they rarely show symptoms.

Its ok though, the government are now using the 'common sense' / 'personal responsibility' rhetoric again. If the numbers go up, the government will blame the public for not using their common sense or displaying personal responsibility. Boris's hands are clean

Santa Claus has resigned in the French town of Blois because of repeated insults from passers-by. Locals apparently got angry that for hygiene reasons he couldn’t take the children in his arms or give them treats.

Two students fined 10 grand each for the crime of having a party

Just utterly illogical isn't it? You can't have a party but you can live alongside many others in dormitories.

I'd hope any income gained from people being fined is used to actually support others to isolate when they are required to, but that doesn't happen.

Realistically how is a student expected to pay a £10k fine? I'm assuming there will be the option to pay it in instalments, but even so, having something like this hanging over your head when you're trying to find your way in life must be very daunting. Ridiculous.

How on Earth are they expected to be able to pay?

The murdoch press deffo are, they change only when the are 100% sure of a winner

I don’t know why it’s easier to believe that a paper that sells around 1m copies somehow controls the entire populations thinking, rather than the idea that most of our fellow countrymen hold views similar to most newspapers.

Not really illogical is it? Student “dormitories” are mostly self contained flats and can me managed. Parties with 30 people in a flat getting drunk is obviously more is a risk.
