You're right to be concerned given everything that's gone on but I remember Fauci saying that any vaccine that was over 60 percent effective would be enough to halt the virus.

Given that both vaccines do that with one dose this may not be a bad idea.
Not sure 60% is enough to restore public confidence mind you.

they're fucking this up as well aren't they - great.
Why should I have expected anything different from the mob that spunked millions on snide PPE from a Turkish T shirt salesman.

Hancock is just useless and the civil service has been filled with sycophantic non entities who no longer provide any challenge to ministers

so it looks to me as though the Astra zeneca vaccine has been approved to be administered 12 weeks apart but Pfizer are saying that they don't know if theirs will be effective with that much of a gap between doses as they never did any tests that exceeded doses been given with more than a 21 day lag.

I wonder if they tell you which one you're getting?!

Pfizer have now said their vaccine isn't designed to be used in two shots given 12 weeks apart, so much for following the science!

Yeah I read that somewhere yesterday but can't find the link.

Essentially they are saying there is NO evidence it works (as well) giving the second shot after 12 weeks.

Gavin Williamson - "Wants to give parents notice that hopefully schools will be reopening"

The details are overwhelming. On tenterhooks waiting to be told my lads school will hopefully be opening. I'll let my boss know that hopefully I'll be in next week.

It's crazy isn't it? Most schools will be open... Hopefully schools will open... We're 10 months into this and they still make the same mistakes.

remember that Williamson is only in that position because he wont get security clearance for any other brief following his sacking by May, that's where we are.

The Biotech vaccine gives protection it seems after one jab within 12 days whereas the Zeneca one is 21 days

the theory is based on the belief booster vaccines work better if the boost is a longer period of time. It seems most get higher effectiveness 6 months apart - which is obviously impossible now as this is a vaccine programme in the middle of the epidemic

Just received form from school what an absolutely nightmare!!

On the consent form for the kids it asks the parents for volunteers and what the shifts are and what’s required

The shifts are 8.30-12.30 and 12.15 to 3.15

Tues 5th to Friday 15th

Then possibly they will pay people

They need quality lead / team leader
Registration
Results recorder
Test assistant
Processor and
Cleaner

I’m working full time in what’s deemed a key role in hmrc but I’m gonna do a couple of shifts as we all need to pull together. I hope other parents feel the same

Why aren’t they just sending the kids home with the tests and asking parents to administer the test the next morning before they go into school? Is there a reason for that? Because it sounds like they’re just finding ways of getting people to mix unnecessarily by inviting extra people into schools who may or may not have Covid to mix with a group of people who may or may not have Covid. Am I missing something here? Is there a specific reason why the test has to be administered on the school premises by people from outside your child’s bubble instead of at home just before they leave for school by someone in your child’s bubble and they simply hand it in to the form tutor when they get to school?

Just seems to me that they’re over complicating it while bringing in extra people to mix between bubbles.

(Edit) Just checked and the lateral flow test was approved for self testing in the home just before Xmas. So why are the government insisting it has to happen in school and making children mix with people that they wouldn’t otherwise mix with while that same person will be crossing bubbles within the school. Am I missing something or is this just another example of a lack of joined up thinking from the government.

My guess would be that some parents don't even bother to feed their kids so wouldn't be trusted to do this. At least you know it's been done and can be logged if it's kept in school.

Was thinking that TBF but then you’d just test the kids who parents don’t take responsibility in the school exposing just them to a third party instead of the whole school.

This is unbelievable and yet completely predictable,, come Autumn we will likely be looking back at a vaccination programme that resembles a confused fragmented casualty strewn battleground, whilst the virus gathers pace and takes off again.
Another missed opportunity by a completely incompetent government.
We are fucked.

The rollout of this needs to be completely removed from the politicians. Leave it to those who know what they are doing and leave the self serving incompetents out of it.

What happened to the communicty mass testing that the governement said was being rolled out in Coventry weeks ago, did that ever happen?

Is there any reason that capacity can't be used for schools rather than hoping parents will do the job? Doesn't this risk leaving schools in poorer areas behind as I'd expect parents at those school would have less capacity to spend time in schools testing.

Not great but a consequence of an impractical vaccine for mass rollout

Well it’s inevitable it’s going to be impossible to administer in the middle of a crises. We have to hold the Oxford vaccine works and it’s that which holds the key
