I see Chris Grayling has taken on the hedgehogs cause of increasing their numbers within the UK.

This should be more than just a warning to put them on the endangered species list now that Grayling is involved.

It feels like the confidence level around vaccines is pretty low given the draconian measures around travel being considered and the nervousness of giving any kind of indication on when things may improve. A big shift on mood from the beginning of the year

German regulators reckon Oxford vaccine only 8% efficacy in the over 65s. If true a complete and utter disaster.

Interesting overview of what’s been happening (and potentially why)

Let’s hope AZ and MHRA are correct. This is following on from the Guardians article from an Israel source (which Whitty tore apart) about Pfizer’s efficacy only being 33% after one jab

The anti vaxers will be lapping this up either way

unverified at the moment, just reports I think

seems strange at a time the EU is threatening to block exports of AZ vaccine and even potentially take legal action against AZ for planned reductions of supply

Found a link to responses from the Oxford side

Seems it stems from giving the Phase 3 trials to those who were also shielding hence perhaps inflating the efficacy? Antibody testing on the other hand was not affected in either group.

Just been reading about other countries and schooling.
Use of public buildings to increase space
Also thinking about Labour manifesto to give free broadband to all households looking quite forward thinking

I'm going to go with this for now:

“No idea where their number comes from. I know 8 percent is the percentage of people over 65 in the study, but not the efficacy. Not sure if the reporter got mixed up. MHRA would not approve a vaccine with 8 percent efficacy.”

Plus I don't know anything about German newspapers and which ones talk bollocks and which ones don't.

Bloody communist.
My mates daughter was back here at Christmas, she teaches in Dubai.
She said remote learning is the norm now and running smoothly though all the neccessary resources are available and there's a big culture of stay at home mum's and nannies so schools arent needed as defacto baby sitters.
Two of the big obstacles here

I find it mental that one bellend in a paper can cause things like this (still don't know if it's true).
And then our lot over here claiming "Germany" have made the claim. No, a newspaper, in Germany, has made the claim.

And using buzzwords like "War" etc. Cunts all round.

Bigger current issue, for time being at least anyway (diplomatic and vaccine related) is DODs article above about EU threatening to block vaccine supplies to other countries

Basically if the Pfizer vaccine is only at 33% after 1 dose it would be workable but the main issue is the messaging makes people think 1 dose and they are safe.

That could bite us on the arse.

Also the government does need to publish the science behind the 3 month gap as it goes against what the makers say and it seems to be based on a figure taken from trials after the 2nd dose was given.

Would you say the drop in cases in post vaccine over 65s in Israel suggests the jab does decrease infection rates?

The Pfizer data shows lower case rates and hospitalisation but not necessarily reduced transmission. Though intuitively there should be at least some effect

Whitty rubbished that report in the guardian/Israel report about Pfizer (hope he’s right !)
