I think the first jabs also coincided with the introduction of a new lock down so that may be a factor in any reductions.

That'll help, it'll be interesting to see the results once they have them from a period with less restrictions .

They do look very promising though and it does look like the Stage 3 trials are being reproduced "in the wild".

It is of course complete nonsense on the same level that Bill Gates puts a microchip in it but decades of being treated as worthless citizens makes an environment in a community where shit like this is easy to believe.

Quite, and applies to a lot more communities than just BAME.

What astounds me is how the government continues to just give ‘advice’ on new variants and isn’t enforcing quarantine of affected individuals. Australia showed how it should be done

Said this a few times but I can’t fucking stand the term BAME. It’s not a community.

Agreed. Arguing semantics if the term communities plural is used rather than community singular is that any better, as it indicates they aren't all a single homogeneous group but a variety of groups who have the shared characteristic of not being white?

If the term white community is used, there's plenty of white communities that I'd have pretty much nothing in common with other than skin colour.

Yep. Utterly incredulous how, after years of talking about gaining control of the borders and with legitimate reason to toughen them up under public health concerns they've not done so.

We're not the same as NZ/Oz (different population densities/they're now in summer and it's very hot) but when you look at their transmissions over the period and how they're now opening up and people are outside it's almost unfathomable why their plans on having enforced quarantine on arrivals haven't been copied. Even in the Middle Ages we knew the value of such measures to restrict/prevent disease yet we've totally ignored all this - I can only imagine it's a massive amount of hubris thinking we're better and smarter than places like Australia now or ourselves in the olden days allied to this total deference to the economy (even though results suggest it's having the opposite effect) that's stopping us.

The word quarantine even originates from the 40 day isolation insisted on in some places during the Black Death

Very sad news. What a life he had.

Not so keen on his family milking his fame for all its worth though (and I'm sure they will continue to do so).

Also I don’t think going to Barbados was very wise. On the one hand, nice to enjoy his final years and have a nice holiday like that, but on the other hand… what the fuck are you doing taking a 100 year old man on holiday in the middle of a global pandemic?

Yeah it's a shitty term, sorry, it's just also the most used term for 'all the non-whiteys', which is a lovely and progressive way to view the world.

My issue is why are we defining groups by whether they're white or not? We aren't even the majority colours.

If the issues with say vaccine scepticism are in British Pakistani communities or Afro-Carribean communities, at least that's vaguely accurate. I'm not even sure race is the best way to categorise them, what if we had a large French contingent who are vaccine sceptic, would we say 'White communities'?

It's like when they Green Party decided women should be called 'non-men'.

Poor old Tom RIP, a real shame, it’s also a real shame that he attained his 15 minutes of fame raising money for something that should already be taken care of by government.

Sweden, Poland & Germany have also said under 65s only and Belgium & Italy have gone even further and said under 55s. Hopefully they're just being over cautious until more data is available.
They’re actions are going to restrict our avenues to getting out of lockdown
