Unfair - you cannot compare that era with the modern game
Course it matters.
When you are a player on the pitch and look across to the dugout, what thought do you want running through your head?
'This guy is smart, strong, clean cut, calm, in control and a snappily dressed quick thinker and decision maker'
or
'Would I buy a used car off this bloke?'
Why Not. ? I'm not comparing eras i'm comparing images.
Your wrong anyway. When he started out he had a dress code for players, forced them to have haircuts and was always smart himself.
And as far as i remember Thorn was wearing a suit and tie most times i looked across the pitch last season, so i can only assume your,e irrational dislike of the man is down to the fact he's overweight, therefore i'm happy to be wrong anyway.
Oliver Hardy, Winston Churchill, John Candy. I like all of these people and they were all fat, they are also all dead so you may not have to wait too long to see thorn departEric Pickles, John Prescott, Andy Thorn.
Can you see a pattern emerging?
I wasn't innacurate to say Cloghy used to wear tracky bottoms and an old green sweatshirt.Actually I have already said that I am not necessarily a subscriber to the body image think. I am perfectly rational. I therefore don't dislike him as I don't know him. I just think he is very poor at what he is paid to do.
I was merely correcting your innacuracies.

Just wondering - who are the other unkept manages in professional football - can you think of any as bad or .... worse
I am not a subscriber of the body image thing but I do remember years ago I managed some franchises in the motor industry. I went to visit a family owned business one day and I met the General Manager who looked rather glum. When I asked what was wrong he said he had a visit from the owner of the business (eccentric, old school) and was told to dismiss his sales manager. Why I asked he has only just started. I'm told he's too fat was his response. The owner doesn't like fat people they are lazy and not productive get rid of him - and he did!

Well I was once in a meeting at another site with the owners son and a sales manager. I was expressing some concern that the sales manager was not great at understanding data. The owners son said with the bloke beside him "look he's a turd and you can't polish a turd move on". It was like the gaffer and it was this century.
The minority scraping the barrel I see.
One last thing, from reading this forum in recent weeks it is clear to me that many of you have no knowledge of football.
Last season he was like a 16 year old in a brothel for the very first time it has to be said.
I will start to judge Thorn when we play league games. Friendlies don't really mean anything but they should be used to get our main players fit and gelling together.
Thorn doesn't really have any excuses to hide behind in League One...
Despite all the bickering of last season pretty much everyone now agrees we have the squad to compete in l1. All of those who like thorn (myself included) should be happy to concede he's not good enough if we aren't challenging for promotion. Dragging up last years debate is totally pointless
Surely if he fails this year with the players it just proves the people who doubted Thorn's management skills last season correct...The same as if he does well it proves people who didn't rate him (including myself) wrong?
