Course it matters.

When you are a player on the pitch and look across to the dugout, what thought do you want running through your head?

'This guy is smart, strong, clean cut, calm, in control and a snappily dressed quick thinker and decision maker'

or

'Would I buy a used car off this bloke?'

Coleman was always dressed up like an Armani shop dummy. In fact going by the lack of anything coming from him, an actual shop dummy would probably have dome a better job. As long as it's "nuts and bolts" didn't come loose and his head fell off.

Why Not. ? I'm not comparing eras i'm comparing images.

Your wrong anyway. When he started out he had a dress code for players, forced them to have haircuts and was always smart himself.

And as far as i remember Thorn was wearing a suit and tie most times i looked across the pitch last season, so i can only assume your,e irrational dislike of the man is down to the fact he's overweight, therefore i'm happy to be wrong anyway.

Actually I have already said that I am not necessarily a subscriber to the body image think. I am perfectly rational. I therefore don't dislike him as I don't know him. I just think he is very poor at what he is paid to do.

I was merely correcting your innacuracies.

Eric Pickles, John Prescott, Andy Thorn.

Can you see a pattern emerging?
Oliver Hardy, Winston Churchill, John Candy. I like all of these people and they were all fat, they are also all dead so you may not have to wait too long to see thorn depart

I wasn't innacurate to say Cloghy used to wear tracky bottoms and an old green sweatshirt.

This was only in the sad end says. By then I think respect had been earned by results.

I am not a subscriber of the body image thing but I do remember years ago I managed some franchises in the motor industry. I went to visit a family owned business one day and I met the General Manager who looked rather glum. When I asked what was wrong he said he had a visit from the owner of the business (eccentric, old school) and was told to dismiss his sales manager. Why I asked he has only just started. I'm told he's too fat was his response. The owner doesn't like fat people they are lazy and not productive get rid of him - and he did!

And if he'd ever find out, he'd have a great case for wrongful dismissal on his hands! Whatever next? Getting rid of people because they smoke, or are the wrong colour?

I wouldn't buy a car off that shady looking Mourinho chap, but I wouldn't mind him running my football team!

Well I was once in a meeting at another site with the owners son and a sales manager. I was expressing some concern that the sales manager was not great at understanding data. The owners son said with the bloke beside him "look he's a turd and you can't polish a turd move on". It was like the gaffer and it was this century.

I can quite believe that, my team leader will happily come over to me and whinge about my opposite who can hear everything he says.

Not sure too many noticed the tongue planted very much in my cheek on this thread.... but it was a slow news day, I was bored, tumbleweed was blowing across the pitch etc. etc. etc.

So, Thorn out or not?:D:thinking about:;)

The minority scraping the barrel I see.

Which lot are the minority? I'm not sat on the fence, but I think I might be on a see-saw..

Right instead of talking like a bunch of idiots about how you wouldn't buy a car off thorn and his image, let's put things in perspective. Firstly thorn has probably had the worst set of players of any manager since our relegation and yet at times last season got us playing good football, matching the majority of teams we played and losing matches because of a lack of experience and having to rely on mediocre players like bell, platt, clingan, baker and deegan. Secondly he has had no money to spend, compared to people like Coleman who had a mil to spend on eastwood. Thirdly the owners have made no valid attempt to keep our best players king, gunner, juke, cranie, keogh etc. Thorn unlike every other manager since our relegation has tried to play football instead of continuously playing 4-4-2. If we get rid of thorn who else will come in, go on name a manager that will join a club that has owners with no ambition. Also this is a friendly no-one gives a sh*t, real Madrid lost 5-2 to benfica the other day but you don't see the fans calling for jose head. Get behind thorn and the team. One last thing, from reading this forum in recent weeks it is clear to me that many of you have no knowledge of football.

Well Thorn has no knowledge of football management but you seem easily fooled.

Last season he was like a 16 year old in a brothel for the very first time it has to be said.

What a delightful image to have as I retire to bad.

I will start to judge Thorn when we play league games. Friendlies don't really mean anything but they should be used to get our main players fit and gelling together.

Thorn doesn't really have any excuses to hide behind in League One...

He'll find some excuses no worries on that score....

Despite all the bickering of last season pretty much everyone now agrees we have the squad to compete in l1. All of those who like thorn (myself included) should be happy to concede he's not good enough if we aren't challenging for promotion. Dragging up last years debate is totally pointless

Thorn has always been too nice a guy for management, could easily be chief scout at a very big club as his eye for a player is second to none which is why I trust all his signings will be ok and we'll have back to back promotions challenging for the 2016/17 champions league.
Thank you and goodnight

Surely if he fails this year with the players it just proves the people who doubted Thorn's management skills last season correct...The same as if he does well it proves people who didn't rate him (including myself) wrong?

Guess so but it was very easy last year to suggest he was poor while we struggled. It was near impossible to make a valid judgement, Awful squad with the inevitable awful results. as others have pointed out people such as Colman achieved little more with a far greater budget. The thing that really gets me is half the people on here seem to revel in us losing just to demonstrate they were right...

I don't think anybody wants us to fail.

People still can't explain why Thorn is a good manager, they can only give excuses as to why he wasn't....
