Grendel would no doubt posit himself as 'anti-Thorn' and has said the very minimum he expects this season is a top 6 finish. There is a bit of optimism on here, but I know feck all about the division we are in and only about how disappointing much of my life as a Cov fan has been. I have no idea, but I wanted tonight's line up to be competitive. They have not sounded that and it doesn't fill me with optimism.

No one can compare individual players in teams so you look at other factors so you look at other statistics deployed as measurements last season.

Bookmaker odds - this season no bookmaker has us anything less than 6th favourite. Last season we were one of the relegation candidates and this was cited as evidence the squad was doomed regardless.

Wages and revenue - we will be one of the biggest supported teams this season and will have one of the biggest wage bills. Some say these are key factors in gauging a teams success and are a greater influence than a manager. So success should be achieved on this measure.

Also of course we have the man with an eye for a player. The master talent spotter. Given no one in this league has signed a player for a fee this is a level playing field and as we have a premier league scout at the helm I expect to see huge benefit from him being allowed to bring in his own players.

No excuses are there?

How long before people start demanding Andy Morrell is installed as CCFC manager?

I struggle to see where our goals are going to come from. Especially with 1 up front

Spain and Barcelona do ok with 0 up front!

1 up front, 2 up front, 3 at the back, 5 in midfield. None will work at the moment.

Hopefully it's just a case of the players still gelling...

I hope people will now realise that swapping championship proven players for for freebies and loans does not make our team squad stronger than last year !!!!!!!!!!

No people need to realise giving a hopeless inadequate like thorn a managers job will ultimately destroy us unless we act fast.

No, I suspect there won't be. I would imagine that if we are not up there and challenging around Christmas time that SISU will sack Thorn and look for a replacement. They may well find a more competent manager. I have never disputed that and never would - the accusations you level at 'the opposition' are not applicable to all. There are elements of what you say that I would query, but we have been over this ad infinitum and sw88 has been good enough to provide a thread with updates on the game, so I will not be seeking to go over old ground once again.

How long before people like you put the football club before a pathetic loser like thorn?

I have said myself that if we are not in the top 6 by Xmas then AT needs to go. To me we do have the players to be in the top 6. We do have the players good enough at this level. We now need to play our 1st team in the remaining friendlies. They need to get to know each other and the way they play.

The time for excuses has to stop. It needs to stop now.

Good Enough (Still) At this Level

Murphy
Clarke
Cameron
Wood
Hussey
Sheff
Thomas (although there's a debate to be had..)
Baker? (good at Stockport, but they were bottom, and he hasn't done owt here..)

Jury Still Out

Fleck (to quote a Scottish mate, "the standard up here is much, much worse than the English media implies!")
Kilbane (legs gone?)
Malaga
Edge
Brown
Ball
Cody
Jeffers
Deegan
Dunn
Bell
O'Donovan (confidence shot compared to his Hartlepool loan spell when he was on fire)
Pegg
Phillips
Garner
Roberts

It's easy to see why we can't score goals, we have 3 defensive ex-players as our coaches.

Oh well, at least our defence will be solid

Wonder if any reporter will dare to ask what he thinks after his comments after the Nuneaton game. Or will they just say what do you think and have the "wasn't about the result tonight", "90mins under their belt", "tried a few new things" response.

Very concerning. Thorn is going to be under a lot of pressure from fans. If we play like this in the season i'd give him 6 games.
