I got told to delete the app, by my employer, back when we were at the dizzy heights of cases/deaths, in case I got told to isolate. Because it would’ve meant they’d have had another driver less. I was pretty pissed off, still sort of am.

Whitty's comments last night don't sound like someone who agrees with the open everything up and see what happens strategy the government is taking.

Talked about 'scary numbers' of hospitalisations in the near future and hospitals being overwhelmed with covid patients. Said we need to 'take things incredibly slowly' which seems the opposite of what we're doing. Also said we're creating conditions where the virus could mutate into a vaccine resistant variant meaning we'd end up back in complete lockdown.

I saw the Dutch had to reverse course after just 2 weeks. Maybe Johnson is ‘doing a Rashford’ and I obviously don’t mean feeding the poor

What does he know chief. Bloody lockdown lover him you and me I mean. He’s probably making money out of all this and never been happier!!! Working at home and in public and volunteering on wards on his day off.
Like I’ve said before. He’s the expert let’s listen. He is cautious though so I’m happy it’s a reasonable argument to say yes but. However I need my leaders to say yes but the risk is low or yes but we will maintain these steps or yes but we’ve changed isolating rules as the risk is low or the number of days is less or yes but mutations won’t be bad there are millions and only 2 or 3 have made things worse

But no we gave fuckin freedom day crap spouted and then wow didn’t think we’d have loads isolating how stupid. Well no it’s stupid you not thinking about it

anyway as I said to Nick I’m out and proud

The pandemic has certainly shone some light on what workforces really think about their employees and how they treat them. Both good and bad.

Ps as you say schools/work places are running their own rules though. If I was gov/nhs I’d come out now and make it clear the apps advisory and suggest people take lateral flows if pinged, which is what they are going to do anyway from 16 Aug, at least for double jabbed. Surely it’s a greater risk everyone deleting app and not even knowing if they’ve been in the vicinity of someone with Covid ?! As I say gov/NHS intentional ambiguity to get more people to isolate thinking it mandatory could/will end up making things worse !

He’s an expert in science but has zero responsibility to consider other impacts on the 99% of the population who should not now suffer from the disease - governments have other considerations than just his standpoint

Certainly. You have to sign countless Health & Safety documents that back them up in accidents, injuries or whatever, so they can just put you at fault.

Different the other way around though. Their tact in a global pandemic has been shocking.

As all adults would have had the opportunity to be double vaccinated by 'freedom day' it appears that the government are saying if you catch it you must suffer the consequences. Personally, I think we have come far and need to kick the shit out of covid before letting everyone loose. Kids are now the super spreaders, but do not appear to come to much harm if they catch it.

It depends on the workplace.

Small businesses it's fairly understandable. If I start isolating for 10 days every couple of months I don't get paid. If I do that who does my work while I'm off?

As I said there's 2 different worlds. Some people are sat at home, maybe been on furlough or WFH for the past couple of years and will analyze graphs and worry about infection rates.

Others have had to work all the way through and business as usual as much as possible, else they don't eat.

Think those last two paragraphs are very fair. Though this is why people have been saying people should be paid to isolate.

If you are still banging on about 1% then I pity you. 14% have symptoms for 12 weeks or more
However your main point stands and I agree we need to manage it but gosh we really are risking all our progress

17th June all adults were offered a vaccine and as I understand it, you no longer have to wait 12 weeks for your second jab, it can be done in three

Yes, I agree. In that circumstance things change a bit and it is difficult to manage. I was more referring to medium to large businesses that have put greed and their own interests before their workforce.

That could be anything from forcing people to go into the office to try and keep a push on productivity, to not following their own rules which were implemented for safety, down to sacking people to cut costs, for which covid gets the blame even if it doesn't really have an effect on the business itself, or their future.

On the flip side, some companies have obviously been great and allowed their staff to be more flexible with how they work (which as a side point will make morale higher providing they aren't isolated too long).
