Still sounds like Tisdale to me, and he can work on a shoestring, too. I think SISU could find a bit of small change from the player sales to find the meagre compensation he'd cost. That or someone who has done well in Scotland? The players and the league might be shite, but the managers know their onions.

I'd say Gary Johnson, but the man simply only does good work in The West Country! I'm mates with a hardcore Yeovil fan, and he thought they were as good as down and Johnson would only make things worse when he went back, given his terrible time at Northampton. Yet within a few weeks he had them playing as good stuff as when he took them to the playoffs last time he was there. This is a team on a BSP budget, looking doomed to relegation, and suddenly they look a top L1 side! That's the sort of manager we need. I'd say John Still of Dagenham for the quite incredible job he's done in taking Dagenham into the league, even getting them into L1 for a season, but I can't see the guy re-locating from London. He's out scouting parks football every night, he wouldn't be able to do that up here, he wouldn't have the contacts.

So..our first two games are against two of the best managers in the country at getting the best out of rubbish players? It's going to be all about organisation, guts and who wants it the most. If we give as much as both those teams and are as well organised, of course, we should win 8 times out of 10... crap.

Apparently, the players we have brought in are all on less wages then the ones that have gone out and if they sack Thorn then they will have to spend money to sack him. He has spent i think 800,000 since taking charge on Cody McDonald and that money came from the sale of Ben Turner so let him spend some money on player instead of getting loans and freebies and then we can see how good a manager he is. I haven't heard a pundit say he should be sacked, all I have ever heard is that they feel sorry for Thorn and they know more then any of us the pressure of running a club with no cash.

I can't see Gary Johnson coming to Coventry as we have been linked with us many times and each time has said no. Plus Coventry is a team that is renown for sacking managers and look were all the managers have gone after Coventry, Boothroyd went to Northampton, Dowie is a commentator, OK Coleman is manager of Wales but I think he'll struggle there, Adams at Port Vale, Reid has failed since leaving Sunderland. We don't have a good record of successful managers who have left the club and gone to better clubs.

Yeovil now have a GK on a contract for the first time in 3 years. Seriously, we may have a much worse side than last season, but there are clubs in our division who would kill to be able to make signings that we have. Not saying it will be good enough, but it should be good enough for top6 based on budget at least.

And that will continue once we rid ourselves of the Curse of The Clueless One as he will be going nowhere else that is for sure.

For me, there was several times last season where another manager, can't say who, just a better manager. With a bit more tactical nous, would have seen us turn taking the lead into 3 points, and stopped us leaking late goals. Seeing out a draw instead of losing. Got us pushing for second goals rather than sitting on 1 nils. Having a plan B. I beleive we had the players capable of getting 10 more points at least, last season. I'm willing to give Thorn a chance with his own squad, albeit cheap and cobbled together. But I think we can do better.

Just because all of our recent appointments have been crap, doesn't mean we give up and assume they all will be. By this logic, we'd have stuck with Don Mackay and never won the cup, y'know? Norwich found Lambert, Burnley found Coyle, Millwall found Jackett, etc. Why can't we? Yeah, SISU are as likely to find a diamond in the rough as I am to find a vagina in the small of my back, but you never know!

Yes I agree, I fitted into that category until this summer. I felt in thorn we finally potentially had a very good young manager. I thought we could step away from the cycle of not giving managers enough time and try and get some stability that our club badly needs.
I was judging thorn by his first ten games. The transformation I saw and the players he had previously recommended.

Then sisu sold or released our best players. Which I understood, however what I struggled with was they were not replaced with freebies or cheaper options.

Hence our relegation and my dislike of SISU. Also my inability to judge AT on that season.

This season they may have learnt their lessons. We have nearly replaced what we have lost. We are two short.

My hate for sisu has gone down a notch and I am setting targets in my head for AT.

Agreed but I still think they've done it wrong: for me it would have been keep Gael and Keogh and add a few, not a lot, and the high turnover of players inevitably means we'll have signed some duffs. I'll let you guess who I think they'll be!

As it goes, I think the lack of familiarity for players is in any case going to prove as much of an obstacle as anything. But with the depth and relative quality to the rest of L1, I'm like you in that I'm judging the gaffer anew this season. If it doesn't work, we have to think about making a change. Charlton got through a few managers before they hit the mother-lode with Powell.

Other than that-well, of course, it might all be OK yet. At least Bruno scored tonight!

Now we are in division three it'll be no holds barred from the majority of us. We got used to relegation battles in the prem. then the championship, so by the time Thorn took the helm and ballsed it up we were used to it.
Well not now, we are certainly not used to division 3.

If all we did was pass then surely we should have tired teams down and then been able to find that killer pass. And because Sammy Clingan was always passing it sideways that makes Thorn a bad manager because Clingan couldn't play it forward. Look at the bench and what has he got on there to change a game. Every manager makes tactical mistake look at United against City at Old Trafford. Coventry haven't got the quality that most teams in the Championship have that why they are where they are.
