The league table would seem to suggest that’s the case

League table on its own doesn´t break down parts of our squad. Take the Gyokeres goals out and where would we be? Dismissive response.

I think Maatsen is an improvement on Sam.
JCS is an improvement on playing Hyam on the right.

Not having proper left sided cover for either is still a concern as it was last season.

Not having attacking midfield cover for O'Hare is aother concern which it looks like Robins tried to address but it didn't work out but I'd imagine budgetary constraints played a part in that and the Bright gamble fell at the first hurdle.

Keeper a massive upgrade, midfield definitely better though not really down to recruitment more experience in his league and strikeforce massively upgraded.

League position and results would suggest we've massively improved as well. But still work to do.

I agree on Moore but I´m afraid we will have to agree to disagree on JCS and Maatsen. I just don´t think they are upgrades on what we had.

Given that we have one left back in a week area, it is baffling that wasnt addressed. Equally we bring in right backs that dont play. Then look at O´Hare, who, whilst I love him, contributes nothing to goals and assists. Bright was signed which was a joke, and there is literally no one else. Jones who hasn´t played in years and Allen who blows hot and cold.

I find it hard to accept the correct areas on the pitch were addressed properly and improved.

You can’t pretend some goals don’t count to try and suit your argument. You’re going over the top. The League Table is the ultimate gauge of any team, if you’re trying to say it’s not then that’s something for you to address.

You're criticising recruitment, now you're saying where would we ever without our most expensive summer signing.

Last season we were desperate for Godden and Walker fit, now people are talking about moving them on, that's progress.

But how much do you think Bright was on. Budget is definitely a factor. Same as Reid from Scotland.
We have to take punts, and they often don't work.
I'm never going to argue our recruitment is perfect but we've gone from relegation contenders to top 6 in just over a season after almost a decade out of theChampionship, things are far from the doom and gloom some are making out.

I've said numerous times our strikers are now one of the strengths of the team, but that is is kind of my point. Attacking midfield and defence were piss poor, we haven't improved those areas.

People can scream league table all they want, but it is basic thinking really. I don't think the management will be sitting there thinking 'we are fourth so job done lads'. We have to keep improving, and I don't feel our back line and attacking midfield will hold up as the season goes on.

January will be interesting.

Ok then

Take mitrovic out of Fulham and where would they be?

Some people get really touchy when the recruitment is criticised and I really don't get it.

The answer is the same as our team without Gyökeres, but you are missing the point I am trying to make. Both teams were in completely different places last year. I have no idea where Fulham needed to strengthen.

I can only say there are areas of the pitch we needed to and didn't. I'm not saying the world should end, I'm just pointing it out.

I'm sure you wouldn't accept anyone dismissing the league table if we were in the relegation zone.
And I've not once said the recruitments done and don't expect the management think it is either. But things don't happen over one or two windows. It will be an ongoing process, especially if the current budget restrictions remain in place.

And I don't get your obsession in saying our window was bad, it obviously wasn't 10/10 but to dismiss its role in us being fourth in the league is a very strange hill to die on

I think it is a bit rich to say I am dying on a hill as you have consistently behaved as if it is 10/10 and dismiss any dissent against it.

I might take a more negative view towards it than some other people, granted, but I really cannot see how anyone can say our defence is currently stronger than last season, neither our attacking midfield. Two of the first areas we needed to sort out, and in my opinion, didn´t.

The squad is good enough for us to be fourth, any improvement LWB for example can’t be made until January doesn’t look like Reid is ready yet, unless we use Kane/Dabo there, not ideal. I’d agree we could strengthen at the back and midfield especially but again that’s for January if allowed that is. In all our recruitment it has to be taken under consideration the restraint put on it by our meagre budget.

No way are we getting another loan LWB in Jan, people need to accept Maatsen will be there for the season.

LWB recruitment pisses me off, coming up to two years it’s been a glaring hole in the squad and not even rumours about us being after someone. Same at the back TBH.

I think the defence has improved, but maybe not as much as it seemed earlier in the season. Attacking midfield is exactly the same. The key issue is the severe lack of depth in both areas - we’re paper thin.

Last season after 16 games we had the worse defence in the league. This season after 16 games it's 6th.

How can you say its not better? It's mind boggling?

Depth is hard to achieve mind you - who wants to come in and be reserve? The best you can hope for is the punts like Reid (currently failed, but he's young enough still to come good) or academy players to progress.

Bapaga is the AM depth next season?

Well we are 4th in the league with the 6th best defence so I think that means it's better than last year doenst it?

Let's see your working as to how it's weaker than last year

It’s a big problem with our model. Drawing on my decades as a Football Manager :p I always buy better than I have and first teamers naturally become backup. Here we have to sell and trim the wage bill or buy gambles.

We could really do with Hamer or someone going for a big fee in the summer (unlikely) and some cash to buy a couple of quality players in and drive the quality as a whole up.

See, my FM model was get the best youth in, give them experience as the strength in depth cover, to then take over the first team place after selling the incumbent for a huge fee.

Newport County ended up with £2.4bn in the bank, using that model!

Why would we be looking to replace Hamer and O’Hare? Neither are likely to be signed by a higher level club at the moment.
Probably not but they'd be entering the last year of their contracts, do we try to get them to sign new, risk losing them for nothing or move them on in the summer

In truth we are better as Gyokeres has scored a lot of goals which have won games and we have signed a good goalkeeper for this level.

We have been more offensive and have attacked teams but its fine margins.

The manager has spent money and wages on two forwards in Waghorn and Walker who are likely to be replacements but has little cover in other positions. I cannot fathom offering contract extensions to Godden and Hamer at this stage either.

Hamer I can understand but sections of our fans massively overrate him. Godden would only attract interest from a League 1 club, so it was a strange one.

Hi mate, I'm accepting apologies now. Amazon gift vouchers are fine.

Re-reading this thread has been so satisfying seeing some of the arrogant posters we have on here be shown up.

Behave better and be more respectful.
