We're in the middle of a global pandemic where millions of people have died. There's lots of bad news about mate.
I get it gets to you but you really shouldn't be on a thread like this if anyone posting anything 'negative' gets to you like it appears to.

Cautious optimism. No swinging wildly from reckless abandon to lockdown at a whim

Absolutely right to prioritise boosters and to wait for hospitalisation figures and deaths.

I’m also pretty pleased with what seems like a very sensible decision to reduce the length of isolation

Nhs Chris hopson interestingly was talking about hospitalisations not being the only thing to consider and moved on to staff absence and routine medical practice falling behind meaning restrictions should stay.

I do get that it’s important to limit isolation but did feel like moving goalposts

Final point is we still don’t have all the data, just encouraging data showing this variant seems milder than delta

Just if you get your information from tabloids you’d think there would be millions of deaths as they all run with the worst case scenario predictions.

This is the issue LG, but not just with the tabloids, a lot of the written and tv media. The modelling info has also been represented/misrepresented by government and scientific advisors to suit

Most people havent got the time or inclination to read through a 40 page doc so are reliant on the info being disseminated in an honest, transparent and digestible way...which hasn’t been the case throughout the pandemic. I personally think the models should have a one or two page summary of best, worst and most likely scenario of cases, hospital admissions and deaths inc outline assumptions and probability of outcomes. Hard to condense a lot of the info but probably doable. That would hopefully encourage a more honest appraisal by media....although maybe not !

Agree with all this Pete. Only query is whether it’s actually milder at all or it’s just our immunity (natural and/or vaccine) making it appear milder. This could be key, especially for unvaccinated. Let’s keep our collective fingers crossed

Yeah really good point. That will be borne out in the figures but only retrospectively. I think taking that risk with people that have been offered every opportunity to protect themselves with a vaccine seems less of eugenics than it would otherwise

What I mean and I don’t think is if it is as severe but only to those unvaccinated fellow brits then extra restrictions that affect livelihoods and mental health could be seen as unfair to the vast majority

As I say I feel awkward as I’ve got gout and have been told not to run but I do and will be treated if I cause myself problems

That’s not to say that it doesn’t already happen. If you smoke and don’t stop certain operations won’t be done. I’m not sure how I feel about that

They're not asked to do that though, they're asked to produce models based on scenarios. This then informs the government making the decision on what sort of restrictions it might put in place.

Even when my kids was at primary I was amazed at how many methods they were taught to come to the same answer. I was at primary late 70’s early 80’s and maths had moved on so much by the time I had kids in primary I was unable to help them with their homework.

What I meant is that, as well as being higher risk, the older age groups vaccination immunity was waning first so they needed the booster which might be reflected in lower hospitalisations currently. The younger age groups (maybe not as young as under 18s) will still need a booster for when their immunity wanes, whether that’s now or early next year.

I’ll rephrase what I said earlier, I think the recentish double jabbed ie under six months and boosters are maybe helping present Omicron as a milder variant
