Obesity is a ticking time bomb though and will wreak havoc soon, it will absolutely decimate the NHS. Its something we've known for years that obesity not only effects quality of life short term, but has a detrimental effect long term with things like diabetes and cancers.

Granted its not the best of comparisons, but we've had 2 years of covid now and luckily we have a vaccine for those who wish/need to take it. But let's not brush under the carpet the plethora of issues being overweight and obese bring.

You aren’t within the space of a few weeks going to suddenly have 40,000 in hospital as they’ve ate too many doughnuts

40,000 is about 2 weeks worth of hospital admissions where Obesity is involved, isn't it?

Seems like it's some sort of taboo to mention it.

Obviously don't lock obese people away, there should be more of a focus to get it sorted. That video is a good example.

No it’s not a YOY spike. It’s not a massive escalation and full up ICU units and ventilation

Quite happy to admit I fall into that category and as said before I haven’t known a time where I wasn’t overweight.

At the same time, I’ve never smoked and rarely drink. There is some irony in telling the ‘fatties’ to stay inside and then telling them also to exercise more.
Exercise for losing weight is a complete myth anyway. It works in the very short term and exercising does have many health benefits, but losing weight is not one of them. It is all about what you eat (and when you eat). If you're doing that right and still not losing weight then your body is missing something e.g, Iodine deficiency is a massive factor in the ability to lose weight and WHO estimates around 2 billion people are.

Yeah, the million admissions a year aren't clogging up the NHS.

That's even without GP appointments.

Let's witchhunt a 21 year old who hasn't had a jab though.

No its not.
Cases where obesity is a direct cause of admission is about 11k a year.
Cases where it may be a factor are far higher.

That's where the ambiguity comes in. If you're a type one diabetic who's obese and you end up in hospital Id imagine it could be either or a combination of both.

And how much you drink of course - this too is a major contributor in the UK.

The comparison is rubbish anyway and clearly it was never anywhere near 40,000

Which matches up with a COVID hospitalisation where that doesn't even have to be an actual factor?

The amount of hospital admissions for alcohol again in the uk isnt massive and it’s a totally unrelated issue to vaccines

As long as Carol, 52, morbidly obese who drinks and smokes all day has been jabbed though.

Scrap that, let's go shout at people statistically much, much less likely to be hospitalised by COVID even though they aren't jabbed.

Well it’s not 40,000 every two weeks is it and it’s rubbish to compare. The comparison would be if people who are in hospital through their own “fault” did not take a vaccine beforehand that would resolve their condition

It's over a million a year.

I thought it was about protecting the NHS? Guess it only matters when it's COVID though and now Brexit is quietened down there needs to be a divide about something.

Eclairs and cheesecake don't cause fatness, it's all about the 5g. That 5g makes celery toxic too, and it's pretty significant how I saw a bloke on a bus once eating a carrot, and he then ballooned to 25 stone.

I'm going to go around ramming custard tarts down strangers' throats the next time I'm on a train, that'll show 'em.

Well not really with the stats, if they go in for something completely different and have no symptoms.

Same with people in care homes I guess. If aunt Doris wasn’t in that home she’d never have Covid so it doesn’t count

Oh if you want the stats like for like then it would be much more than a million.

I was just quoting where Obesity is part of the issue, a COVID hospitalisation isn't always where COVID is part of the issue.

To make it even, could do anybody admitted to hospital who is obese regardless of if it's related to their illness?

Obsessed with trains still?

Surely if triple jabbed and wearing a mask there's no worry about who else is on the train as you are fully protected anyway?

People die anyway Grendel, people die anyway.

We should stop hospitals sending people who are I’ll or injured from going to hospital

- went one mile over the speed limit Mr Smith oh your leg must heal itself
- bowel cancer? Oh Mrs Jones you’ve ate above the recommended amount of red meat off you go
- I’m sorry Martin your concussion was caused by choosing to play rugby bye now

It's funny really, you don't even realise the irony.

As I said, people are only bothered when it's COVID and they can be either side of a divide to rant about.

It is quite funny when you have morbidly obese people (not on about here as we have no idea who is and who isn't) preaching about others being selfish.

Can’t wait for the 2024 fat bloke lockdown, with Earlsdon furiously copy and pasting calorie-count numbers he saw on Parler, and Nick rambling about people who died WITH obesity, not FROM obesity as he’s bundled into an unmarked van by the paramilitary Fat Squad for briefly overshooting his BMI.

They are bothered about Covid as there’s as instant cure which wipes out 95% of the condition needing hospitalisation - so yes if morbidly obese people had a pill that prevents relate illnesses and 95% of them being hospitalised id moan at them as well
