I think he's trying to get himself sold

Well yea but defensively him playing in the centre is detrimental to the team , as fadz is better there .. so it only makes sense the club are putting him on show to flog him

12 players being shown the door? We’d have about 5 left!

We are a bit thread bare I admit, but we have players now that are not getting near the 1st team and will never get there. Hilsner, Pask, De Costa, Finnegan, McGrath, Ngandu and Evans Harriot are out of contract or been told to find other clubs.

Add Drysdale & Walker who I don't see a future with us, then decisions on Mcfazden, Shipley, Jones & Eccles who I only see 2 getting extensions. That's 11 and we don't know if MR can see a pathway for J Burroughs, Cashman, Bapaga or Tavares. So 12 could be realistic although difficult to do. We have a nucleus of about 14/15 who id say MR is thinking can progress with a few quality additions, but it's a big summer ahead.

To be fair I think it was a case of him keeping his place after a decent enough game v Southampton. Didn't do much wrong against Blackpool so kept his place again.

Or maybe Fadz hasn't been 100%?

I fully expect Fadz will be back in the team tomorrow night though.

Or we’re not renewing Fadz’s contract and are looking at options before the summer.

We will be looking for options in the summer ofcourse , but that's logically not why Rose is playing given these rumours

Just thinking about Barnsley with the upcoming match, and their likely relegation, it would be great if we could look at Michal Helik as a replacement for McFadzean. They often play a similar system at the back too.

Josh Bowler at Blackpool is 22 and into his last year this summer. Looked very classy when we played them recently.

I dont disagree with it being a long shot but if we want to kick on this is the profile of player we need to be interested in.

blackpool have a year extension option clause I think

They do which would perhaps push the price up outside of what we are able to spend. I was reading the Telegraphs article about players who are going to be out of contract or have 1 year options and his name jumped of the page vs the rest.

Whilst one of the above will more than likely go, sadly I still think we'll be the polar opposite of 'flush'.

In all seriousness if we’re going to continue the mode at the level we should be able to spend £2-3m on exceptional players. Not convinced Bowler is worth that, when it’s more than the likes of Wilson, McCallum and Maddison went for at younger ages, but I’d hope we could see the value in dropping say £2-3m on Twine or similar.

Yep, my logic would be (plucking figures out the air) £5mil for O'Hare, say, with £2mil for his replacement, £1.5mil, say, allocated to getting a couple of Sheafs elsewhere in the team, and £1.5mil going towards keeping us in existence.

I'd have to disagree. If he continues his run of form until the end of the season I think he's easily worth £2-3m, probably more. 22 years old and he's already shown he has bags of ability at this level. His end product is starting to click as well.

But yes if we are to compete in the seasons ahead I'd like us to invest further into bringing in the best young talent from L1/L2. That's probably idealistic rather than realistic though.

That’s not the market we’re in or can compete in, we’re trying to find undervalued talent so will be someone from abroad or the lower leagues.
Was thinking about our (lack of) activity in buying from the lower leagues.

Since promotion, the English league players we have purchased have tended to be from the championship or Prem freebies/loans.

The lower league signings have tended to be more hope (Drysdale, Tavares, Harriott) than expectation.

The waters that we fish in seem to be very narrow.

The only 3 that are out of contract in the Championship who would interest me (and are realistic) are Marlon Pack, Will Vaulks and Yan Dhanda.

tbf in the leagues below, who did we sign who was up and coming from a lower level? Marosi and Allen had experience at the level we were at, and above, as did Kelly when we signed him; McNulty had experience higher up the food chain; Hyam came from a club above us in the food chain. I guess you could make a case for Rose, but then we've tried that avenue since with Reid with limited success. The likes of McCallum were effectively youth team signings who ended up fast tracked due to promise, and the fact it was probably easier to do that at a lower level, too.

I guess there was Biamou...

Ah thought he was a bit older. It was more the fact that he’s already done it at the level that made me think he’s outside the model.

Players like him won't be outside of the model though.

If we are to succeed moving forward in the transfer market we're probably better diverting our attention to targeting unwanted gems from PL clubs. E.g. in the Gyokeres, Sheaf and Bowler mould.

Far more cost/time-effective than trying to unsuccessfully outbid half the Championship for scarlets in L1/L2 - even though in an ideal world I think we should be competing in those markets as well.

Must admit I don't really notice opposition players that much, I just concentrate on what we are doing. However Bowler stood out in both games to me. Looks a real prospect.
