He’s spent the past seven years trying to guard against this scenario. He’s already summoned a gang of oligarchs to the Kremlin this afternoon - presumably you think it was just for their regularly scheduled book club.

Are you standing by your masterplan to just let Putin have his way with Ukraine, and then ban them from NATO as a consolation prize if he fails? Such a brave stance!

The point of a certain poster banging on about Corbyn is to try to distract from the mess the Government's made, and the pit of corruption they find themselves in. It's designed to deflect from an uncomfortable truth regarding undue Russian influence on our ruling party.

It’s to distract away from the fact that Johnson hasn’t got the balls to admit that him and his cronies have been happy to take the Russian rouble from Putin and his associates and don’t want to give it up.

The other point is that even if Putin doesn't care a jot for the Russian economy, many of those around him will. Sooner or later, that's going to get uncomfortable.

He might be able to take Ukraine, but holding on to it without huge casualties and vast costs doesn't seem at all likely to me.

I can't see how this ends well for him or Russia in the long term, but regardless right now there are 44m Europeans in desperate need of our support.

Already divisions on sanctions. Germany in particular not keen on removing Russia from the SWIFT system ( basically because of how much trade there is between the 2 countries - seemingly mainly energy and automative).
